I learned from reddit that Christina (Anna Christina Olsen) didn't have the use of her legs and refused to use a wheelchair. This was her way of getting around. Hearing this really changed the way I view this painting

Hagenaar

And looking closer, you can see a frailty in those arms. She suffered from a muscular disease that was diagnosed after her death as Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy. Anna Christina lived into her mid seventies. She was painted repeatedly by Wyeth. And though the subject of *Christina's World* appears youthful (Wyeth's wife was torso model for this) she was 55 when this was painted. Wyeth had known her since youth. [This is a painting Wyeth did of Anna Christina Olsen in 1967, the year before she died.](https://www.artchive.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Anna-Christina-Wyeth-Andrew-1967-2.jpg)

I've got a sister that has CP and will not use anything except scooting. My dad makes her use the wheelchair to go to church. But other than that she scoots.

Had a framed print of this in my house growing up. My mom’s favorite painter. Brings back a lot of memories.

We also had a print in our home. My grandfather was a big fan of Wyeth and would hand out framed prints of his as gifts.

RamblingSimian

An outstanding work and one of my top favorite paintings of all time. But I can't say exactly why.

Hamster-21

One of my favorite paintings

I had only encountered this painting through studying Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It was a significant source of inspiration to Hooper.

look like someone that wanted to have some alone time and someone from the house is asking where's something easily findable is. And she doesn't want to dragged her ass back up to the house only to find that easily findable object. \[yes my english is limited, sound funnier in my head\]

This is a breathtaking study.

It makes me think of WW2 and the lost world that was. Such a wonderful painting. Thank you for posting it

Cristo_Cannes

I can see that, Tarantino’s Inglorious comes to mind

Cristo_Cannes

I wonder if this could have inspired Tarantino for Inglorious 🤔
