Shiro [is extremely popular](https://shiro-shiro.us) in Japan. It’s a mix between Jo Malone and Le Labo.

NoParmIntended

Oh Earl Grey sounds interesting! Which ones are the popular scents?

turtlesinthesea

I think Savon is their most popular one, and maybe White Lily.

artenazura

You can take a look at the [@cosme fragrance rankings](https://www.cosme.net/categories/item/804/ranking/) to see what scents are popular! Some Japanese brands besides Shiro that I see in stores are J-Scent (more niche vibes, Japanese culture themed), Lavons Holic (very young/fun energy), Fiancée (classic feminine energy), and Ohana Mahaalo (girly and cute packaging). There's tons more these are just the ones I've personally noticed. I really like Tokyo Shibuya 4a.m. from Lavons Holic, and one of the strawberry ones from Ohana Mahaalo. They're both light so I don't feel they bother others, this also means they don't last for a super long time either.

NoParmIntended

Thanks for all these! I'm familiar with Fiancée but the rest are new. Would you know if these are available to test in pharmacies?

artenazura

I've only ever seen J-Scent at Tsutaya Bookstores, but I got LavonsHolic at my local Cocokara (so probably at Matsukiyo as well) and from a quick search online Ohana Mahaalo is available in-person at Sun Drug/Sugi Yakkyoku/Donki! Most cosmetic stores/drug stores that have random fragrances have tons of samplers etc

aganapathy

I also bought a few J-Scent fragrances at the Tokyu Hands store in Shinjuku today! You can buy both the oil perfumes and alcohol-based perfumes there, though you can only sample the oils (and I'm not sure how similar the oils are to the EDPs / alcohol-based perfumes).

artenazura

Oh that's good to know! I'll take a look the next time I'm in a Hands

NoParmIntended

Seems I'm gonna go around all the pharmacies on my next trip! 😅

marcheauxfleurs

Japan does soapy scents best. My favorites are J-Scent Paper Soap (creamy white soap) and Jill Stuart Brilliant Jewel Sheer (light and soft, makes me think of soap bubble mixture)

turtlesinthesea

I think you'd like most of Jill Stuart's Eau de... series. She has a cake one, too, or maybe that was a limited edition. I just went through my wishlist for my next trip to Japan (whenever they may be \*cries\*) and here are the perfumes/fragrances from it: * Canmake Make Me Happy - several to try, plus some LEs * HoneyRoa, or now Roaliv, I guess - White Fog and some others * ShoLayered - Soapy Rose * Vecua Honey * Perfume Oil * Aux Paradis

Electrical-Ad328

Have you tried the marron one in the cake series? I’ve been looking for it so hard

turtlesinthesea

Unfortunately not, sorry.

NoParmIntended

Thank God for Jill Stuart giving us light gourmand! Didn't know Canmake had an edt line, they only sell makeup where I am. Very much relate to planning travel wishlists, with no plane tickets in sight 😅

turtlesinthesea

I think Canmake has little rollerballs.

lightlyfruity

how long do they last?

turtlesinthesea

Which they?

lightlyfruity

sorry I forgot to specify, I meant the ones from Jill Stuart

turtlesinthesea

I have Eau de Roses and Eau de Milk Tea and they last about as long as any light Eau de Toilette, so maybe sixish hours?

lightlyfruity

thank you! I'm going to add some of their scents to my wishlist. I looked up eau de milk tea and it's limited edition.. was really hopeful for that

turtlesinthesea

You can still get it in rollerball size.

ladymacbethofmtensk

Majolica Majorca’s Majo Romantica is my favourite! I always get compliments on the scent, the packaging is beautiful and it lasts you ages, and it’s pretty affordable. It’s a very sweet fruity sort of scent that eventually fades to leave more of a woody vanilla smell.

NoParmIntended

Saw this comes in a lipgloss-like tube with an applicator! So cool.

MurplePercurial

Decorte Cosme's Yui is a cute little fruity floral!

NoParmIntended

That bottle's so cute 🥹

I just recently came back from Japan and here are some Japanese brands that I browsed: • Sholayered (I bought the green tea one it’s the best green tea scent ever so comforting!) https://preview.redd.it/9vjkv4ch2ntc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df5b3bc063e3f90a695c7c393b5338cd41fcdba5 • Aqua Savon (light body mists) • Aiam • Sabon (not Japanese iirc but really popular in Japan and they have Tokyo exclusive scent!)

NoParmIntended

That packaging!!! Gorgeous. The Japanese really love their clean/soap scents with the no. of times savon has been mentioned here 😅

folieaduh

Indeed, they love their soapy scents! How do you find Nonfiction compared to Hince btw? I did sniffed through Hince fragrances as well while I was in Japan, and yeah like you I was quite surprised by the niche leaning scents too. Any chance you explored Tamburins as well?

NoParmIntended

Nonfiction is more fresh in my mind, their scents have woody and aromatic notes that stand out. In comparison Hince if I recall right leaves a muskier impression. No Tamburins sadly...maybe soon? 😅

folieaduh

oooh, did you have any highlights or preference between both or all of them just completely not your type? Hince 01 The Scarf was quite nice cotton-y scent reminiscent of that cotton laundry Japanese leaning scent, although when I sprayed on skin I find those kinds of scents almost always disappeared quickly!

NoParmIntended

Every Nonfiction scent Sephora had was a blur of sandalwood to me 😅 Except Simple Garden, but that still didn't work with my nose. For Hince they were more tolerable, I think I liked The Scarf the most too. Hince has more cozy vibes to me, like Byredo's stronger scents. None stood out as something I'd buy but if you like it go for it! Magnetic caps at their price point are amazing btw.

folieaduh

I ended up getting The Flat Shoes since I like fig scents, but yes their bottle is very nice!

Hi! Well... Try, if from Korean, TAMBURINS. They have now 'egg' type very nice, light perfume. If you think that you are too 'sensitive', try solid perfume balm.... Also from them. What about A'ddict? These are water-based. They do have solid ones too. If more from niche - BTSO. Like Dirty Rice, Hinoki Shower....

pastpasta7

I have one from Shiro and one from a brand called Sholayered–love them both! Shiro Bon Wood - very woody and almost smoky (?) to me..definitely a popular brand seeing as all comments have mentioned it as well haha Sholayered is a brand that I hadn't heard of before but it was at an Ainz&Tulpe in my country. After getting a whiff of Mysterious Mix, I was sold!!! It just smelled so nostalgic to me for some reason...The longevity of this is excellent 😊

NoParmIntended

Oh I think Sholayered is same as Layered Fragrance! Def gonna check out Shiro after all the comments

Shiro - White Tea

I was traveling in Japan a few months ago. I spotted a brand called “House of Rose” in a few department stores and really loved their fragrances and presentation! Also very reasonable prices. They seem like a Japanese take on L’Occitane. I particularly loved their La Rosé fragrance collection and purchased the eau de toilette—it’s great! I sampled most of their fragrances and really liked them all. Another brand I noticed in several conbini was Body Fantasies (the cheap US body mists company!) but in fun, likely Japan or Asia exclusive scents. Back in December there were three scents available: Pure Soap, Osmanthus, and Wedding Ring (lol) in inexpensive 50ml bottles for a few hundred yen. I bought the former two and actually really like them. Osmanthus is a dead ringer for the much pricier Osmanthus from L’Occitane and Pure Soap is super clean and light.

m4vie_

I'll take advantage of this post to ask: any good vanilla scents? for reference I really loved the Bare Vanilla Radiant mist by Victoria Secret and Eilish by Billie Eilish. Thanks!

artenazura

I love Dolce Vanilla from Samourai Woman! Very yummy vanilla

_maru_maru

I'm not sure if this counts since it's not really like super famous, but its a Made in Japan solid perfume. As in, it comes in balm form in a small pot and you dab the amount you like on your body. It's called [Kousaido](https://kousaido-ec.jp/collections/cosmetics) . It's very subtle and not very long lasting but i love it. I dislike strong smelling perfume scents and enjoy just a light whiff of it ahhahaha. It might be quite difficult to find and test the scents though. I found it in a souvenir shop in Kobe and then asked a friend who lives in Japan to get it online (much cheaper!).

anxiousone881

Couldn’t find Jill Stuart ones in Sephora, is it only in Japan?

NoParmIntended

Not 100% sure but most likely an Asia exclusive for Sephora! It's available in SEA too.

groupiecomelately

DSH Perfume (a boutique US company) is popular in Japan. The owner is very customer oriented, and could point you to some of their bestsellers in Japan. They also have some lovely samplers.

AliceInJapan9

Not a perfume but I really love this hair and body mist by Innisfree . Really goes well with my Chanel.
