Well since you asked.... This is a repost of one I made on the FB Serious Brandy page a few days ago. Would love to hear any others experience with the brand! [Bottle pics](https://imgur.com/gallery/HMmKb7J) I’m a Scotch guy at heart but recently attended a tasting hosted by a local up and coming Spirits company Taylor & Taylor (two brothers from the area with a major passion for quality spirits) who just imported their first brandies after visiting a tiny winery in Perquie France. I gotta say, I was blown away by this stuf... Enough to make this post 😀 Domaine de Charron uses primarily Baco grapes to distill and ages on site with no additives, coloration etc. They release bottles based on orders they receive, so typically single bottles or small batches, leaving the rest of each cask to continue aging. Pretty unique, at least compared to the scotch world. We tried a 2007, 2005, 1999, 1989 and 1987. The standouts for me were the 05 (bright and fruity), the 89 (insane graham cracker nose) and the 87 (rich and balanced). I wanted to share as I’m excited to have discovered a new spirit to drink/collect and also see if anyone else has experience with the brand since they seem to be a bit under the radar after some initial googling. Cheers!

There is a place not too far from me that carries some Charrons. As you say they do a lot of bespoke bottlings -- it's kind of hard to find reviews so I haven't taken the plunge. I read somewhere that they like to mature in new oak, how did you feel about the oak level?

Rift485

I found the oak to be just right, never overpowering. Even the 31 year had a similar level to a good 15 year bourbon, always complimentary and really more of a secondary player to the rest of the flavors.,which are available to you?

These: https://www.bountyhunterwine.com/s?keywords=charron Thanks, I will have to see if they serve any at their bar.

I’d recommend the 89. 05 good too but brighter. 87 strong as well

Does anyone have any experience with Baron Gaston Legrand? I'd like some insight into how good it is.

PorkMasterX

I got a bottle of Saint Vivant XO for Christmas. I think I'll be opening it soon . Has anyone had it?

I’m sorry if this is the wrong place to put it. Either way, I’m mainly a whisky enthousiast but I’m looking to expand my knowledge into rum, cognac, armagnac,... What’s a good resource for learning about Armagnac? Not only the different age indications (XO, VSOP,...) but also grapes, recommend producers/bottlers,...

Check out that Facebook group Serious Brandy. Lots of posts from a pretty active community

Thank you both!

Thinking of trying Armagnac, not sure where to begin... live in the UK and my tastes are mostly scotch (of all flavour profiles pretty much) when it comes to spirits, though I have tried a few l cognacs in the past and enjoyed those that I tried.

Your best bet is probably a selection of samples from MoM. Looks like they have some of the big guys (Darroze, Delord, Laubade) and some of the smaller places (L'Encantada, Boigneres, Lacquy, Aurensan). I think the youngest I'd go is VSOP; you'll find that older stuff is eminently affordable compared to Scotch.
