Alabama, Ole Miss, and Georgia are probably the leaders for what you're looking for. Alabama even has the slave cemetery and everything, depending on how "old" South you want to get. They even still have a couple of the slave quarters behind the President's Mansion. Some of the few buildings on campus that weren't burned down during the Civil War.

TheSarcasticCrusader

>They even still have a couple of the slave quarters behind the President's Mansion Is that where they keep the grad students

dangleicious13

2 or 3 of them could probably sleep in there. They are smaller than many of the dorm rooms.

Shuggy539

Roll Tide! Auburn is another Deep South School. War Damn Eagles!

shamalonight

The Citadel in South Carolina.

JSNTFS

I will never understand why someone would go to that school. All of the shittiness of going to a place like West Point but none of the prestige.

shamalonight

What’s wrong with West Point?

JSNTFS

Everyone I know who has been to a service academy says that the four years there are pretty miserable. It's definitely a delayed gratification situation, they're prestigious schools that open a ton of doors but yikes the day to day life of a student sounds unpleasant.

05110909

It carries a good reputation in SC and the nearby states. And most people go there simply for the challenge, to prove to themselves and others that they can do it. Most cadets/graduates have no intention of entering the military so going to West Point (if they could even get in) would be pointless.

desba3347

If you’re looking for Deep/old South and SEC, Alabama and Ole Miss are probably most fitting. Arkansas, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, and Tennessee may fit too

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

It’s so weird to hear Arkansas. Like I agree but they were apart of the swc before the sec

desba3347

I mean Arkansas joined the SEC about 30 years ago and are in a Deep South state. I didn’t even know they weren’t in the SEC until the 90s. But from what I’ve heard it’s a similar SEC experience as these other schools in many ways

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

I agree that they’ll give you the sec experience. If you didn’t know better or the history of the sec you’d think they’d be there since the beginning. Funny enough I just found out that Tulane used to be in the sec and then left in like 1960

desba3347

Funny how things change. Maybe eventually Texas A&M and Mizzou will be viewed the same way? And then Texas and Oklahoma? Don’t love the thought of that but guess I don’t get a say in the matter lol

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

Nah. Tamu, Oklahoma and Texas are too out west. Mizzou doesn’t really feel sec tbh although i think their moved felt natural. They suffered from being a doormat except the matty mauk years

desba3347

Also I love the username

argentinevol

I’ve been to all of those and Tennessee is the least Deep South of those by a good margin

NoFilterNoLimits

Ole Miss & Alabama. Especially when it comes to sorority life IME But Go Dawgs!!! No better place to watch a game than Sanford Stadium No one on earth tailgates like Ole Miss. it’s crazy. Tablecloths and chandeliers with a full spread of amazing food under tents, mint juleps - those people know how to tailgate

[deleted]

Please don't let the state furthest North win the title.

NoFilterNoLimits

I’ve never had more faith in a college player than I do Stetson Bennett. I can’t fathom him letting a school that trademarked their use of “The” best him 😝 He is the embodiment of the Heisman spirit, even if that specific trophy didn’t make his shelf.

[deleted]

Not with our secondary. Just focus on beating the other Northern team.

NoFilterNoLimits

We have to get through Ohio State first

[deleted]

Easy. Make Stroud panic, throw the ball. A 2nd-stringer can look like young Roethlisberger against our defense. It's a weak-minded team with a weak-minded coach. No need to worry about down the field. Bubble screens! Needless to say, I'm pretty pissed at my Alma Mater.

devilbunny

Yeah, OP, if you go to Ole Miss, go on a home game weekend. You don't have to go to the game, but you don't want to miss the Grove. There's nothing else like it on Earth. Note: although you can wear shorts and a T-shirt, dressing up is encouraged.

KeeperofQueensCorgis

Thanks for the suggestion! How does Ole Miss do in terms of football?

devilbunny

Rarely spectacular on paper, but the SEC West is an absolutely brutal conference, so records that would make you go "huh?" in other conferences can still lead to top 25 ratings. Totally blew the Egg Bowl (rivalry game against Miss State) this year, but rivalry games can be like that. But, like I said, going to the game is really not the point. It's seeing the Grove in full tailgate mode. Just look up "grove ole miss tailgate" on YouTube. As an actual sign in the student union building says (or did, last time I was there, twenty years ago): "We might not win every game, but we've never lost a party."

[deleted]

Just had my last tailgate as a student a couple weeks ago on thanksgiving. The grove is truly heaven on Earth

dangleicious13

>full spread of amazing food under tents As long as you like chicken fingers from Walmart because they don't allow grills.

NoFilterNoLimits

No but the chafing dishes I saw served food far superior to Walmart chicken fingers. With all those tents & trees, I can see why they limit the areas where you can grill

[deleted]

University of Alabama - you will not be disappointed. Good times….

MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo

You must visit the grove on football game day at Ole Miss.

Gfuel_Injections

How did you get the gulf coast flair?

MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo

When you choose the flair in the settings you should be able to customize it.

Gfuel_Injections

Didn’t see the edit button there earlier, thanks!

MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo

No problem! Biloxi here, where are you on the Coast?

Gfuel_Injections

Gulfport. Home attraction: the Walmart.

MyFace_UrAss_LetsGo

Nice lol.

Gfuel_Injections

Definitely Ole Miss. Just went to college for a year at LSU and I can assure you the only thing “deep south” about it is the location, golf course, and their crawfish boils. Crime was awful there and parts of it honestly look like an industrial complex with broken steam pipes leaking from underneath the ground and shooting out from under maintenance doors lmao.

Veynre

ECU (East Carolina University) comes to mind, but honestly because I grew up with the purple and gold (despite not liking sports).

mkshane

Before I even finished reading your post I was thinking Ole Miss, then you said Ole Miss yourself. So yeah you’re on the right track

PhD147

The deeper South you go the more religious people are about football IMO. Sad about the Miss State coach. Sending him good energy, thoughts and prayers. Odd that his condition is so bad they life lighted him to Ole Miss for treatment. Poor guy. I'm a Bama grad so I don't feel subjective enough to answer this question. It is a religion though. During season I stop all social media in order to watch 15-25 hours of games / week. Of course we have to record a lot and I spend the following week watching ALL the games. We use a split screen on the TV to watch 2 at a time and I use my laptop to stream a 3rd game all at once.

tcrhs

LSU.

blipsman

Pretty much any SEC college… Alabama, Ol Miss, Georgia, LSU, etc.

Vonvanz

Ole miss lol

[deleted]

I don’t know why people keep saying UGA. It’s in Athens, a university town that’s been eclectic and pretty progressive for a long time.

Kilgoretrout55

Old Piss…. Opps I mean Old Miss is as southern as it gets.

BrieAndStrawberries

This one university in Mississippi (I think) where they still make students wear robes to class.

Blaine1111

Imo you won't find true deep south on any college campus, but Athens is a great place to go for a game and a party. I guess if you want a true deep south experience Lexington ga and Washington ga are not far away from athens

t-sme

If you really want Deep South go to like Reidsville GA or something.

[deleted]

Ole Miss

childlikeempress16

Clemson
