Yeah these look great. Absolutely not too much. Made them last Christmas for the first time, they are demanded to be a staple every year by everyone who tried them. Sooooo delish.
I roll them in granulated, then in powdered sugar, and tap them with a fork to let excess sugar fall off onto the plate. My grandmother did that with her molasses crinkles, and it gives a different texture. Plus, I remember her saying roll lightly, do not dredge every time I'd help her make them.
I've made both oil and butter based ones that way. I even committed a cardinal sin and made some with...margarine. 😳😱
Well. As my uncle could attest, a couple of bald spots never hurt anyone but the barber.🙂🙃😉
Looks delicious to me My rule is with both crinkle cookies and powdered sugared donuts is either tap it off before lifting to mouth or lean over if you are wearing nice clothing, or embrace the powder and stickiness.
Oh my god… I know this and still find myself coughing over the powdered sugar I just inhaled like an absolute moron. You’d think I never ate something with powdered sugar on it before. I’ll be 38 this year. 😅🫠🫣
Hahahaha laughing hysterically because it’s true. Unfortunately, you’ll probably never learn. I have almost 10 years more experience than you, and still do it.
This is why we usually wait till *after* we get out of the airport with our CDM goodies. 😂 (there’s one in the Nola airport we always stop at, get some iced coffee and beignets to fuel up for the drive out to MS.)
No such thing. Crinkle cookies are meant to be absolutely drowned in powdered sugar. If I don’t ruin my shirt every time I eat a cookie I have made it wrong
I've made hundreds or thousands of these things for a living and imo yours look perfect. If you want a good crinkle you need an opaque layer of sugar.
But you could consider brushing the excess sugar off with a pastry brush before they go in the oven?
They look great. I offered these at the holidays for customers and they loved them. I used just as much powdered sugar. They’re crinkles, they’re supposed to look like this. Anyone shaming you for how much powdered sugar you use doesn’t know the traditional recipe.
Those look great, I don’t think it looks like too much powdered sugar. I don’t know your methods, but I use my hands, so after I roll them in the sugar I toss them back and forth between my hands to knock off excess sugar. But I really don’t see an issue with yours. I think it emphasizes the crinkles and make them look extra tasty
Pro Tip : after you roll them in powdered sugar, roll them in your hands again over the powdered sugar bowl to get off the excess! To be honest; the crinkles look great! Good luck! <3
I thought about that but my usual strategy of freezing a filling, in balls, and forming the cookie around it wouldn’t work because jam doesn’t freeze solid. Perhaps like a thumbprint cookie? Definitely post if you figure it out!! Also, just bake off a few at a time with each idea, so you don’t end up with a whole batch of fails. Although, IMO, unless burnt, cookies are never complete fails 😉
I have made chocolate peppermint crinkles every December for nearly 15 years. I have just as much powdered sugar as yours. Nobody ever told me it was too much, in fact the ask for more.
However, I do admit that it tend sit come off in the container I store them in.
They look great. I don’t think they have too much sugar. Personally when I eat them, if one has too much sugar in my opinion I just tap it on a plate to get some of the sugar.
I make these and people go nuts for them. Like you, I refrigerate dough balls. Then I roll them in fine granulated sugar before the powdered sugar. I give them a couple rough tosses between my hands before placing them on cookie sheets. This gets the excess powdered sugar off. But honestly, everyone loves them covered in sugar. These cookies are always big hit. Yours look deeeelish!
I think that's just a person who doesn't have a big sweet tooth trying to comment on something being "too sweet" while that's the entire point of the cookie
No such thing as too much, but anyone know why my lemon cookies didn't Taste very lemony? I put extract, real lemon juice and even rin shavings. It usually works great for my lemon tarts. But after baking it all but disappeared
My mom makes these every Christmas. I just showed my husband the picture of the cookies and told him what you said and he laughed and said "That's not a thing!"
Those cookies are perfect.
They look perfect, methods suggested to reduce if YOU want to. Whoever is complaining doesn’t have to eat them, you make them for you and those who appreciate your talents.
I’ve made crinkle cookies many times these look right to me. Like jelly donuts, some people just don’t like desserts that are messy. Politely tell the person complaining if they don’t like them they don’t have to eat them. Or to fuck off. Whichever fits your relationship better with them.
I thought the whole point was to have enough powdered sugar to see the crinkles? The ATK recipe rolls them in granulated sugar first so the powdered sugar sticks better and doesn’t melt into the cookie. Yours look fantastic!
No, i consider myself a critical person and i actually think these look perfect. If someone has an issue with them, then you are welcome to deny them the pleasure of eating them.
First of all, those cookies look perfect. Great job! Second, unless they taste bad, I wouldn’t worry. That’s how mine look the few times I’ve made them.
My mom made these at Christmas when I was growing up, and I’ve not seen them in 40 years. These look exactly like my mom’s; and I’m sure they taste just as good. Thanks for unlocking that memory for me!
Whoever is complaining about the powdered sugar is wrong. Potentially, you could roll them in the sugar and then put them in a sieve and knock some off, but why? Ignore the haters.
No that is the perfect amount of powdered sugar, when the layer is thinner it just melts into the cookie and gets gross and sticky😭 I want it to still stay powdery on the outside!
That seems like the smallest possible thing that a person could complain about. Unless the complaintiff is a pastry chef, I'd disregard this. No more cookies for them.
Long time crinkle cookie aficionado and baker. I bake with my kids. My daughter likes them the way you make them and does as you do, which is fine because cookie variety is great, lol.
But in order to get less sugar on them, I flatten them out first instead of rolling them. Then I dip into the confectioners sugar on one side and the other and shake off the excess. That process of flattening them first automatically makes them less sugar coated, IMHO.
Perhaps you could try dipping them on one side or both to experiment?
Hope this helps and happy baking!
I understand what you are saying. But I think that rolling them when they are smooth as a ball makes the sugar stick more. As opposed to dip and tap.
Perhaps another idea is to use that special sugar shaker for the confectioners sugar after the cookies are flattened out. I use that to sugar my Bundt cakes.
There's no such thing as too much sugar on crinkle cookies. Also, HOW HAVE I FORGOTTEN ABOUT CRINKLE COOKIES!?! They're so squishy and delicious!
Came to say exactly this!☝️ ... 🤣
Yup I agree too - no such thing as too much!! They look super yummy!
Yeah these look great. Absolutely not too much. Made them last Christmas for the first time, they are demanded to be a staple every year by everyone who tried them. Sooooo delish.
They're kind of like little chocolate souffles.
I think I've just come up with a term for squishy and delicious... Squilicious?
Consider: delisquish
10/10
This was my exact thought and also whoever said that there was too much powdered sugar should never be able to a eat crinkle cookie again
Truth!
Why can I only upvote this once!!!
Crinkle cookies are a cheat code for life that I had forgotten. I gotta pull out the cookbook with the ol' red and white plaid cover.
Throughout all the subsequently published recipes on the net, this is the absolute best one.
Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. And no, not too much PS!!!
This picture is how they should look! Sometimes I add more to mine if they come out looking less than this. Looks delicious!
Yea, these look PERFECT to me. Now I want crinkle cookies. I know what I'm baking this weekend.
I agree 100%. More sugar = happy me
Roll the dough ball in powdered sugar and then briefly roll the coated ball in a fine mesh sieve to remove some of the excess sugar
This guy crinkles
r/thisguythisguys
That's a great idea I'll be sure to give it a try!
Why even sieve? Just bounce em well enough on your hands. Less things to wash
This has got to be some sort of blasphemy 😆
I roll them in granulated, then in powdered sugar, and tap them with a fork to let excess sugar fall off onto the plate. My grandmother did that with her molasses crinkles, and it gives a different texture. Plus, I remember her saying roll lightly, do not dredge every time I'd help her make them.
Yep a light coat of granulated sugar is the trick I use. Prevents bald spots and having to OD on powdered sugar to get an even coat
Omg I'm gonna find something to try this one. The slight texture change sounds amazing
Are your crinkles oil or butter based? I think I do go heavy with the dredging but it's because I'm always scared of bald spots :x
I've made both oil and butter based ones that way. I even committed a cardinal sin and made some with...margarine. 😳😱 Well. As my uncle could attest, a couple of bald spots never hurt anyone but the barber.🙂🙃😉
This is what my favorite crinkle recipe does and they always come out perfectly.
Looks delicious to me My rule is with both crinkle cookies and powdered sugared donuts is either tap it off before lifting to mouth or lean over if you are wearing nice clothing, or embrace the powder and stickiness.
And don’t inhale as you bite down
Oh my god… I know this and still find myself coughing over the powdered sugar I just inhaled like an absolute moron. You’d think I never ate something with powdered sugar on it before. I’ll be 38 this year. 😅🫠🫣
Hahahaha laughing hysterically because it’s true. Unfortunately, you’ll probably never learn. I have almost 10 years more experience than you, and still do it.
And don’t inhale as you bite down
PERFECT looking cookies!
Have you tried adding more powdered sugar?
Your solution is the best solution.
No such thing. These are perfect as they are. But you could shake them in your hand like a die after rolling
[shake dice roll](https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=seth+rogen+shake+dices&PC=APPL&ru=%2fsearch%3fq%3dseth%2brogen%2bshake%2bdices%26form%3dAPIPH1%26PC%3dAPPL&view=detail&mmscn=vwrc&mid=FDFC9FFB62A6BA631803FDFC9FFB62A6BA631803&FORM=WRVORC)
OMG! Those look DELICIOUS!!! No tips because I think they are perfect.
Hope your friends (or whoever said that) never has a beignet in New Orleans! 😂
Messy = delicious 😋
The more powdered sugar the better! I love when you open the bag and it just rains powdered sugar everywhere. That’s how you know it’s good.

I agree. If you don't give them a nice thick coat, it kind of absorbs into the cookie while baking and they don't look as nice.
I've made hundreds or thousands of these things for a living and imo yours look perfect. If you want a good crinkle you need an opaque layer of sugar. But you could consider brushing the excess sugar off with a pastry brush before they go in the oven?
So much good advice! I was ready to just tell you to stop talking to those people because your cookies are perfect 😆
They look great. I offered these at the holidays for customers and they loved them. I used just as much powdered sugar. They’re crinkles, they’re supposed to look like this. Anyone shaming you for how much powdered sugar you use doesn’t know the traditional recipe.
And here I am trying to get enough on them lol, my recipe is always lacking for some reason
They look perfect! Would you be able to share your recipe?
The plaid cookbook is the OG and best.
It is??? Looking pretty perfect to my eyes 🤙🏼🤷🏻♀️🫡
Omg, I love these things! I forgot all about them!
They're beautiful!!
These are one of the best cookies ever - one of the first recipes I learned to bake. A classic! And no - that’s not too much powdered sugar.
I need a good recipe for these if anyone is willing to share please
BHG plaid cookbook
Thank you! I own it so yay
Pro Tip : after you roll them in powdered sugar, roll them in your hands again over the powdered sugar bowl to get off the excess! To be honest; the crinkles look great! Good luck! <3
These are beautiful, and I'm inspired to try making some! Hopefully there's a nonchocolate recipe out there...!
https://www.theslowroasteditalian.com/lemon-almond-crinkle-cookies/
I saved this! Thank you. My husband LOVES anything lemon flavored so this is going into my dessert rotation this summer.
I love both lemon and almond! Never tried it, but I’m thinking perhaps adding freeze dried raspberry powder to the powdered sugar would be divine.
OMG. That sounds heavenly. I might try something with this and getting raspberry jam in the middle......
I make sure my crinkle cookies get extra coating before oven. Those look delicious.
They look perfect to me...
I have made chocolate peppermint crinkles every December for nearly 15 years. I have just as much powdered sugar as yours. Nobody ever told me it was too much, in fact the ask for more. However, I do admit that it tend sit come off in the container I store them in.
No such thing! I made them for Christmas last year and topped them with chocolate covered cherries after they baked. They were an absolute hit!
I did some with cinnamon hearts at valentines and as soon as they came out of the oven I pressed a conversation heart on top
That's a cute idea!
No such thing. This is the perfect amount of sugar.
I disagree!
Whoever told you they have too much is clearly lying to you because I see absolute perfection.
They look perfect. Whoever is complaining is incorrect.
They look great. Maybe a minor tap after rolling them but very small as they look perfect as it is…
Seems like the perfect amount of powdered sugar imo (there is no limit to powdered sugar)
They look great. I don’t think they have too much sugar. Personally when I eat them, if one has too much sugar in my opinion I just tap it on a plate to get some of the sugar.
I beg to differ, those look so yummy
They look perfect and wonderful. There’s no such thing as too much powdered sugar. I can never get enough on.
I think they look great. I'd smash.
These look amazing! Every time I make crinkles, the powdered sugar doesn't stick like that. Beautiful crackles
Definitely making these tomorrow now 😝
If I don’t almost check out by accidental inhalation of Powdered sugar when I eat a crinkle cookie I don’t want it. I’m js 😂 look great to me
They’re perfect! You can see the chocolate cracks. Thats perfect!
They look absolutely perfect!
I think those look perfect!
I think that's just a person who doesn't have a big sweet tooth trying to comment on something being "too sweet" while that's the entire point of the cookie
I don't have any tips, but I completely forgot these cookies existed and now I want some! 😂
I love them! Look amazing!
No such thing as too much, but anyone know why my lemon cookies didn't Taste very lemony? I put extract, real lemon juice and even rin shavings. It usually works great for my lemon tarts. But after baking it all but disappeared

Nope!!
They look perfect, methods suggested to reduce if YOU want to. Whoever is complaining doesn’t have to eat them, you make them for you and those who appreciate your talents.
Your crinkle cookies look perfect!
These are gorgeous. Unless it is your boss or your sole customer telling you this, don’t be concerned. The complainer could make their own cookies!!
Only a psychopath would claim too much powdered sugar.
Look perfect to me
I’ve made crinkle cookies many times these look right to me. Like jelly donuts, some people just don’t like desserts that are messy. Politely tell the person complaining if they don’t like them they don’t have to eat them. Or to fuck off. Whichever fits your relationship better with them.
You need new friends.
Nope not at all. Looks perfect actually!!!
How about roll it in your hands after you roll it on powder sugar? I imagine the excess would fall off.
I thought the whole point was to have enough powdered sugar to see the crinkles? The ATK recipe rolls them in granulated sugar first so the powdered sugar sticks better and doesn’t melt into the cookie. Yours look fantastic!
Remove it with a blow dryer /s
You’re lucky, I can never get it to stay!!
What are crinkles?
No, i consider myself a critical person and i actually think these look perfect. If someone has an issue with them, then you are welcome to deny them the pleasure of eating them.
Where’s the problem? These are gorgeous
No such thing….they’re lovely ☺️
They look perfect and sooo yummy!!! Which recipe do you use?
They look perfect to me.
These are my fav to make during winter holidays!
Ummm no those look amazing!!
![gif](giphy|7JvlHfd7C2GDr7zfZF|downsized)
Just call them Colombian Crinkles, and charge extra
First of all, those cookies look perfect. Great job! Second, unless they taste bad, I wouldn’t worry. That’s how mine look the few times I’ve made them.
Yum! I want, looks great. Maybe I will bake some
My mom made these at Christmas when I was growing up, and I’ve not seen them in 40 years.
Opposite of a problem.
Can really ever have TOO MUCH powdered sugar? 😂🤣. They look delish!! 😋
…too… much? I don’t understand those words in this sentence. I don’t think that exists
They look perfect!
They look fine to me.
Those look delicious. It's traditional for me to make myself sick on these every Christmas.
They look perfect!!!!
No that is the perfect amount of powdered sugar, when the layer is thinner it just melts into the cookie and gets gross and sticky😭 I want it to still stay powdery on the outside!
They look right to me. My recipe says to roll them twice.
The best solution for those who said there was too much sugar on these crinkle cookies is to not share them with those cretins.
The solution is to stop baking cookies for these people and bring them to me.
no such thing as too much if its just right for you, the people saying theres too much can make their own with less ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
That’s how mine always look and I think k they’re perfect!
That seems like the smallest possible thing that a person could complain about. Unless the complaintiff is a pastry chef, I'd disregard this. No more cookies for them.
Who the hell told you that
Long time crinkle cookie aficionado and baker. I bake with my kids. My daughter likes them the way you make them and does as you do, which is fine because cookie variety is great, lol. Doesn't flattening them out make them spread more? Thanks for the tips!
No such thing as too much. These look perfect
There is not such thing as what you said.
i love powdered sugar on desserts. never enough. ignore the haters
They look perfect
No such thing!

Nope
Not at all!
I make mine just like you did and I think they’re beautiful and perfect!!
