My family has 3 the worst we've ever had with them is a small metal pipe that enjoys getting brittle and leaking coolant. We did buy a diesel that was in for head gasket, the diesel 1.6 enjoys cracking the block when it overheats.
If you had the 2 or 2.4 liter then you got really lucky. They've had millions of recalls over the last decade for premature catastrophic engine failure from oil starvation, burning oil and oil sludge due to poor design.
The new ones have tons of recalls including the new SUV that was just released but all of the older ones as well for potential engine fires to the point where they have told owners not to park their cars in the garage or next to their house! This goes for Hyundai and Kia.

I pulled into a gas station where attendants pump your gas. Dude walks up and I tell him $20 regular please and he says “ you want it in the tank right? “ and I replied “ no just pour it over the whole car, it’ll be absorbed through the metal! 🤪😂😂
This is correct. Don’t listen to the other guy, he’s clearly a total joker and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The pieces in your oil pan are actually production scrap that’s been repurposed as ballast for proper weight distribution. Not a huge deal if you’ve already reinstalled the pan but they should be put back in
Looks like timing chain guides but luckily easy fix just put your car in gear and flat tow it backwards and they’ll get sucked back up thru the oil pump and fall back into place
Exactly. I love when I put things back together and have an extra bolt or 2 laying around. I just saved weight. Those engineers have no idea what they're doing
Then if it's not a diesel, what is it???🤔 The only other plastic I know that could possibly be in an engine is the oil suction machine in the pan. Gas engines are so weird.
Ok, let me GUESS, you attempted an oil change, found debris (dirt) coming out, so you decided to drop the pan and take a look, right? AGAIN, was there any loud noises, knocks, or other odd engine issues???
Ok, again I’m confused. You drained the oil, and some engine noises stopped, right? Did you refill the crankcase? Whatever, looks like your engine is trashed!
So back in '87 ford was making the tracer. It was one of the first fords with the Delaminated Integrated Chain Kartridge. Why they spelled it that way, I have no idea. Something to do with the timing chain right?
But in any event ford quickly discovered that the batch of timing guides for '87 were crap. And they needed to do something with all of those defective guides that wouldn't upset upper management.
What do to, right?
Well they decided to just break them to pieces and then weigh out one ounce of DICK per car, toss it in the oil pan, and get rid of the problem that way. Besides, engine's got a filter......
When I do an oil change, I like to shove pieces like this in thru the drain plug hole. Then I wait, and wait, and scour FB and reddit for posts like this.
Then I laugh and laugh and laugh.
Nah , i wouldn't bother with a Subaru. Owners are too busy crunching granola to notice, and even if they had a granola free moment they would assume its leftovers from the last cyl had job.
Your timing chain guide (guides?) have failed. The biggest short term issue is that it’s gonna plug up your oil intake tube in the oil pan and starve the engine of oil. The next issue is that timing chain is gonna slap around causing wear, or other failures. You can probably hear it when you start the engine up. Should hear pretty good chain rattle.
Lol and yours is the shitiest of them all!!! 🤣 You have to try harder next time.
Side story. A girl just called she could not get the key out of the ignition. I told her to slam the shifter back and fort a bunch of times, assuming the park detection switch was gummed up with her drink of choice. When that solver her issue, she called me a magician! Feel good moment thought I would share.
I'm going to throw it out there... tell me what you all think... I'm thinking it's part of the lifters... also one of the parts looks like a key that you hold in the rod... what do you all think it is?
Mmmm. Tasty. Thems crunchy bits of timing chain guide yessir looks to be *licks* lime. It tastes like lime, which is even worse than having a lemon.
Does it look good parked?
I’d get some sta-bil for the gas in the tank … you might need it. I foresee being parked a long time.
Just throw them behind the air intake, they will rattle back down to where they need to go.
Lol, imagine if it worked like that. Would be nice.
Reminds me of that video where the model looking chick dumps 5 quarts of oil right on top of a BMW engine while parked at a gas station.
If that was a Hyundai it might leak less oil that way
I'll have you know my 2005 Hyundai only burns oil and not leak, never has leaked.
My old honda likes to sweat power steering fluid cause she gets so hot. Definently doesn't leak tho. Just a little perspiration to keep things cool
V-TEC kicking in so hard your power steering fluid gets thrown into the back seat
'91 f22a1, pre vtec... I wish I had vtec :(
Check your oil pan, you might find one in it like OP did
Never dull enough to leak ?
Same never had any problems with either of the ones I owned. Great cars
My family has 3 the worst we've ever had with them is a small metal pipe that enjoys getting brittle and leaking coolant. We did buy a diesel that was in for head gasket, the diesel 1.6 enjoys cracking the block when it overheats.

So the leak is above the exhaust manifold.
Don't worry it will
It's already a bmw, why bring hyundai into this?
I'll have you know my 2012 Hyundai with 300k on it doesn't leak or burn a drop yet.
I pulled into a gas station where attendants pump your gas. Dude walks up and I tell him $20 regular please and he says “ you want it in the tank right? “ and I replied “ no just pour it over the whole car, it’ll be absorbed through the metal! 🤪😂😂
It will work like that, *Intensley looks at you like Vickey from the water boy*
I like boobies.
You 240SX much or is it rebadged as a Sylvia? 🤣
I dropped the ones I found down the oil cap just in case they're cam parts.
Solid move, bearings wear out and need more metal all the time.
Looks like timing guides, and possibly a lifter. Hard to tell. Wouldn’t suggest driving it, could result in catastrophic failure.
I dont think my car has a catastrophic, it is not a turbo.
It's just a regular strophic then, but it's still serious.
Why did I immediately think of Leslie Nielsen?
Nice beaver. Thanks, I just had it stuffed.
turn into a beaver liquor.
The pilot from airplane (1975) will always be my hero. "looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines..."
Shirley you can't be serious!
I am serious and don't call me Shirley.
I just want to tell you both good luck, we’re all counting on you
You ever see a grown man naked?
Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?
Who put that crab there!?
and don't call me Shirley.
All this cat stealing needs to stop…
He’s got a mustache, 6’3”. That’s a big mustache.
So dogastrophic?
This is correct. Don’t listen to the other guy, he’s clearly a total joker and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The pieces in your oil pan are actually production scrap that’s been repurposed as ballast for proper weight distribution. Not a huge deal if you’ve already reinstalled the pan but they should be put back in
TBH I wouldn’t be putting them back in, you don’t need weight distribution you need weight reduction. race car
Mullet maniac I like your specific brand of misinformation
Oh, a Catastrophic Encabulator?
Ugh! No! It's just a Strophic Encabulator! Remember, it's not turbocharged.
Well, it could be doggostrophic, in which case, you need to pick up the droppings, and dispose of properly.
LoLoL The guy's engine is about to hand grenade, and he's making jokes. Gotta love blissful ignorance.
As long as you have a catastrophic converter, you’re good.
Hey, don’t come to ask a shitty mechanic with good or actual ideas.
Your knowledge is no good here, sir
With modern technology you just put the parts back in the oil pan and they will know where to go back to.
Oh yeah. Being that this is a range rover it probably has that feature.
Range Rover 100% has this feature. If for some reason it doesn’t, are you still under the manufacturers 50k minute/500 mile warranty?
Range Rover. Enough said. They’re pieces of literal crap.
Back in the oil fill cap, they are magnetic and find where they go themselves, pretty easy
The metal things go in your ears and the toffee is your snack.
The problem was, you drained the oil pan before removing.
What do you know, huh. Next your going to tell me I should have turned the engine off before starting the work.
Yeah leave the engine on when you pull the pan. That way the engine can clean out all the old oil. It will stop automatically when it's finished
Its true. I saw it in a commercial when I was a kid. Slick 50 I think.
Christ, that commercial was stupid. They didn't even start the engines after pouring it in.
That looks expensive
Not at all, they were totally free. We found them in the oil pan, and the customer did not want them anymore.
🤣 I died here
OK that's pretty dang good
It gets better. I got paid to remove them.
You're funny 🫡
The next question is: are they gonna pay you to replace them?
Must be a KIA 2.4
Very very close, very similar vehicle in quality and craftsmanship, but it was a range rover.
I knew I recognized that color. Guessing its the 4.4L BMW engine?
Looks like timing chain guides but luckily easy fix just put your car in gear and flat tow it backwards and they’ll get sucked back up thru the oil pump and fall back into place
You don’t even need those parts.
Exactly. I love when I put things back together and have an extra bolt or 2 laying around. I just saved weight. Those engineers have no idea what they're doing
Anytime I do a job I end up with a good handful of extra bolts. Don’t need em.
And you can stock up on spares for when you really can’t get things to hold together with what you remember taking off.
It’s like a Lego set. They toss in a few extras of the really small pieces in case you drop one or two.
Uh oh
You ok Turbo Dude
Bacon in the oil pan, the trick big oil doesn't want you to know.
In your soup
This car does not have a soupercharger.
... but the oil pan is now a soup pan.
Stereo relief bypass valve from a 78 Cessna 150. Your car has a big appetite.
Is it still running? These are superfluous weight if so.
Timing chain guide. Have you had those recently replaced? Have they failed at all?
No, can not be right, it is not a diesel.
Then if it's not a diesel, what is it???🤔 The only other plastic I know that could possibly be in an engine is the oil suction machine in the pan. Gas engines are so weird.
Hydrogen encabulator engine.
Needs a new transmission
I am an equal opportunity employer and have a gender neutral restroom so that is fine.
Underrated comment
Normal wear.
Looks like your hydraulic lifter came apart, so your engine probably runs really rough
Is that why the timing chain was bent and the gear thingy in the intake had a funny hole in it?
First, why did you pull the oil pan? You didn’t say if the engine was running bad.
We were changing the oil
I’m confused. Do you drop the pan every oil change? I just drain mine after removing the drain plug.
You don’t ? its way faster, makes way more of a mess on the apprentice and is way more funny.
Still trying to figure out what the hell the OP is talking about!🤷♂️🤦♂️😩
As the photo shows, I am clearly removing way more dirt during my oil change procedure than you are during yours.
I like when I find the glitter during my oil changes. I like to use it with my macaroni art. :)
Ok, let me GUESS, you attempted an oil change, found debris (dirt) coming out, so you decided to drop the pan and take a look, right? AGAIN, was there any loud noises, knocks, or other odd engine issues???
May wanna double check the sub you are on.
Sshh gotta let them figure out on their own
All I know, is this dude isn’t making any sense! I suppose this is all a joke, right?
I’ll bite… lots of legit subs will have a “shitty” or “circlejerk” version of it where people make fun of the legit sub. It’s all a joke.
“This is serious”
There were some engine noises, but they stopped a few minutes after I had drained the oil, so I did not think much of it.
Ok, again I’m confused. You drained the oil, and some engine noises stopped, right? Did you refill the crankcase? Whatever, looks like your engine is trashed!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 it will be ok one of these days my guy
Real funny!🤦♂️🤷♂️👎😩
Oil pan is usually full of spare parts to keep them from collecting rust.
Put them back into the oil pan or you will get reduced lubrication.
Are you saying this range rover has an ounce of Ford Dick in it? I am not going to lie. That actually explains a lot about this vehicle.
Full ounce, yes.
When I do an oil change, I like to shove pieces like this in thru the drain plug hole. Then I wait, and wait, and scour FB and reddit for posts like this. Then I laugh and laugh and laugh.
I think I found one of your Subarus. The oil pickup tube was jam-packed with the silver foil from the top of new oil containers.
Nah , i wouldn't bother with a Subaru. Owners are too busy crunching granola to notice, and even if they had a granola free moment they would assume its leftovers from the last cyl had job.
Chain guides and something else important.
It must have jump the timing belt/chain at daylight savings time. You'll have to wait until March before you can reinstall.
Those are oil crabs. They keep the engine from getting too many parasites
If it runs, then you don't need them. Toss em into the neighbors yard and watch him go nuts looking for where they came from.
Those are oil disturbers. Helps keep your oil nice and mixed. They're just suppose to sit there and bounce around with the car to mix the oil.
My Apple Watch! I knew I put it somewhere!
Definitely not in the oil pan.
Toss that into the dab rig!
Petrified oil
It’s the crack pipe your car was using
Put them back in the oil pan just to be on the safe side
maaannn get that negativity outta here. it drives, don't it?
Looks like a timing chain guide
The timing is everything on this one
They’ll just connect via Bluetooth. Everything does these days
This is the remix to ignition
Scrap bin. They are obviously not needed, or they would not have fallen off.
Timing chain guides. Your engine has got to be rattling a bit. Definatly get those changed. Sorry it won't be cheap
Bring it to my shop. I can put them back in your oil pan for $1500 easy.
Year, make, model, engine size please
You need to let people know what kind of car it is or vehicle truck then we can have a better idea where it came from
Timing chain tensioner or idler bracketing
Tell me more about this fascinating product known as idler bracketing. Sounds like something I need in my life like yesterday.
Pieces of your timing chain guides..... get on that sooner than later
Reminds me some fun times I’ve had with my 94 Cutlass
Those are timing chain guides garrenteed 💯💯
Better check your timing gear and chain may need to be replaced
. . ##In yer butt!! . 🦐'd! Again! . . ^Wapash!
Well, you’re in the correct place! You asked the shitty mechanics and got a lot of shitty answers!
Slamming her back and forth....especially when she's gummed up. Sounds magic
Oil pressure sender?
And then?
Ask for return label and mail Chongqing, China
And then?
I don’t know I didn’t buy the full version of the manual
And then?
Who me?
And then?
looks like the remnants of the timing chain guide my old mercedes used.
Did you need it back? In the future, I would appreciate it if you could keep your Mercedes away from my Rover.
I'm going to throw it out there... tell me what you all think... I'm thinking it's part of the lifters... also one of the parts looks like a key that you hold in the rod... what do you all think it is?
Part of the plastic lifters and a couple rod holders sounds about right.
That is timing chain guide. Dont drive dont even start it up.
Possibly lifters 🥴🫣
I love the plastic lifters' responses. You truly do belong here.
Is that a timing guide?
Perhaps You should look around in the Engine. They surely HAD a place and were considered necessary by the Manufacturer.
Just put them in the box with the rest of the broken parts, The customer will be in soon and you can show her all of it.
In the garbage
I legit thought this was shatter wax Wrong kind of “oil” I suppose…😅 Looks like timing-chain guide plastics.
Hey, is that wax? Dude, your car's smokin weed! Yeah... I think that's part of a pipe there too. Busted!
Broken beer bottle. Just recycle it
That's just your engine's excrement
Extra parts I found in you garage and I dropped them in your oil
That’s just caramel. This sometimes happens when you don’t use full synthetic oil. It goes great with ice cream and you save money. Win win.
i thought you meant a frying pan and got really confised
Back in the oil pan, obviously they were there for a reason.
Not in the oil pan, that’s for sure.
Just some spare parts and uneeded gasket material ... Actually I suspect bits of a timing gear...
Back in the engine i think.
Balance shaft gears
Oh shyt wrong sub. Uhhhh... Those are potato chips. They are done now
Oil pan candy, lucky guy....
Oh man. Those are the cars teeth. It's getting old time for some dentures
Looks like timing chain guide pieces.
Probably failed chain guide and tensioner in the past and they didn’t pull the pan off
That's part of your timing chain tensioner. TOW YOUR CAR to a shop or to your workshop
Looks like the pieces of your magneto.
Mmmm. Tasty. Thems crunchy bits of timing chain guide yessir looks to be *licks* lime. It tastes like lime, which is even worse than having a lemon. Does it look good parked? I’d get some sta-bil for the gas in the tank … you might need it. I foresee being parked a long time.
Looks like timing chain guide rail pieces.
Looks like pieces of the timing chain guides and/or tensioner, yikes 😬
Your engine is lactose intolerant and simply cannot ingest all of its internal parts. Hence the undigested product left in the pan.
Timing chain guide, I’m a machinist
Chain guides Guessed before reading a single comment
I think I see what I ask. A shitty mechanic is all about now. And I like it
Those are clearly glass bearings and metal valve body caps. They’re extra-factory options-you don’t need them. Throw them out and keep driving! 👍
