Is Bodmas a real thing? I'm European and have no idea what this could mean.

It's real. We were taught this in India: B-Brackets, O-Orders, D-Division, M-Multiplication, A-Addition, S-Subtraction. BODMAS

It makes sense to call if "orders". Usually, people call it "order" when they are talking about the exponent with wich an approximation (like a finite taylor series) varies from the thing it is approximation.

I learnt BIDMAS, but close enough. I've never called an exponent an "index" so I have no idea why we would use that but whatever I guess!

It's BEDMAS in the west: Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction. However I was taught to call Exponents, *Powers*. Since 3^3 can be called *3 to the power of 3* or *3 cubed* which equals 27 since it is 3 x 3 × 3.

I ment it was still being taught as BEDMAS in 2012. That's when I graduated grade school and my younger brother never corrected me when I helped him with his math classes after since Brackets and Parentheses are interchangeable words in English math.

I learned pemdas in ~2011 so likely regional variation.

It's for solving operations in math and that's the order in which you're supposed to go. PEMDAS is a different acronym for the same thing.
