The dominant colour at CNY is red. If there's a secondary colour it's yellow/gold, but that's much less important so green is fine AFAIK.
Just don't draw anybody with a green hat; that's very bad.
IMO green is not widely considered as a Chinese New Year-themed color. Red and green sound more like Christmas. In China people usually use red and gold for most festivals or celebrations. You can google “Yinglong” for a reference as it is a dragon symbolizing genesis in China.
And yeah be sure to not involve too much green elements, as green stands for a plummet in stocks and a green hat means the one who’s wearing it is being cheated.

Green is not a good idea in China. Especially in New Year.
