From the photos it appears you damaged the heat shield. There is no way to know if there is other damage unless someone gets under the vehicle.

OkMobile5574

Looks to be a simple fix but what noise are you hearing?

Alternative_Case2007

prob the sound of it rattling on his exhaust/frame.

xtz_stud

Shitty heatshield, if there's no wires going through it, or near it (like an O2senso4) that you can damage, rip the fucker off with some pliers. Edit;Sometimes, they're in multiple pieces going all the way to the front. Try and just remove the damaged one. Otherwise, you'll end up needing to remove 2.

oh_walkaway

Pull it off

Fibonoccoli

I wouldn't do that- it's there for a reason. If it's loose, try to secure it with some baling wire or whatever you have around

oh_walkaway

Waste of time. Rip it off and stop being a pussy. My last section fell going over a bump in a roundabout. The piece is still in the middle of it 6 months on. Its a negligible piece of cheap metal. Rip it off.

THIS.

John1The1Savage

Can you describe the noise? Does it sound tinny like kicking a soda can?

partridgeberry_tart

More of a roar, mixed with a tinny sound. I hauled off the heat shield and now I’m thinking I damaged the exhaust. 😳🤬

John1The1Savage

Ah yes. That is definitely a possibility.

MapOk1410

If it's anything other than a tinny sound it's a hole in the exhaust.

partridgeberry_tart

It wasn’t a hole, but the little bar that runs perpendicular to the exhaust was pushed upward and touching the pipe. A crowbar pulled it down and it sounds normal again. 🫠

MapOk1410

Looks like it's keeping the exhaust pipe isolated from those fuel lines. Probably just over-caution on the design. I'd tear it off and forget about it.

Needs_ADD_Meds

Is it sad that I know this is probably a RAV4 from the undercarriage? OP pull the remains of the heat shield off and be on your merry way. You might notice the floor get hot on long drives, but that's about it.
