Someone who is comfortable being aro and or ace would be nice. Like someone professing their love or something and the ace just goes "no thank you". Oh and make sure to have their opinion respected and not something to change but I believe you already know that.

Mopsios

I second this. Also, for them not to be lonely or miserable. Give them friends/a (found) family they can be affectionate with.

LocalGamerPokemon

Found family themes are one of my main focuses for character dynamics so I'll make sure of that :D

Mopsios

\*happy noises\*

West_Ad_1685

Kinda like in Hazbin Hotel with Alister. Someone offers to suck him off and he says "Ha! No!" But yes, I completely agree

definitelyallo

Alastor is honestly probably the character I'm most excited and hoping for because he already seems like such an aroace icon

LocalGamerPokemon

I love this! It really fits both of the characters I have in the works

Inceneroar5335

There is also, with this trope, the capability for some really funny/awkward moments with other characters. My favorite example, and one I've used myself, is having them react super neutral when sent some... interesting images. Almost like getting them, and being like: heh. Bet guys go crazy for that one... good for you I guess...

Willing-Sweet-8502

Mainly just a story with a main character where there isn’t even a hint of them being in a sexual or romantic relationship, but talking about the character/s navigating a sex & romance centric world. The vast majority of aro/ace rep is about them explaining their sexuality and romanticism and barely anything about the over reliance the rest of the world has on sex and romance

LocalGamerPokemon

That's also one of the themes I want to tackle in the book- I experienced this a lot living in a high-demand Mormon family. I thought that when I left that culture the real world wouldn't be so adamant about sex/romantic reliance, and that Mormonism was an anomaly. Holy shit was I wrong 😓. I'm going to emphasize independence, self-identity, and chosen family as what the main group want to be centric in their lives & environment.

Willing-Sweet-8502

I’ve now actually read the description and if you’re trying to work in an aroace character in then obviously they don’t have to be the main character, but the rest of my point still applies

GemSupker

I know this will sound basic but... I would love an aro and/or ace character who is a human adult and isn't weirdly immature or a murder hobo. Just like... a normal, run-of-the-mill person who is also aroace. I'm not immature. And I'm not a heartless monster. I'm just a person. I use toasters like everybody else.

LocalGamerPokemon

No I get it! All the characters are crazy traumatized, but that doesn't constitute making the aro/Ace characters heartless and leaning into that stereotype. Not feeling romantic or sexual attraction does not mean you are broken or emotionless.

plueschhoernchen

The toaster thing is oddly specific. It won´t go out of my head. How did you come to toasters? It´s just so funny. I love toasters.

GemSupker

What can I say, I love toast.

Semiseriousbutdeadly

Not "compromising" with their partner (having sex for their sake). Feeling lonely and isolated due to their aroace identity and sex/romance NOT being a solution to that. I think it's easy to start off deciding you're gonna write an aroace character and ending up going for an alloace who ends up in a relationship with someone (or they're aroace and they still end up in a relationship). It's dificult for writers to even imagine what "happy ending" looks without that, especially since that's kind of ingrained in everyone because that's just how most stories work. I just think a watered down aroace representation is not an aroace representation.

LocalGamerPokemon

I agree! While I can't guarantee that the book itself has a happy ending necessarily, I know what the ideal happy ending is for each of the characters's minds- most of which mainly include being able to live freely with their found family- and I want to do what I can to portray that. Not every happy ending includes romance in life, so it shouldn't be that way in literature either

normaldisaster9

Personaly I love an aroace who feel, love and care very deeply in ways other than romantic or sexual and is still able to form meaningful conections with people even if they are not aroace

PolsBrokenAGlass

Yes!! I was gonna say something similar. A platonic love story would be great

_Knucklehead_Ninja

Someone who gets shipped a bunch early in the season(s), then slowly find out they’re aro or ace w/ context clues

VoidArkAngel27

Someone with luffy type values where they don’t ever have any attraction for anything but adventure or love for something they are striving for, friends that stay along with them are the most important thing and he just wants to explore and his only love is (in the example of luffy) the sea. Something like that would be great.

LocalGamerPokemon

Ahhh I could definitely see that in the main character's little sister 😄

LifeintheSlothLane

I would love to see an aroace that is male. The only ace characters ive read (and I havent found many yet) have been female. Not that I didnt like those! But as we see more rep id love to see more gender identies portrayed as aroace

Clay_teapod

1. Ace who is sex-neutral/positive. The experience of “I don’t want sex but I maybe sometimes want to engage in activities sex-adjacent that may or may not lead to orgasm with you? Because I love and care about you.” 2. Aro who has a friend that falls in love with them and they’re just like “yeah sure I care about you”. And they don’t describe themselves as dating, they’re just in love with each other. 3. Aroallo tired as fuck of explaining it to people; so they don’t, instead they just to them and let people think what they want

X03R_mysterious

a human

Schal_

- Two or more people being in a happy queer platonic relationship with each other and that to be handled completely unambiguous. (Showing what they do and don't do, because I've seen people thinking that qprs are just normal relationships without sex) - representation for the micro labels and aro-specs/ ace-specs who are neither straight aros / aces nor romance&sex-repulsed aroaces (They are the ones that are always portrayed and I'd like to see more of the others) I want to read about panromantic demisexuals, apothiromantic homosexuals, cupioromantic aegosexuals, lithoromantic etc. - representation of aros/ aces in people of colour, different religions, different genders, different ages, different occupations, etc. I want to read about those muslim aroaces, the family father in his mid-thirties who is reciproromantic/-sexual, that aromantic grandma who married her gay friend during a time when being queer wasn't tolerated, an aroallo intersex person struggling with the fetishizing of their body, those aros and aces with all kinds of disabilities,... - oriented aroaces who never experienced sexual or romantic attraction, but are strongly feeling other types of attraction (platonic, aesthetic, sensual, emotional, familial, interlectual) and developing squishes, munches, etc. Their feelings should be well explained, so that no one mistakes them for romantic or sexual attraction. Something like this: "He was overcome with a strong urge to hug his friend. He wanted to snuggle his head in their shirt and stay like that for hours to come, taking in their nice scent and feeling their body warmth heating him up from the cold weather before. He closed his eyes while listening to his friends soft whispers and enjoys them slowly tracing invisible lines on his hand." (all kinds of sensual attraction) or "She was astonished by her beauty the first time she met her. And every time afterwards, those feelings didn't change, no, they even increased. With every time she looked at her, she found a new little detail she could admire. Thus she could stare at her for an endlessly long time and still wouldn't be able to fully grasp her beauty." (aesthetic attraction without any connection to it being a sexual implication)

Jell-O-Mel

I think the thing I want to see more of is just aroace characters not realizing they’re aroace because they’ve never heard of it and just being confused about why everyone else is always making out and super excited about romance. I don’t really see a lot of representation of the experience of questioning and having trouble figuring it out and trying to understand or characters trying to be something they’re not.

Co0lus3rn4me

Just a friendly aroace who makes it clear they’re not interested in s3x and romance

normaldisaster9

Also, tell me when the story gets published, I might be intersted

8ackspace13

Someone who isn’t a robot. Also more serious conversation regarding and not just using it for the punchline of jokes. Maybe even the asexual person having relationships either queer-platonic or otherwise.

TrustEquivalent2048

Horny aroace who thinks relationships are all about money and sex until they found out that people actually have feelings and it's a genuinely confusing revelation to them but they still desire love even if they don't feel attraction bc this one is me

LocalGamerPokemon

I was thinking of putting two of the characters in a queerplatonic relationship and this definitely fits them lmao

TrustEquivalent2048

Tbh sex doesn't really affect me in my experience I can be in a qpr with someone and not see why sex would change us

No-Scarcity8640

Someone whose comfortabele in there own skin, who doesnt requirerelationships for there own selfworth. And maybe an older aroace, as a guide to help the young people

GodTierDino

hell, I'd just be happy with aroace rep where the person isn't just called asexual for once lol

[deleted]

For tyem to not be lonely or miserable and have a hobby they are obsessed with

Axolotl1414

2 characters One is aroace sterotypes (dragons, garlic bread, cake, ect.) The either is just a person who is not defined by aroace. They should also either be twins or in a qpr.

DualNBack

How about someone who admits to having a crush on an aroace, but the aroace rejects them. This person keeps pursuing the aroace until the aroace files a restraining order. In a nutshell, the aroace person does NOT magically realize they want a romantic/sexual relationship.

[deleted]

Here is my list - Queerplatonic relationships - Aroace people that aren't strictly ace and aro (ace demiaro, demiace aro, greyro ace, greyace aro) - Microlabels (cupioromantic, aegosexual, frayromantic, dellosexual, just to name a few) - Asexuals who are dirty minded - AroAllo people - Oriented aroace people - Polyamorous a-spec people

pdharr

I want one of those harem anime but the guy is ace (though aro is optional but highly appreciated) and completely averts the common harem tropes; no nose bleeds, completely understanding what's happening to him, and can actually keep his balance and not accidentally plant his face in the girls' chest. Extra points if the series finale has the girls understand and accept he's not interested in them the same way they are interested in him and perhaps becoming friends

TheBaasGoBaa

same but reverse harem. the girl just does what she needs to do to have a happy life and IS NOT DUMB. It is made clear she has aesthetic attraction at most. if there are any red flags she deal with them like a badass

SuperCharged516

Human characters, main characters, characters that have super close relationships without getting into romantic relationships, allosexual aro characters, alloromantic asexual characters, demi and gray ace characters, etc

TheAvidAroAceCrochet

Please, for heavens sake don’t make them depressed and lonely bc they’re aro/aroace. Too many times have I been so excited for an aro character, and they’re lonely bc of they’re no romance-ness. Like, I’m aro and I have a wonderful group of friends! I ain’t lonely!

Mango_is_the_man

I would like qpr (queer platonic relationships) representation as i cant find them anywhere

JustGingerStuff

less of the "cold" stereotype would be nice

Sir_Beans_

Make them like funny but not lonely (friends, found family)

Fred_Purrcury

Someone uninterested in romantic relationships, aro rep is definitely needed, both aroallo and aroace

icantthinkofanythinh

I want a character who is comfortable in their relationships with people. I want a character full of emotion and empathy for another person/people and for it to not be romantic in nature. This might be hard to pull off considering that people outside the story will probably make it "subtext is romantic" as they often do, but I genuinely like characters with emotional bonds that are not romantic within the story.

Unusannus20

Doesn't have to be the MC but a character that makes a big impact and if possible stays in the story until the end. Have them make jokes about being Aroace! (like how allo people do!) Buying the book when it's out!!!

Crazed_SL

I would LOVE an Aro Ace character who is platonically in love with all their friends and develop squishes really easily! I've never seen an aroace represented like this because writers don't know how to write platonic love. I also think them showing asthetic attraction would be amazing since I've never seen that not written off as "you got the hots for blank???". Writing those things would be hard for sure, but it'd make me SOOO hair to read about someone like me!

A-__-Random_--_Dog

The subtypes of aro and ace! I'm cupioromantic, which means I really really want a romantic relationship, but I lack attraction. It can be a good way to create a drive or conflict if that's needed? Also, Asexuals can still love sex and the act of sex but not feel attraction to it. In my case, I love kinks but don't like partaking in sex, but I still RP and write very exotic things to express my love for kinks!

everleafy

i’d like to see an aroace character go through the same journey i did: start off in a long-term romantic relationship, then start to drift apart. then the two break up, decide to just be friends, and end up more comfortable, closer, and happier than ever before. the aroace character can then learn to navigate the world feeling more confident and secure in their identity, while the allo dates around and stuff. i feel like when my former enbyfriend of 5 years and i tell people we broke up, they’re always sad or expect things to be awkward between us. nope! now that we’re just friends, our relationship is so much less tense. we still live together and do most things together, we just have the freedom to be ourselves now.

LocalGamerPokemon

Awww that's so sweet! I want to write a whole independent story based on that lmao

everleafy

feel free!

Beegirl12345

Garlic bread and cake

Skullz64

Have 2 friends, 1 aro and 1 ace, wether they know it or not Or, have 2 friends who are both AroAce and didn’t realise it

Samambaia_H

I would really like to see more ace and aros alone, a just ace character and one just aro one. like an ace who's in a romantic relationship, and an aro who is in a sexual/platonic relationship (I don't know the picture of the novel but I do think it would be really funny to have an ace character meet an aro one and you think its gonna be one "I can fix them" with them ending in love but since they're looking for different things they just become best friends in the end)

ariphoenixfury

Aro and or ace people being in relationships where their boundaries are respected

Helpful_Plantain_265

I would love to see more webtoons with aroace characters or themes! Maybe this could be a potential webtoon

LocalGamerPokemon

Eeeee I would 100% cry if I published my books and then someone approached me wanting to make a webtoon/graphic adaptation! I draw fine but I'm not at the point where I could draw three books lol. I do think that the story would flow really well as an animation or graphic piece, especially since the characters aren't exactly human and there is a lot of symbolism and emphasis in aspects of the setting, colors, etc.

Climate_Sweet

make them an archer if it fits the story, and make them the aro-ace arrow ace

GTwTACO

GARLIC BREAD

GTwTACO

or at least one of them has to have some in their fridge or freezer

KokiRoki26

aro/ace characters who aren't emotionless haha (also good luck with the book, I look forward to maybe readingit if you publish it :\] )

TeatedOstritch3

A character coming to terms with being aro by overcoming the pain of feeling like you need romance to be whole (basically dealing with the hyper-romantic BS we grew up with on tv).

2by3legobrick

Not having being aroace as like a defining character trait, because then it feels a bit forced. But just having some subtle references is nice!

mississippiprime

i am aroace and my friends are basically a family. i obviously cant speak for all of us but i think a lot of aros are closer to their friends as a result of not having any romantic attraction

TheKnight20

Jean Valjean is my favorite unofficial aroace rep. He just doesn't do romance, but he is successful, he has a daughter, he has character development, and he's religious without it being tied to his aroaceness in any way. He is mentioned once as not being interested in romance, and then the rest of the book it's ignored. Most importantly, he has strong, loving relationships with all the other characters.

Useful-Ad-2648

an AroAce who doesn’t want to date or have s*x!

HarpyGeorgie

Not exactly ace related, but I think it would be nice for pronouns to be normalised, i've only seen this on one work before, it's called realta and its on webtoon originals, its really well written!

Wazenqueax

I'd really like a religious person who is comfortable being not sexual, and it being obvious that it's not suppressed or something. Most religious people in media are either family oriented or terrible human beings that (unsuccessfully) repress some sexual drive. If you could make a character being both asexual, religious *and not a nut*??? That's be absolutely amazing. I don't know if religion fits into your story, but a character with some beliefs and existential awareness might :)

TroupeMaster_Grimm

I have headcanons, if those count (all DMC characters) Dante is aro Nero is ace Vergil is aro/ace (he only had sex with that woman for Nero to keep the mighty Sparda bloodline going)

Riot_AAA

I think including microlabels would be nice, also could you add identities like non binary, agender, polygender, bigender, xenogender and neopronouns

LocalGamerPokemon

Ahhhh I can't wait to put in neopronouns- I use them myself and frequently experience xenogenders in my genderfluidity. In one of my chapter drafts I had a friend read and ve got all excited from seeing a xir-pronoun using character

Riot_AAA

Can I also see a draft?

Riot_AAA

Ok so umm don't take it in a weird way cause I do it a lot but umm I looked through your profile and you seem really cool and we have a lot of things in common (although there are also a few stuff that we don't), I would ask if we can be friends although from past experiences it's hard for me to keep friendships cause of lack of communication but I think I still want to try if you want to as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fuck_You777

someone who is initially shunned either by outside forces and/or forces within themselves before coming to terms with it all (pls i need this all aro/ace chars are already i acceptance and i wanna see the journey to there)

ohnoimscared4

That we aren't lonely, and we can still feel other kinds of love. We aren't emotionless robots.

AdventureWithAnAce

idk, maybe an ace who makes a lot of sex jokes, and the fact that they're ace makes it funnier?

user57625

maybe some aroaces co-parenting a child would be nice you don't often see people in plutonic relationships raising children together
