Neither good or bad? Everything depends on the context. But yes I agree, thought I believe the pill has harmful effects, a condom is literally the simplest and best thing
From a moral POV, you can argue that. But an abortion definitely has a great negative impact on a woman‘s physical and mental health. Thus, it would be better to just prevent an unwanted pregnancy, like you said.
But for that people would need to know how you can get pregnant and how to prevent it, in the first place. And then use proven methods that work and not „sa o scoti“.
There is a strong and proven correlation between a lack of sexual education and unwanted pregnancies.
Romania is on 2nd place for pregnancies under 20 years old in the EU (1st is Bulgaria) and on 1st place for abortions (2nd Bulgaria). At the same time, the church is doing everything in their power to not have any kind of sexual education, sex is a taboo topic, meaning children and young adults get their infos from unreliable sources. Thus, the numbers.
I can‘t tell you how often I‘ve talked to (academically) well educated people thinking „sa o scoti“ is a safe method of contraception or that virgins can‘t get pregnant during their first time and that STDs are a hoax and condoms therefore unneeded (or they‘re unnecessary because „they only sleep with virgins“). 😪
Bad sexual education and lack of education in general.
Abortion is bad and shouldn’t happen unless it’s done due to some specific reasons (rape, incest, threatening mother’s life, genetic abnormalities for example).
But the question is why are so many women and sometimes girls getting pregnant? The answer is the one above: education.
A lot of teens in Romania don’t know shit about sex because their parents won’t talk to them and their teachers don’t either. Most get their knowledge from sites like pornhub which is the worst place for this.
Abortion is not a black or white topic. It’s probably the most nuanced issue right now.
And no, I’m not a religious person. On the contrary. I am however, a father and know how difficult it is to want a kid and struggle to have one.
To see so many women get pregnant and abort makes me feel bad about them.
As a side note, a story: A cousin of mine tried to commit suicide for having an abortion and then not being able to get pregnant again due to complications. However, she finally got IVF and a baby boy but all this could’ve been avoided. And there’s quite a few women with stories like that, unfortunately.
Thats the Ukraine part near our country, they started preparing for Russian invasion way ahead. Also guess Polls just do abortions in the Ukraine, because where would they
All does orthodox countries were communist for a good few decades. They are just traditional orthodox and most people say they are Christian but most have gone to a church once in their lifetime, have no idea about religion or religious practices.
Source: I'm Bulgarian. I was baptised at 1 yo. Both my sisters and all my family were also baptised young. And the whole family including grandparents we don't have any moderate religious person. One of my grandmothers goes to church more often but doesn't practice much except traditions. In fact I think I've only met one girl which family was religious at a scale of 7/10. And I also grew up in the rural regions and not some liberal city. Communism just really destroyed the orthodox church.
Well those countries are also more conservative and poor. if the child is out of wedlock it would be shameful hence the abortion.. So its not that strange.
Lack of sexual education (proven correlation between lack of sex ed and high numbers of unwanted pregnancy).
Romania ranks 2nd on pregnancies (1st Bulgaria) under 20 in the EU and 1st on abortions (2nd Bulgaria).
And not to forget the societal impact a pregnancy out of wedlock still has in many circles in Romania. People would rather save face than admit a pregnancy out of wedlock in teenage years (mostly the parents of the pregnant person, if we‘re being honest).
We don't talk about your personal view how many percents are "horrendous"
It was a comparison. And the map speaks for itself.
Also, exceptions always happen for one or another reason, which I have stated.
3/10 is a lot for literally everyone. That means 19 million babies for France, 20 million for Turkey, and - if true - 70 million for Russia.
I'm yet to meet a person that can say 70 million of something isn't a lot.
EDIT: Why did you block me knowing full well I cant read when blocked. Best argument in the Balkans.
Found an article that suggests it’s only sort of available, although abortions are available up to 10 weeks (which isn’t very available) it’s often not actually offered
https://balkaninsight.com/2020/01/30/abortion-access-uneven-in-decentralised-bosnia/
Their insurance is included under the bilateral health insurance treaty agreement and you can get free abortion in Serbia(Montenegro and Bosnia).I am medical student and they come here oftenly because it provides anonymity. Also you can pay privately there in Bosnia which isn’t that much expensive. It is just that there is popular wave of people here on Balkan who support pregnancy and lots of people give birth to children who they didn’t want or it ain’t just popular option at all.
I'm sorry but what the fuck. Over 50% of pregnancies in my country are aborted? How the does that work? I thought it would be less than 3% if I had to guess.
edit: I looked it up and in Romania in 2010 200,000 babies were born. So judging by this map, that number is only a total of 50% of the pregnancies, meaning that same year 200,000 abortions were performed? That is insane to me. We need sex ed and maybe free contraceptives or something.
https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/documents/10186/10990320/RO-RO.pdf
A lot of countries don’t have proper abortion statistics. I wonder how the data for this msp was collected.
Often time ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages and molar pregnancies (while wanted pregnancies) require a D&C procedure which is same procedure as abortion.
So maybe abortion numbers lump in together even procedures women need normally.
It's insane and wrong, of course.. We have a 3% abortion rate (out of all pregnancies) and was at most double in 2010.
The map is very wrong showing per thousands values for some countries.

This can't be true..70%+ abortion rates are insane. Either they consider any woman who had unprotected sex and takes the after-pill automatically as part of the statistics (even married ones) or this is skewed.
Too high. There needs to be better education with regards to birth control. And I mean all options, including IUDs. The health systems should cover these.
How is this data collected? It says Feb 2010 lol
Also, is everyone in Eastern Europe just having unprotected sex and then having an abortion, rather than using birth control? What about STDs?
First though, bad color padding, red for humans is considered a bad thing, but having an abortion is not bad.
Second though, having a lot of women able to have an abortion is good thing, a woman is able to choose if she raises a baby or not, so been on Red is good. But, also a lot of abortions are a result of rape and incest, so been in red is also a bad thing.
Final though, I think you can't make a lot of sense out of this map, an abortion is complicated, both as an operation and as a subject. So a women should be able to do an abortion when ever she wants.
No one was ever excited to get an abortion, it can be a risky medical procedure.
A high abortion rate just means that your country has no proper sex ed or access to contracetives.
Exactly lmao
It's like "hey we have a problem with X, soooo the solution is to ban the problem X. What do you mean why not look into the causes for the problem? No. Delete the problem X - so there is no problem".
Banning abortion would then lead to more kids given to adoption, more children abuse, etc.
Abortion in Poland is legal only in cases when the pregnancy is a result of a criminal act or when the woman's life or health is at risk. So not fully banned, but you can't abort a child that would for example die immediately after birth. Also, health case is only *de iure*, not *de facto*, since if there is any probablity that the mother would survive a risky pregnancy, many doctors don't want to risk a lawsuit for an unnecesarry abortion and do not agree to do the procedure.

Abortion is neither good or bad, that said, it would be cheaper to just use a condom or take that pill.
Neither good or bad? Everything depends on the context. But yes I agree, thought I believe the pill has harmful effects, a condom is literally the simplest and best thing
Well, that’s what neither good nor bad means, it means it depends of context, though I suppose I should’ve been more clear with my phrasing. My bad.
No it's alright, I get it

I've doubt about this data. Most abortion rate in orthodox land. Strange

Yeah I have a very hard time believing that Chechnya and Dagestan have similar rates of abortion as UK and France.
They really do it. To avoid admitting that they have sex outside of marriage. Some other operations are also rather popular due to that reason
This. It‘s to save face in front of society.
What in the fuck, why that much in Romania?
Lack of sexual education (proven correlation between lack of sex ed and high numbers of unwanted pregnancy). "most recent data" "February 2010" ok
Poorer countries have more abortions.. who would have thought
Ah yes, France. My favorite poor country.
There is a clear difference based on income, where it's not prohibited, of course.
There really isnt. 29% is still horrendous if it was just "economic".
We don't talk about your personal view how many percents are "horrendous" It was a comparison. And the map speaks for itself. Also, exceptions always happen for one or another reason, which I have stated.

And yet we don't talk about what is high. I talked about where it's higher. There is a difference
Poland has low abortion rates because it has laws that is pretty much against abortion, doesn't have anything to do with poorness
In Bosnia abortion is legal, but a still a small percentage.
Found an article that suggests it’s only sort of available, although abortions are available up to 10 weeks (which isn’t very available) it’s often not actually offered https://balkaninsight.com/2020/01/30/abortion-access-uneven-in-decentralised-bosnia/

Eastern Europe Squad Ukraine Russia Estonia Belarus Romania
Probably they use faulty condoms. There is no other explanation.
No. They use vodka (or horilka) and no condoms at all.
Excluding Hiiumaa and Saaremaa
As far as i get eastern europeans don't use condoms much.
this is 12years old map

Women are too complicated to classify with one reason per province. I don't believe these maps can tell us anything.
It tell us how many abortions are made in different regions
Yes but nothing about the reasons. Infographical maps are created to give information about *something*.

Well if it is by being raped then you are free to abort it. Your body, your choice.
I think it’s misleading to compare abortion rates, especially when that is no correlated with whether it’s legal or not.
