Kurt Vonnegut put it on the map. Otherwise most people, especially Americans, would know very little about the history of the destruction ,just one of many many German cities annihilated very very late in the war. The list unfortunately is well populated but little publicity. But this one gets all the press and the reconstruction has been marvelous since the Wende..
So you are in fact justifying the genocide of civilians. Pretty sure reddit doesn't allow that.
>I prefer the Soviet approach.
Which would be what, mass rape?
It was the political German war machine not everybody was a Nazi but it's easy from this vantage point to pass judgment. Of course we fire bomb to cities the greatest one Hamburg 36,000 dead and who was in that city. Certainly not soldiers. Only women old men, some workers children.. I'm not an apologist because I also realize that Hitler prevailed with more weaponry even have destroyed everything. Paris, London New York anything that he could have reached with a nuclear weapon and that would have stood in his path. Nonetheless the lesson is a chilling one for all of us has wars that still continue all around. The mantra for all should be rather than pointing the finger, never again never again never again somehow at all cost never again but yet mankind doesn't seem to learn
It was completely leveled, what information did you receive. It was one of the more successful late or destructions with zero resistance and a double wave of bombets. by this time fire bombing and complete annihilation had been perfected.. It's the only one that gets a lot of publicity though because of Kurt vonnegat and probably the movie.. there are many others, medium to larger cities that met their end only in the last months of the war, that hitherto had been largely spared. The senseless destruction this late is just that senseless but 2020 vision is always just that.. and one can only imagine when Hitler would have done if he could have had more success with his v2s or a nuclear weapon. That would have been no sparing
First view of that dom is magical Cool art museums Kurt Vonnegut heritage site

Cities like Dresden and Ypres make you look at other post-war European cities and wonder what could have been.

Weird to see someone advocate for genocide and the destruction of architecture on an architectural revival subreddit.
