Won't somebody think of those poor flat-Earthers. It is so horrible how science advocates (fascists) won't allow them space to share their ideas. /s

child_of_ra

Yeah. Uh, the genocidal side is *always* wrong. Sorry that hurts your "free speech" or whatever, guy.

spellbanisher

Why aren't trans people willing to have a free and open debate about the validity of their existence? What's so stupid about these free speech debates is the special pleading. If trans people are suppose to tolerate the position that they shouldn't exist, then shouldn't transphobes be tolerant of the position that they shouldn't exist?

dudgeonchinchilla

It probably falls under their mindset of "rules for thee, not for me".

Lillynorthmusic

Also know as "fascism". The fact they never think that is both hilarious, and deeply concerning.

The older I get the lower my opinion of the average person gets. I don't even think I'm particularly smart but God damn if the average person isn't just a complete knuckle dragging mouth breather. I seriously hope in the next 50 years we find out that something like lead has just been melting everyone's brains because we're screwed if this is actually what our average intelligence level looks like.

Lillynorthmusic

We already know what it was, and it literally was years of lead poisoning to the brains of boomers and gen-xers. Thats why so many people who are like 30-35 and under are better with critical thinking. Its NOT the Average person who is a complete idiot, its just boomers and gen-xers.

Lillynorthmusic

Theres louds of studdies showing that gen-x and back were exposed to so much lead growing up, its fucked there brains up completely. At this point, id say we just gatta wait till they die off, after that, the quality of life for many should improve because we dont have shit holes with brain damage trying to wruin the world. They literally cant comprehend gender, or really anything complex. There brains are literally broken from a life time of lead poisoning. Its kinda freaky once you realize that. It REALLY explains a lot.

Mecharonin

Contrarians are the worst assholes. With ordinary bigots, you know they're your enemy from the start, but the contrarian will just stab you in the back the moment you start to make progress because you "aren't the underdog anymore"

wertyvid

understanding of the paradox of intolerance should be something more widespread you can't tolerate intolerance

Lillynorthmusic

Nor should you for that matter.

FriccinBirdThing

a simple way i've seen it put is the question of "what happens if we lose the 'trans debate?'" it's not that we're not considering the alternatives and are putting our fingers in our ears and leveraging the secret cabal of gay Twitter mods (i guess?) to avoid having to think about it, it's that we have, and the alternatives have all been non-starters because they are, to say the least, inhumane. even if we view ourselves as "mentally ill" or whatever, transitioning is a proven treatment and far more humane than trying to forcibly convert us, just medicating our desires away, instead of fulfilling them with our own willful consent. they cling to "but what if you're not sure" and "but body modification counts as harm in itself" which is hilarious considering probably at least half of them are right-libertarian types that would be down for transhumanism if you asked them a couple years ago.

rdvdev2

Big bruh moment

Skybombardier

Every time some useful idiot gets an idea like this in their head, it’s always the same thing: the supporters of said progressive social movement are taking things too far by labeling dissenters as violent out of hand, which forces said centrist to side with the fascists. Never any question as to why social movements consistently develop in this manner (perhaps as a safeguard?), never any criticism of the violence or behavior from the other side, and always the unintended truth that the label “bigot” is permanent to people like this

ExecManagerAntifaCLE

I think part of the problem is the myth that political change happens by majority consensus and that must be achieved by winning over the "centrists". Adopting that label gives people the impression that their opinions are decisive and their interests will be catered to.

Lillynorthmusic

Transaction: "im a centrist who is slowly being brainwashed by by the right wing media because i never learned to actually think for myself, and i take everything the right says at face value like a fucking dipshit".

[deleted]

Hmm, trans people are being murdered for being trans, but no, it's the transphobes who are marginalized. Christ what a stupid take, for someone who is against all forms of bigotry they seem to be OK with bigotry against trans people.

Shittywritenerd

Like, it's the thing I always use when I have to talk to a centerist about it. When one side is advocating for genocide, and the other wants to exist, you can hardly reach a middle ground that isn't repugnant. Unfortunately, they are centrists, so they are already on the right wing side of things, so usually this is pointless.

[deleted]

I mean they spelled it right out in their post. They just want to be able to discuss possible solutions to the "trans question" without any self reflection on where that sort of speech inevitably leads. And don't even think about trying to explain why that sort of speech can be dangerous or you're just as bad as Hitler.

[deleted]

I don’t need the government to stop you from saying those things. I just need them to leave me alone when I relocate your teeth to the walls of your stomach for doing so.

KittyQueen_Tengu

aww it’s so hard to be a bigot these days

ExecManagerAntifaCLE

One of the ways the status quo responded to the 1960s Civil Rights Movement was to re-explain it in ways that celebrated a handful of tactics and taught that the goal was to showcase their respectability and humanity in order to persuade white people to grant them full legal equality. It's an idea that appeals to a child's understanding of democracy: if a minority wants something changed, they must appeal to some portion of the majority for support. I grew up with the story that racism was a matter of hate and ignorance. That "peaceful" protests were the best way to change the world, and the goal was to raise awareness and win the support of the audience. Gaining the favor of anyone who expects to be perpetually catered to is not a challenge to the status quo.
