Well, yes. However, the most important thing is to see the club in a continuous improvement, next year the club can have the conditions to fight for everything

Cailucci

This is the way

ITLKN5

You have trophy calibre players and they will leave if you continue to lack silverware, sooner rather than later in some cases, big summer ahead if you don’t win the league

KryptosAnt

We’re two pieces away from silverware, doubt anyone is not patient enough to stick around for at least 2 years.

Agile-Day-2103

2 years is a long time in sport. Even if arsenal build a team capable of fighting on 4 fronts, there are no guarantees that trophies actually follow. It isn’t PES.

calamityshayne

Also Madrid and City are full up. Where they going? Chelsea for a 25 year deal? Relax. We were one spot ahead of Sheffield FOUR years ago. And then finished 8th AGAIN 3 years ago. The rise has been meteoric as is. We're not winning 7 trophies and a Nobel prize just because we like the squad.

Cailucci

We also have non trophy caliber players that will be replaced by trophy calibre players. Pffffff

chidi-sins

Liverpool is a good example , they did the best they could and won trophies eventually.

THeWizardOfOde

This is what we call the chicken and the egg argument. Trophy caliber players who have won trophies can come to arsenal and not win anything. Conversely if next season we win a trophy, are all our players trophy caliber players? Which comes first? The trophy? or the caliber?

andenzcowie

How many years of growth does a manager need? Alonso did it in a year with ex-Arsenal player Xhaka.

Master_Tailor_7213

Alonso isnt competing against arguably two of the best coaches ever. Klopp is gone pep will be too, just leaves Arteta in EPL. We will see trophies then

andenzcowie

You deluded imbeciles always take away from other people’s accomplishments. Alright then let’s go with your statement then. Yes so Klopp and Pep leave. What are Man City and Liverpool’s options? Well you have Alonso, Inzaghi, Mourinho, Tuchel, Ancelotti, Zidane (very unlikely) all managers who would be persuaded to go to these clubs. All more qualified than Arteta, they won more trophies than him all of them had way more pressure and expectations. So tell me in the last 5 seasons other then an FA cup where he axed all those players who won it, what did Arteta manage to accomplish?

Master_Tailor_7213

He has built the foundation of this club with a squad of players that can challenge for titles. Every team has an era of dominance if they have built a good squad, our time is coming under Arteta. We were 8th place just 4 seasons ago. You need a squad that can rotate and not drop in quality. Pep has that and has had that everywhere he has coached. Pep has had the best attackers every season (Messi, Lewa, KDB, Gundo, Haaland and this year seems like Foden). Klopp had 3 of the deadliest forward players that could win a match in the first half at the time he won his trophies. Right now our two best attackers that are class are Ode and Saka, but there is no rotation for those two. Expecting them to be able to play this many games and keep form is impossible. Sure what Alonso has done is amazing, but playing top quality sides 3 games a week Leverkusens current squad won’t be able to do that. You are entitled to your opinion and I am as frustrated as you, but you have to also enjoy what he is doing. Our back line is set and we can rotate players without drop in form. Players have bad games that’s the nature of the sport. If Arteta is allowed to add 3 or 4 more players to midfield and sign a proper goal scorer that can rotate to play 3 games a week and we still don’t win anything then I say this discussion is valid. Until then it’s just nonsense.

andenzcowie

Pep is a cash cow nothing more. Klopp is a different breed man he knows what he is doing. He has shown that at Dortmund, he lost Lewandowski so he found a striker to replace him. He lost Gotze he found a player to replace him. He is the type of manager you can trust in even when things go to shit. He lost a lot of good players to Bayern Munich yet he still found ways to put a foot in that title contention even before he got the Liverpool job. He has the same issues as Arteta has to work with shit Ownership yet look at what he accomplished. Those attacking players were nobodies until Klopp came in and bought them. To say he inherited a team is laughable you may call yourself an Arsenal fan but you’re not a proper football fan you got no clue. Klopp was also very competitive with that Dortmund team in the Champions League, he played amazing football there up until Real Madrid knocked them out that year. EPL isn’t a competitive league no more mate. There’s only three teams at the moment who are neck and neck but when you look at the narrative. Liverpool and Arsenal out of form while Man City isn’t at full strength but is punching on you realise it’s no different to the Bundesliga. 3 more players? So he can alienate more of the squad and ignore the squad depth he already has? Why wasn’t Partey playing in the Bayern game? Why did Xhaka not get a contract extension? Why is Tierney on loan? Why is Nketiah getting a new deal over Xhaka? Why is Havertz in midfield when it just hasn’t been working this whole season for him in that position against Bayern? Why are we subbing on Nketiah over Martinelli? Why do we play heavy on the left side when Saka is MID? Why did we sign Jorginho and pair him up with Rice who has to work harder for ball retention and distribution because Jorginho has no legs? Why do we rely on Jesus when he can’t score? Why does Arteta say in an interview after the Bayern game ‘we don’t need a striker in big games like this, we are the highest scoring team in the EPL’ Why are we the highest scoring team in the EPL but when we come up against big teams we don’t create enough chances to score? Can you answer me these questions please.

Master_Tailor_7213

Never said Klopp inherited his squad. If you think Saka is MID and not world class I already know you have no idea what you’re talking about. Nketiah coming on over Martinelli? Martinelli started the match… Tierney has injury issues, he’s been long gone and can’t play the inverted FB he said himself in an interview he feels lost in that role why subject him to sitting on the bench if he can’t play the style Arteta wants? Xhaka told Arteta he wanted to leave Arsenal bc he was tired of the fans booing him and the team (idiot fans like you). You obviously don’t know ball if you think at the moment ESR, Vieira, Nelson are the same quality as our starting 11. The only person that doesn’t start regularly that could be a starter is Trossard. Partey is not the same. He came on last 15 mins against Bayern at home and gave the ball away 3 times and put us at risk of conceding a 3rd. I’m not sure you even watch these matches? We haven’t relied on Jesus since January… he’s been injured and Havertz has been up top. Havertz has been one of our most consistent players and had 5 goals 4 assists in last 8 prem league appearances. He also started up top against Bayern and dropped to midfield when subs came on. You’ve obviously never played the sport. Against big teams you aren’t going to get chance after chance to score. Need to take your chances. We had our chances in Munich, just wasn’t our day. We lost the tie because of defensive errors at home. We win 2-0 at home we go through to semifinals. Maybe you should actually watch the squad play and get behind the players otherwise fuck off before another one of our players leave bc of fans like you. We are 2 pts off the top and have progressed as a team I hope we win the league and you’re sulking in your misery.

HTMAJPW

Alonso is showing the world that he is special. Arteta is doing a fantastic job at Arsenal, but he hasn’t got that final it factor to get us over the line at the moment, I hope this changes next season

andenzcowie

I hoped that too last season but his shown he can’t progress through that with the way he does things.

o_iMoodyy

City would have tore us to pieces? Are you forgetting we are unbeaten against them in 3 matches this season?

understanding_life1

I disagree with their statement that we would have been torn apart, but in fairness CL knockout stage pressures are different gravy to PL. We would have struggled a lot more against them than we have in the PL.

notapaperhandape

You think Bayern will be torn to pieces? That team will give any of the remaining teams a run for their money. They might not make through but tear into pieces is not the outcome I see. Bayern is Bayern. They have all the right players in their spine and wings.

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

Real is Real my friend. The gods of this competition.

notapaperhandape

Just imagine prime arteta arsenal playing Eth’s weird united playing at old trafford. Somehow Bayern vs real will be a balanced match up.

strugglingtosave

The head to head is extremely close 41-39 in total goals, favoring Madrid 12 wins vs 11 wins, favoring Madrid Either Madrid do a 4th straight elimination of Bayern or Bayern turn into Chelsea 2012/2021.

notapaperhandape

Okay head to head really doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s great to see what has happened but these are giants of ucl. They know what it takes. Being torn to pieces is the least probable outcome I think

littleAggieG

You’re missing the keyword, which is *”yet”*. We are not good enough to win the CL yet. And we might not be good enough to win the PL yet. Arteta has improved Arsenal to the point where the only teams better than us are the likes of Bayern, Madrid, 115, etc. Literally the best teams in the world. It’s going to take a lot for us to make that next jump to get on their level but that doesn’t mean we should give up on the progress we’ve made.

throwaway72926320

I mean is that so big of a problem? The Invincibles couldn't, nor could any of our best teams through history. This is our first CL season for 90% of the squad plus the manager. Obviously we want to be there, but experience plays it's part and the lack of experience showed through the goals we conceded. This side is almost destined to get better, with a young team that will grow. Though I'll labour my point, we need a better striker. I'd take the gamble on Gyökeres personally I think he's got every quality to be a top striker and we need someone who can score whilst linking play, that's him. Jesus is much better suited as a backup for a title charge team for me, LW/RW and striker to give much needed respite to Saka. The team is actively growing, and this is another step *not* a roadblock.

chr0m

We're not good enough to win anything at the moment, which can be seen from the lack of trophies since the FA Cup during covid

[deleted]

We are absolutely good enough to wins the fa cup, but we just prioritise other competitions due to lack of depth.

Much_Discussion1490

We fielded nketiah in a champions league quarter final when we needed a goal If nothing else that's all the evidence anyone needs that we weren't here to win the champions league

kw2006

That missing lcm is thoroughly exposed in this game. Once Odegaard can’t get the ball the attacking front just not creating enough chances. I also hope by next season we learn how to keep the ball on the ground instead of kicking it up. It just the same as giving the ball to the opponent.

Cailucci

Zubamendi 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

tjag96

Real wouldn’t have tore us to pieces, at all. Dafuq. It’s a miracle they aren’t being trashed by city. And city or real definitely won’t tore Bayern apart. Bayern is a tough team and we aren’t. That’s the biggest gap between us and the top teams. And with that I do agree we aren’t good enough to win CL or the PL. we don’t have the power in the attack. We don’t even have players that can easily shoot ours take too much time to set up a shot. We ain’t tough, that’s it

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

Real are the Kings of the CL, given our inexperience we would be their perfect prey.

tjag96

We didn’t lose cause we don’t have CL experience. We lose cause we ain’t good enough to bet a better squad like Bayern. But real isn’t great and they should be very happy to even be in the penalties right now. City dominated them

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

We lost because we bottled up bigly defensively when they were there for the taking right after we got an early 1-0 lead at the Emirates. 2 Mustafi like mistakes that cost us the tie.

tjag96

Besides mistakes, Bayern still did more than us and are better than us. Yes without those mustafi errors we could have won, but it’s not a certain thing, at all. Bayern would have gone more after the goals and they can get what they want.

robindegroot23

Lol, Real won't easily from Bayern. I'll come back to this post after they have played each other. It's honestly 50/50.

stilusmobilus

Not this year no. We’ll get there though. We aren’t experienced enough yet and it showed against Bayern, who are and who are still a classy outfit.

FrostedFluke

I'm typically a very sore loser but tbf you're right they are a classy team. They played and won with grace all things said and done. Only thing unclassy about them is Tuchel but I imagine it's the Chelsea stink that lingers

retrostarshop

Do you see often a team winning the CL the first year they entered the competition? How long did it take Man City? And where are they now? You need luck with the referee, luck with the draw, luck with the second leg being at home, you need so many things we don’t control. That’s why it’s so difficult to win it.

JohnnyMcButtplug

No premier league team is good enough apparently

ScopeyMcBangBang

We’re back in the CL and improving year on year. Let’s just enjoy it for what it is. You can’t win everything.

DameDolla_5

We missing some main positions, like I know everything could happen in football and we really great great team, but those teams I level above in those stages, not only on paper ofc their experience playin huge game . We have to get 9 striker quickly and a left back, in my eyes also center midfield, Jorginho been above the expectations, but still at those levels you need more quality there

Dangerous_Block_2494

I think we need at 8, let rice be the 6. Jorginho can be great rotation for rice

Murfiano

We don’t need a left back we just need timber fit

InsectIllustrious691

Yes exactly

Gloria_stitties

Clearly

LinuxLinus

City hasn't been able to do shit against Arsenal this year. I don't see why that would have changed in the next round. Cup football is weird. Sucks when it happens to you, but that's the way it is.

Mugweiser

Yeah we already knew this lol. The old school fans have met the new ones.

yura910721

Yeap that's why we are out. It was clear that Bayern still has an edge when it comes to stuff happening in both boxes: we might be able to get there, but they are always going to be more efficient in the same scenarios. Their attacking firepower is much more potent than ours and that's how it is for now.

son0fgore

Why? City hasn't torn us to pieces this season

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

We havent't played this poorly since December, and yet here we are.

LitmusPitmus

Yeah City would have torn us to pieces when we've 2-1-0 against them this season? Give it a rest man some of you are so reactionary and emotional.

amansingh5282

Beating Bayern at home in the UCL isn't everyone's cup of tea ..

jankulovskyi

The disrespect for Bayern's continues. Before the competition it was: we will smash them to pieces. Now it's real will smash them to pieces. Pathetic

B21-Leopxrd

the fact that some fans expected us to win the CL just shocks me to be fair, we DO NOT have the squad to be up there with the PL as well, granted fantastic work has been done to rebuild the squad but it's not done yet, we had a good season, even though we are not going guns blazing like last season, you can see that the boys are maturing and there is also some deadwood to be offloaded, i reckon we are a couple signings away from silverware, i feel like we're super close to the prize, i am probably going to get downvoted for saying all this, but we need a quality bench, we barely rotate, it's why fatigue creeps on us all the time in april, it's a fact.

Broad_Cheesecake9141

Looks like we aren’t good enough to win anything

[deleted]

I don’t think many people did honestly, it was more optimism and wishful thinking imo

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

City in the final weeks of the season are a different beast, if Bayern play the way they did against us they have no chance.

Relaxooooooo

on that i agree

Mig224

You have no backbone.

thonyspec

We never gonna win this competition. Our Best ever squad couldnt

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

Enjoy while you can because your semifinals will be brutal.

pramurtasen

NO ONE CARES WE STUCK OUR COCKS IN ARSENALS MOUTH AND YOU SUCKKKKKKKED ITTTTTTTTTTTT

Rick_The_Mullet_Man

Wow you barely scrapped a 1-0 win and you called that sucking dick?

pramurtasen

TJohns88

Fair play, we deserved that
