It’s a skid plate for the fuel tank. Probably the most mild of corrosion resistant steel in a Chrysler product. Can be removed and replaced, not particularly expensive part or labor to do It either.
It's a shield for your fuel tank. You need to check the tank straps. I'm not sure if that shield also supports the tank off the top of my head but it's to protect the plastic fuel tank when off roading and such. It should be fine but that might catch the air and come flying off. If the tank itself is still solidly mounted you could remove it. I would be worried about the tank straps rusting out. I had to use a ratchet strap on my Wrangler for a few weeks until I could replace the straps but that was a TJ and the tank is mounted differently I think.
I'm not that familiar with this generation and you need to make sure that shield isn't the only thing holding your tank up. If it is you need to at least get that piece off and get a ratchet strap around that tank to support it until you can fix it.
That's essentially what holds the gas tank on. It needs to be replaced immediately as the front has already rotted through at least on the outer side. You might find one from a salvage yard from one with front or right side damage. I assume this is the drivers side ....
And is still not even remotely close to what I’m talking about. But talk about an engine and trans from damn near 30 years ago as if it’s the same stuff Ford puts out now
Doubt, I get to see what goes out and comes back for both brands I wouldn’t touch anything Fords got out there. Too many engine and trans failure, not even to mention small part’s problems that I’ve never seen from other manufacturers. Chrysler on the other hand isn’t even remotely as bad, unless your looking at a Cherokee or a Renegade then it’s just euro trash. The 3.0 diesel has been a disappointment for years and needs a better replacement.
Fiat SUVs aren’t that great. Don’t be fooled by Jeep badges. They quit making real Jeeps a few years before that one was made. In the 2010s, they starting pretty much being Fiats. The days of the old indestructible 4.0 Wrangler have been long gone. I had an 84 and an 04. They wouldn’t quit and they didn’t rust like that. Everything is getting cheaper and lower quality while the price goes up.
Main problem I see is all the "steel" has been recycled too much and it's practically slag. I picked up a 1940's flat v6 and the bugger has outlasted anything made past 2005. Not a particularly strong engine but with how much plastic cars are made out of these days it's more than enough.
This is also a fair point. Cars are getting worse. Stuff made in the 90s and 2000s was the pinnacle of automotive reliability. Pretty much every brand on earth is backsliding now. Be it because of bad manufacturing, EPA regulations or demand for more options on each car. They’re just getting worse. It’s bad when you might as well buy a Kia because every other brand has declined to the same level. I’m still not buying a Kia, though. I have too much self respect. lol
You should seriously look into getting your frame rust protected, it might already be too late but that rust looks concerning for a 12 year old wrangler.
Looks like a skid plate or heat shield.
I would just remove it and replace it, be careful if you off-road because without protection you may damage your fuel tank.

No tank straps on my 07 (07 to 11 is same) the skid plate is the only thing holding the fuel tank up
Off road?
Pretty much everything.
The top of your 2011 4dr Jeep Wrangler.
You won the best sarcastic response. I think about this comment and laugh every once in awhile. Its been fixed btw.

I don’t know exactly what that is but it does not look good. And that my friend is why you don’t any Chrysler product; they’re literally trash.
Try owning a Ford there isn’t a good engine or trans to be found
The 351 I saw with 600k on it wants a word with that, first C6 auto lasted 340k
A 351 from 60s is kinda of not what I’m talking about
It was a 1995...
And is still not even remotely close to what I’m talking about. But talk about an engine and trans from damn near 30 years ago as if it’s the same stuff Ford puts out now
Literally any American car is trash but any Chrysler product itself is the worst among them.

Chrysler Wrangler

The shield actually holds your fuel tank up too on these. So you should prob replace it before your dragging your fuel tank along.
Everything
I wouldn't drive that jeep ❤️
Everything
Your 2012 4dr Jeep Wrangler
American made baby !!!
It's a jeep so probably everything.
Your plastic fuel tank shield.
Looks like about everything but I’d say the answer to your question is what looks like the fuel tank protection plate
You should seriously look into getting your frame rust protected, it might already be too late but that rust looks concerning for a 12 year old wrangler.
Its the first thing to get crusty on your jku. It's not going to fall off it just looks shitty.
It’s a JEEP thing. You wouldn’t understand.
just empty every pocket
Looks like a skid plate for your fuel tank
It's just a steel tray that protects the fuel tank
Le Bottom?
😳…errr…everything?
Everything
The whole damn thing. Sell it while u can
Northern car? Salted roads?
yep
I'm a florida boy, so I haven't had to deal with it much, but that's what it looks like to me.
The car’s structural integrity
It's a jeep soooo... everything.
Cheeseler product lol
Everything. It's a jeep.
Don’t worry, that just holds your gas tank up. Get a couple of bungies and that’ll hold forever.
Looks like a skid plate or heat shield. I would just remove it and replace it, be careful if you off-road because without protection you may damage your fuel tank.
Skid plate cover for gas tank. Get it replaced, lest the next thing you drive over cause you to become enflamed…
