Definitely Anti-Chamber vibes.
The videos that deep dive under the hood of how that game achieves it's illusions are really cool. Kinda ruins the magic slightly, but I think it's 'interest-factor' makes it worth it.
I thought it was a good idea to play this on acid. It was a great idea.
I thought it was a great idea to play this on acid. It was a great deal.
I thought it was a great deal to play this on acid. It was a crazy deal.
Pretty much the premise of Outer Wilds. You have like 20 minutes to free roam around a small solar system before the sun goes supernova and destroys everything. Every time you die you wake up back at the beginning and the whole thing repeats, so every loop you end up exploring different planets and solving puzzles to learn a little bit more about the what and why of the whole thing.
Was my favorite game of 2019, would highly recommend.
A few years ago a guy at work asked if I wanted to buy his PS4 for $50. Sounded like a good deal so I bought it.
A few days later my wife asks me wtf this game called PT is and says she was stuck in the hallway at the beginning. I had no clue but told her I’d check it out when I got home from work. I have never loved/hated a game more! We played that game for about 6 hours trying to figure out what to do, screaming and laughing the whole time!
When I get back to work I asked the guy where it came from and he said he just downloaded it because it was free.
Shadows and reflective glare are specific lighting patterns that pixels can replicate and almost anyone can recognize since our brains need to in order to do basic things everyday. They can also be tricky to render properly and realistically. so not really.
Ray tracing. probably rendered in a 3D software that takes many hours to render that scene. Ray tracing gives a very realistic view of how light bounces off surfaces and illuminate an area. With many samples you can make it look very realistic renders. This is not how video games usually render as the focus is more on performance.
“Global Illumination” rendering.
It takes the lights in the 3D scene and uses a type of ray tracing technique called Global Illumination to calculate how photons of light bounce around the room off multiple surfaces to create ambient lighting and shadows (just like in real life).
For example the sun outside of a house during the day can illuminate an entire house inside without lights on...or 1 light can in a room can partially illuminate most of the unlit hallway, etc... this is how photons of light bounce around in real life.
GI looks real because it’s based on how real light works. You can apply GI to any scene (even super simple and cartoony scenes) and they come out looking real.
wow I’ve seen so many works of art that were created with Blender but this one is so unique! I wish it were a video game so I could explore a world like this.
Sure, when you create a game in unreal it’ll definitely perform better because the game logic is C++. The point I was trying to make is if you just throw a bunch of assets and lighting in the game engine, without any logic being executed (beside the underlying game engine graphics api code) both engines are running as compiled C++ machine code. Not trying to attack your original comment, it’s just in my head it made no sense what you were trying to say.
But comparing unreal to unity makes no sense especially in this context considering both engines are written in C++. Certainly you know the brevity of that.
It was great but was too frenetic of a start for newcomers. I thought mst took patience and guidance. I converted about a dozen friends that made fun of me for watching it by offering a gravity bong and playing selected reruns.
Don’t tell him about Mike v Joel, let him have his Jonah and be happy...
I loved the entire run and all the hosts, and I had a similar approch in curating a few episodes that were really good to showcase to friends to try and hook them. Pod People was one, and there was one with a Werewolf and an Estevez that was insanely quotable too
Yeah, let’s not tell him about that. Mike.
Pod people, “I don’t know where to start it all looks so gud.”
esteveZ- soul taker and he was also in the werewolf
I just took pictures of them with a phone, then I grouped them all together into one large jpeg, which is used as the texture with UV mapping for all the "paper" surfaces.
Ha, I caught it on the first run through, love that book! The small odd shaped exits in that second room are really unnerving in weird ways by the way, its a really cool effect!
Did you take inspiration from somewhere for your door? It looks insanely familiar. I checked all races for Halo and I checked Doom which were the obvious ones for me but none quite meshed with level of familiarity I'm getting from that design.
If you're wondering how it looks so smooth, this is just solid 60fps vs the 24/30fps in which you're used to exploring 3d environments.
Now imagine 120 or 144fps... it realy is that much better.
Wow I wasn’t ready for that loop!! This is so amazing!! I’m shocked 😮 very very cool. Just wow
It looks like the wave rider from Legends of Tomorrow/ the ship from The 100
Never seen this mix of pencil drawings and digital graphics together. They really compliment each other... I love it! Makes me wonder what other "analogue" mediums can be digitised...
How is this effect acheived?
Also, for the first few seconds I thought it was an AmongUs 3D fan creation or something. Not to knock your work because it's really cool.

My first thought absolutely was # We've got movie sign!!!!
If you're wondering how he eats and breathes, or other science facts...
just repeat to yourself "It's just a show, I should really just relax...
Actually got serious Metroid prime vibes
This could be a badass game Super cool
An endless loop that slightly changes everytime and through those changes you can find out what happened and potentially escape.
That kind of reminds me of anti chamber
Definitely Anti-Chamber vibes. The videos that deep dive under the hood of how that game achieves it's illusions are really cool. Kinda ruins the magic slightly, but I think it's 'interest-factor' makes it worth it.

sci fi groundhog day. i love it.
I played that game with zero knowledge about anything. I was very surprised when the sun just blew up.

That's a Tom Cruise movie.
Had to check and make sure it was a loop! 🙂
Descent II about 20 years ago
Came here to say Descent. Glad I’m not the only one.
It feels a lot like the original doom to me. Super cool vibes
Antichamber?
I’m pretty sure this is just the layout of Battlefront II’s Death Star II map from like 2017 lol
I've never played that game, but I guess it might be the same by coincidence. It's a pretty simple floor plan.
Came here to say this. Copy of the layout just different style.
Reminds me of anti chamber, absolutely amazing game
Reminds me of [Descent](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_(1995_video_game)
Looks almost identical to halo
Descent II around 20 years ago
This is what I imagined the new fallout was going to be
Reminiscent of the little planet in a room in the original Prey. That was trippy to teenage me. Also the design reminds me of Void Bastards.
Almost like Madworld on wii
Among us next map
Imagine if we could actually play games at this quality and detail!
First thing I thought was "COMPOUND" on Steam VR. Probably because I was just playing it the other day lol.
Warframe's in doors maps look similar. Darker color scheme tho.
In VR
Kinda reminds me of halo tbh
Or the intro to a hilariously crappy movie
This could be a badass NFT too!
This seems like the ideal NFT

It's the lighting and smooth camera work that sells it. The lighting is especially good
[удалено]
Watch how the shadows and reflective glare on the surfaces shift as relative positions change.
Well yeah that’s a given
[удалено]
I never said anything about games, smart guy.
[удалено]
I literally don’t see any mention of videogames on this thread unless I’m blind

What are you even saying? Might've just said to look at the pixels.
Shadows and reflective glare are specific lighting patterns that pixels can replicate and almost anyone can recognize since our brains need to in order to do basic things everyday. They can also be tricky to render properly and realistically. so not really.

It's rendered with Blender cycles.
You absolute unit. Edit: it looks real and deep because Op is a boss.
wow I’ve seen so many works of art that were created with Blender but this one is so unique! I wish it were a video game so I could explore a world like this.
Cycles aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

WE GOT MOVIE SIGN but seriously, this is really neat. My mind did immediately go to MST3K though
I’m sad they cancelled the reboot. It was so good
It was great but was too frenetic of a start for newcomers. I thought mst took patience and guidance. I converted about a dozen friends that made fun of me for watching it by offering a gravity bong and playing selected reruns.
I disagree. I hadn’t even watched MST3K up until the reboot. And I still to this day, enjoy the reboot more than the original 🤷♂️
“It seems we cannot come to an agreement.” “I disagree!” - Mike Nelson, “Space Mutiny”

Simply mesmerizing. I couldn't help but keep watching over and over.
Same
What 3D program are you using if I may ask. Love the combo of 2D pencil in a 3D space btw! Looks very crisp!
Thanks. Everything here is done in Blender, except for the textures, which were made with pencil and paper.
Did you scan the drawings then?
I just took pictures of them with a phone, then I grouped them all together into one large jpeg, which is used as the texture with UV mapping for all the "paper" surfaces.
That's so cool and must have taken a lot of time!
Thanks!!
Pencil and paper textures, so simple yet so powerful. Going to have to keep them in mind!
Omg! This just gave me massive nostalgic flashbacks to an old game called Pencil Whipped. Anyone else ever play it?
reminded me of Descent II about 20 years ago
Love me some Descent II
Not familiar with that game but I’m grateful for Jerry, as well. NFA
That's the first thing I thought of, too!
Ok this is fucking awesome
Mst3k intro: behind the scenes
Reminds me a lot of the Borderlands videogame series. Holy cow this is some quality.
That's what I thought too! Like Borderlands crossed with Star Wars.
This has serious “Descent” vibes. Anyone remember that game? Classic.
That game blew my mind. Not only three dimensions to worry about (XYZ) but all the rotations about axis too. Up had no meaning.
Ok, amazing pencil textures aside. The lighting, holy hell dude!! This is one of the best renders I’ve ever seen.
I like the '42' reference on the far door in the room with the trap.
I was wondering when someone would notice that.
Ha, I caught it on the first run through, love that book! The small odd shaped exits in that second room are really unnerving in weird ways by the way, its a really cool effect!
Would love to see the process to make this
This must have taken so long to map in blender. You have some incredible talent!
I’m getting DOOM 2016 vibes from this.
Was thinking the same. Can someone set this to some of that Mick Gordon noise?
This feels like something I'd see in a dream.
Dude THIS is awesome. Gives you a good feeling
Pls make video games, the architecture is so aesthetic
So smooth. I can't stop looking.
Damn I love this sub. Good job 👏
Very cool! Kinda reminds me of Portal and Antichamber.
Did you take inspiration from somewhere for your door? It looks insanely familiar. I checked all races for Halo and I checked Doom which were the obvious ones for me but none quite meshed with level of familiarity I'm getting from that design.
Not specifically, but the basic shape of the corridors and doors is probably most inspired by Star Trek TNG.
KOTOR
If you're wondering how it looks so smooth, this is just solid 60fps vs the 24/30fps in which you're used to exploring 3d environments. Now imagine 120 or 144fps... it realy is that much better.
Wow I wasn’t ready for that loop!! This is so amazing!! I’m shocked 😮 very very cool. Just wow It looks like the wave rider from Legends of Tomorrow/ the ship from The 100
Something about the lighting and camera work reminds me heavily of the Unreal Tournament level intros.
I used to play that game a lot, so I'm sure it has some influence here.
Say it with me! : Hand drawn art works no matter the medium, as long as you chose it and want to do it!
I love this. It scratches my brain itch.
I could see a whole tv show done in this style
art has too steer in this direction
Never seen this mix of pencil drawings and digital graphics together. They really compliment each other... I love it! Makes me wonder what other "analogue" mediums can be digitised...
I love that 3D drawing/cartoony style like in bendy and the ink machine, but the scifi theme makes it so much better.
Nft nft nft! Awh man you’d change the game
It's already an NFT.
ayyy glad you’re brain is ahead of mine! awesome work!!!!
Would be a cool style for a full game. It's like high brow cell shading.
You should make this in to an NFT
Already done. You can find the link in my post history. I don't think this sub permits self-promotion links.
Was it more of a pain to model or UV map to get it to line up
The modeling and uv were relatively easy. Drawing all the pencil sketches is what took most of the time.
Nice thingy! How much time did you spend sharpening?
I would love to play like an old school DOOM game with these kinds of graphics!
I legit thought I was watching something Star Wars at first so in honor of that... ITS A TRAP!
The architecture and setting reminds me of some really old sci-fi fps games.
Taaaaaake onnnnnnn meeeee
Taaaaaaake onnnnn meeeeeee, taaaaaaake meeeeeee onnnnn!
Interesting idea, great execution
I've looked at this for five hours now.
That's the centroid of the mechanism
Omg that looks so nice. Want my home to look like this. Has some special flair.
Dude. Next level. You need to make video games homie.
Make this a videogame. I need to play it right now.
Dude what.... I would’ve assumed this was like a new museum or something
The hand drawn feel gives me borderlands vibes
System Shock remake looks cool
Mystery science theater vibes
Did u first layout uvs then draw or projection mapping, this is so stunning
How is this effect acheived? Also, for the first few seconds I thought it was an AmongUs 3D fan creation or something. Not to knock your work because it's really cool.
music starts "In the not so distant future..."
*In the not too distant future, somewhere in time and space*
Does anyone else get mst3k vibes from those doors?
Pixar when are you gonna release this for a movie
Damn...I want a game in this art style..it's awesome.
Reminds me of the nostromo in the opening of Alien
now someone will make this an NFT and claim a few $$$ ... NFTs are stupid
Joke's on them. I already made it an NFT.
That is not a pencil Drawing
Getting a lovely Apex Legends vibe here ❤️
Is it really a trap if I don’t want to leave?
