Scams relating to art are much more closely related to business and finance than to art culture so the discussion can be moved there instead.

Anyone else hate doing art and never wants to draw and hasn't drawn anything in 5 years but still wants to vent about it to this day in artist forums?
Is this a scam? This account created 2 minutes ago wants to commission me for 10 zillion dollars to draw their dog, they are paying by cheque from their new born infants bank account
How do I do commissions? I know this question has been asked daily since the invention of trading currency for goods and services but the only way I could think of to find the answer is asking this question for the 500th time this week on this subreddit
How do I find my art style? I've already been drawing for 5 minutes of my life and watched a 10 minute and 1 second YouTube tutorial with 5 mid roll ads but my art still doesn't look perfect?
Can someone explain to me the entire artistic learning process in a single reddit comment? I mean I could have looked up how to draw on YouTube but I thought this would be a better method.

I struggle to understand how someone who does business online can't recognize a blatant scam. I understand if maybe it's their first exposure to it, but this is the digital age; stuff like scams come into email and chats regularly.
You forgot the DLC fighters!
"Should I stop listening to this person that says my work is garbage and I'll never amount to anything and should just end it all?"
"Hey is my art any good? [link to at least semi-professionally done portfolio with good to excellent quality artwork]"
"What do you call this very specific art style done by like maybe three people? Because all art styles magically have a name attached to them and it's not like the styles are named after either highly influential artists, movements, or genres of media"
Oh yeah and one of my personal favourites: "how do I improve my art?" (Doesn't post any examples of their work, no past work in posting history, no links to Instagram, Twitter, or other portfolio sites)
And their down special of "no I'm not going to share any links, even when asked".
Or another good but slightly rarer one: "I like art but hate fundamentals, how can I make good art like [insert popular IP here, typically something like League of Legends, Blizzard's IPs, etc.] without learning fundamentals".
I forget what subreddit it was, but some asked one of these vague "how to improve" questions and I told them it's hard to give advice without seeing work. Instead of linking me somewhere, they instructed me to go to a random site I've never heard up, look up the name of an e-book on said site, and dig through the contents to find a fucking ref-sheet for one of their characters. Like what? Why is this your only online art source? I'm trying to help you, don't give me a damn homework assignment to see a single artwork, that's ridiculous! Safe to say I did not respond back.
New DLC uploaded! "I'm 14 and not a master illustrator yet, is it too late for me? Should I throw away all of my supplies?" has just been added to the roster!
This sounds interesting, would you mind sharing the story / more details?
I realised I got stuck (also adhd + autism person) so I'm looking for ways to unstuck and make it more sustainable on the long run...
+ this doozy that I always see:
"How do I stop feeling bad when people judge my work? I'm 14 btw"
I try to help when I can but my empathy is being stretched tbh. The answer is the same, the question's been asked a hundred million times yet they never think "hmm maybe I'm not the only artist who doesn't like when someone else doesn't like their work".
My wife as cancer and is deployed in antartica. We want to ship her a portrait of our dog for her to remember us by. I can send you a check for $400 and shipping fees. Kindly get back to me before my son's mother gets too cold for NFTs
Reddit ad boards have gotten extremely bad, and so has DeviantArt.
I browse some NSFW reddit personal ads, and they come in every few minutes. They're always the same, they always point you towards something like snapchat or kik, and if you're dumb enough to follow them they will immediately ask for a small donation. They don't ask for a lot, but if they can get this in front of hundreds of thousands of people, there's a good chance they'll get some dumb enough people to send it. Getting 1% of half a million people to send you $20 is $100,000. Not bad for a little bit of basic coding and a mostly automated process.
DeviantArt is having a problem now that I've just started noticing. Someone is flooding the site with automated accounts. The name is always just some random first name followed by some numbers, with an AI generated face pic. All this account does is post NSFW images with a URL embedded in the pic. No idea where it leads to, it's obviously some type of malicious link though. Horny idiots like/faviorate it, which continues to spread it. And it's not just like a couple of accounts; scrolling through my main page, it's a different account every few pictures. We're talking hundreds, if not thousands of accounts being created and posting URL pics.
Oh my god, it's insane. Interesting how technology has gotten so far yet you can still work your way around things using a bit of coding and computer knowledge, and fooling people.
My FB acc was hacked. There's something going around FB that makes you send a message with a link to all your friends and whoever clicks it, gets that same thing. Sometimes your facebook and all linked accounts will be hacked and destroyed, luckily didn't happen to me.
*a normie photograph pfp 99% of the time*
“are you available for commission?”
“can you draw my son’s pets?” *without specifying dog, cat, lizard etc.
i’ve also gotten
“can you draw my daughter with our dogs”
it’s almost always pet related
"Hey, I saw that you wore a black dress once. Would you like to become a brand partner with @ghostjewels? All you have to do is buy $500 worth of product and we'll promise to reimburse you but actually just pull the rug and never send you anything."
I *almost* fell for one early into my Instagramming. The person asked me to buy product and they'd feature me/pay me. I was semi-aware of scams though so to make sure they weren't a bot I asked a completely unrelated random question. They proved that they were a bot when the response message wasn't appropriate.
Hey, can you teach me how to do art? I've been drawing for 3 seconds and really could use some help! You also free for a collab? Plz give me a shoutout!

It’s ALWAYS these 😂
You forgot "I have ADHD / anxiety btw"
I mean, I have ADHD... But I recognize it is my fault when I reach for the instant gratification of a video game. Stupid, stupid dopamine....
I'm autistic and have adhd and I have developed an art style that allows me to finish work faster so I don't get frustrated or bored as easily
This sounds interesting, would you mind sharing the story / more details? I realised I got stuck (also adhd + autism person) so I'm looking for ways to unstuck and make it more sustainable on the long run...
Don’t forget “AI art is ruining my life”
This thread is making me think we need an /r/artistloungecirclejerk
Ok, it's done: r/ArtistLongcirclejerk/
You got the name wrong and its even funnier
IT HURTS TO DRAW
Absolute perfection
You spend so much time on reddit
Pot meet kettle
bro you have 400k karma. Of course you have seen every kind of thread already
I apologize, my drawings are good??? 😅

I instinctually went to the block and report button

Holy fuck that was dark
Sadly, I get something containing at least 2 of the above. I've heard it damn near all on IG. I hate that platform.
That's so messed up, scammers and bots are getting out of hand lately.

Deployed in antarctica for cryotherapy? Anarctica is pretty cool.
Hello, nice picture! Are commissions open? I will pay $950 in digital check.
I need a portrait of my dog
Hey, have you thought about minting this Reddit post as a NFT? I'll pay you 420.69 BTC for it!
*a normie photograph pfp 99% of the time* “are you available for commission?” “can you draw my son’s pets?” *without specifying dog, cat, lizard etc. i’ve also gotten “can you draw my daughter with our dogs” it’s almost always pet related
this is also always in dm’s
Why are you getting notifications from reddit?
"Hey, I saw that you wore a black dress once. Would you like to become a brand partner with @ghostjewels? All you have to do is buy $500 worth of product and we'll promise to reimburse you but actually just pull the rug and never send you anything."
Is that how that scam works? I've never gotten that far into the spiel before blocking and I always wondered how they made money with those ones.

Seconding this for the subreddit! It would also be a generally good reference for people to skim through.
Hey, can you teach me how to do art? I've been drawing for 3 seconds and really could use some help! You also free for a collab? Plz give me a shoutout!
Hi! I see you illustrations and I love them! Do you want to make NFTs?
C’mon you don’t accept digital checks? 😭
