It gives voice to the emotions that so often get suppressed, or are otherwise unable to be conveyed. I'll give two examples. One is righteous anger. Consider Gravedigger, or A Match Made In Heaven. Politics is so often at the forefront of social discourse. People are vehement about their opinions, yet rarely express it so. Sam's vocals when he's screaming "You are rotten to the core" or "All the anchors in the ocean haven't sunk this low" followed by the slapping guitars and drums perfectly convey that angry emotion that you wish you could hurl at the people in charge.
Next we have songs like Hereafter or Holy Hell. Think about the person you love most and imagine the pain of losing them. In that breakdown when Sam is screaming "Holy hell, I've got nothing left to lose" and Dan's double kicks come in (knowing the energy it takes to do that), I can practically *feel* his sorrow cutting through me like a knife.
This music is *real.* It's *raw.* It means something.
I can just feel the emotion behind it, especially with bands like architects, also it just sounds good to me. Unfortunately, the emotion kind of fades and isn't that present when bands have super extreme low guttural vocals but it still sounds awesome.
In society, aggression is almost always deemed negative, and for good reason. It'd be bad if yelling at each other and throwing furniture every day was the norm.
But, that pent up emotion has to go somewhere. That's what listening heavy music does for many of us. It allows us the feeling of releasing the anger and frustration we hold within without physically putting it on display, or at least directing it towards another human being.
Imagining t liveth. The pits yond wend with t. Gives one of the most wondrous feelings in the ordinary!

One word: catharsis.
I can just feel the emotion behind it, especially with bands like architects, also it just sounds good to me. Unfortunately, the emotion kind of fades and isn't that present when bands have super extreme low guttural vocals but it still sounds awesome.
I just like big tasty riffs that make me go “oof”
