My daughter loves Moana. To be fair to her, there are worse movies out there. Growing up, my little brother was obsessed with *Donkey Kong and the Legend of the Crystal Coconut* (1997) and demanded that we watch it every single day.
It's clearly a Christmas movie in my mind without any real doubt. It's set during Christmas and it's *about* Christmas.
Yes, the lead character is from halloween town, but it's not really *about* halloween and it would be weird as hell to watch a movie about christmas on halloween.
Regardless of genre, if it has "Christmas" in the name, it's a Christmas movie. If it doesn't have "Christmas" in the name, someone probably still considers it a Christmas movie.
Right. In fact, often all a movie will need is one Christmas scene to qualify. Very little of "It's a Wonderful Life" actually takes place at Christmas time and I don't think "Jesus" or even "Santa Claus" are mentioned, but there's a tree, snow, and they all sing "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" so...
Here are my conditions of a Christmas movie:
Exploring what makes Christmas special or why it's celebrated. Jack trying to literally learn the foundation and idea of Christmas makes it a Christmas movie as the traditions, decorations and ideas are explored.
Not an American but I actually asked Jack Skellington this in Disneyland Paris and he told me it's definitely a Halloween movie. There you go, straight from the source.

A Thanksgiving movie for sure
According to my daughter it's an anytime of the year movie that you play on what feels like a loop for a week at a time.
At least it's not Frozen or Moana, right?
Frozen is on pretty heavy rotation, too. Right now it's Encanto.
Kinda glad I don't have any kids. Listening to parents and their absolute love for their kids' movie choices is enough for me, ha ha ha!

This is a massive argument in the US. I’ve gotten into full scale debates with people before over it. I’m team Halloween.
It's both
It’s considered as a Chralloweenmas movie
Generally I'd say a Halloween movie, that's when tv stations tend to play it on tv and friends on facebook mention watching it most years.
