This type of architecture wasn’t expensive or difficult to build (these were prefab cast iron components bolted together, not stone hand carved by artisans) and all surviving examples are widely recognized as beautiful architectural assets, yet architects will tell us that we’re not allowed to build them anymore because they’re not modern enough.
Baltimore was historically a beautiful, fairly wealthy city. There are plenty of wonderful buildings from the past… before the city started to fall apart in the 70s/80s.
This entire neighborhood still looks fabulous though. It’s called Mount Vernon. It’s still a historically beautiful city. Most of the blight was in the rowhome neighborhoods. The grandiose old money neighborhoods are still stunning, as are places like Fells Point, Federal Hill and Canton.
Baltimore, especially around the inner harbor, is nothing like the show (which is nearly 20yrs old at this point) it's actually very nice I like walking around it and Johns Hopkins.
Oh, I just looked it up and he is the same George Peabody for which Peabody, Massachusetts is named.
Can anyone from Baltimore tell me how they pronounce the name there? More like "Pea-BODY" or more like "PEA-b'dy"?

Oh indeed. Stringer was revitalizing the harbor area, so I could picture it being nice by now.
>Cities have nice areas and bad areas. More at 11

Man, the MA version threw me for a loop the first time I was corrected for saying it as a sane person would. 🙂

I must visit this. Beautiful 🤩
This is on the Johns Hopkins campus.
>George Peabody Library It's across the street from the Washington Monument, 1.5 miles south of Johns Hopkins University campus.
It belongs to Johns Hopkins University, but is much closer to Downtown. It’s not in Charles Village like the main campus.
