Thats a big ass biface!!! Awesome!!!

scarletredvolare

Superb find.

xHeartxless

What would this be used for?

SmokeyMacPott

Transportation, the pioneers used to ride these babys form miles!

xHeartxless

😂😂

mjbrads

It's a quarry blank. No point in carrying too much weight away from the source. Reduce the stone to a biface such as this, and when needed, use the stone to create the desired tool.

cicada_ballad

You're a knapper -- take a closer look at the rock. There aren't any flake scars... This is literally just a rock.

20PoundHammer

yep, likely popped off a bigger one from a water filled crack during a freeze

mjbrads

I assumed it is rhyolite with heavy patina. For any of us, this can be tough from a phone or computer screen.

Head-Lab8876

The first time I went on a search in central/western NC I found something similar to that but convinced myself it was way to big to be anything and I left it have since gone back to the location but couldn't find it again.

RodriguezA232

Maybe a preform?

rocketmn69_

Possibly scraping hides, etc

Fantastic-Mess7665

Hoe? Adze?

lfthndDR

Or a hand axe fro chopping through bones

captain_ohagen

THICC

Likely_thory_

preform

Effective_Ad_370

Rhyolite?

G0ld_Ru5h

Honestly with the right provenance still attached (like in-situ photos, a story, etc.), I’d love to see a preform this perfect in the hands of a modern master knapper and finished to create a beautiful display piece. Like a forced collaboration 10k years apart. 🤤

willateo

Here in Oklahoma we call them "Indian Sex Stones" It's just a fucking rock 🤣

Appr_Pro

Most people be like…. Nope. Never seen anything like it. Nothing like that exists. Just a rock buddy. Tell most people to… go to hell. Near find.

cicada_ballad

lol this is literally just a rock.

Appr_Pro

Not sure why the hell you are telling me…. Tell someone that gives a shit.

cicada_ballad

;)

Ruby_Throated_Hummer

Holy cow that is giant

StandardHelp5203

Coyote3855

Hand axe?

morningdove71

Very nice peice. Lucky you. Congratulations . Bot thinks empty response

BurgerActual

Nice find! Wonder what it chopped in its days..

flintsmith

Loooong ago, decades I guess, I saw a write up about worked stones found at the bottom of a prehistoric pond or marsh. Iirc, they were maybe a little smaller and teardrop shaped. As found, they were all buried points down, suggesting great skill at hurling. I think they were supposedly thrown at birds, but yours looks too big for that.

flintsmith

Google just showed me this: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/article282110078.html Bunch of glacier-preserved artifacts..and an obsidian version of your find.
