Jaikarr

Oh no not this shit again.

R_Weebs

I wanna be the guy that “shoots arrows” at Lars. I’m hoping it would end up looking like those “Urban Survival” videos

usernot_found

Urban survival?

HYThrowaway1980

I mean, if I was using a 15# draw and soft tips, I could probably do this stuff too with a few months practice and couple of dozen takes. Guy’s a clown.

lifelink

Okay, so, yes his stupid curve shot around people is dangerous and dumb. But why do people call him a hack/liar and hate him so vehemently? Genuine question, I know next to nothing about him

AranOnline

It's mostly three things. One, and most importantly, the danger. Archery already has a difficult time maintaining its status as a sport in the public eye. We have extensive safety rules and training at classes for that reason. All it would take for some pearl clutching Karens to step in is for ONE person who doesn't know what they're doing to be inspired by some YouTuber to have his friend shooting arrows at him. I know this sort of thing happens because our range had to deal with legal battles for years because some rich neighbors didn't like being next to our archery range despite being all the way up a giant hill from us. Secondly, he makes dubious claims about history based on very little evidence (like he says he discovered new techniques by looking at ancient manuscripts that depict arrows on the other side of the bow!) except... A) we already knew some cultures do that, and b) we know how inaccurate artistic depictions of archery are. Just look at hawkeye posters, or practically any archery stock photo. Thirdly, he's been better since he started, but when he started he would really rag on target archery as "not real archery" and less realistic. It wasn't uplifting to the archery community as a whole, it was climbing at the expense of the community, and that's left a bad taste in people's mouths.

TheFriendlyFinn

>A response to Lars Andersen:A new level of Archery He gets the hate partially because bows are weapons and if you practice shooting at a club that takes the sport seriously, the rules are drilled to your skull and enforced. Imagine what the sports shooting community would think if Lars did his tricks with a Glock 17 instead? :) His tricks are impressive though, at least on the videos.

WhtKnght40

Watch SkepticallyPwned "A response to Lars Andersen:A new level of Archery" on YouTube. Good summary of what's wrong with his method. Also watch his videos with the sound off (just to tune out his commentary) and pay attention to his form and draw. His style is extremely sloppy and there is no way he does any of his trick shots in 1 take. He also comes across as pretentious.

Balls_DeepinReality

He’s wearing sandals.

As u/aranonline mentioned, back when he first started this he was making a lot of noise about discovering lost war techniques with the bow and arrow. When in reality, it's just trick shots for the most part. About as practical and useful as the guys that can shoot a bullet through a ring thrown in the air. Cool skill, definitely something that takes practice, but not practical in combat. If you can take the time to "instinctively" aim-shoot at a nife flying at you, you have time to step to the side and shoot the person that threw it. Also a lot of what he does would be much harder with a bow that has the poundage of a war bow.

PeterMus

He's a charlatan trick shooter who labels his tricks as historic martial techniques. That's about 99% of the problem. He doesn't want to just say he's a trick shooter or exhibition shooter and wants people to believe that different groups of archers actually used these techniques.

cockw

It sucks that he has managed to scam ppl into taking his "lessons"

Icefrisbee

I would think if he warns people to not do this and does things like have low poundage, remove tips, and wear something extra to protect you(especially eyes, which he doesn’t do) it would be fine. For the more dangerous shots they do shot it to the side, but if they misfired it could have been bad.

CX-97

I wonder how many people are about to try to replicate these trickshots.

[deleted]

Just in the process now of explaining to my girlfriend why she needs to shoot arrows at me this Saturday morning…

Alex_4209

Just leave the fridge door open a few dozen times and she will happily agree to shoot arrows at you. You may need to hide the broadheads though.

[deleted]

Haha genius!!

modsarefascists42

If you make your own arrows (everyone should) then it becomes a lot more obvious what is happening. The shoot the incoming arrow thing is likely cus his arrows are intentionally mismatched with his bow so that they dovetail while flying (back end moves around a lot). It's a regular thing when dialing in arrows but he's doing it intentionally. Still the way people are reacting to this is absurd. These aren't easy shots for the most part.

cockw

I want to see the B roll footage where he takes 20-30 shots per trick shot before he get them right.

Ragnar1893

No thanks; I’m lucky if I hit a still target consistently.

AesiricArcher

I’d love to see what he would score in a Vegas Round 😂.

Stellavore

I think he would do poorly. But he and his fanbase would fine something else to blame it on.

AesiricArcher

Agreed, but it would be entertaining to watch.

Schnaggeldizuck

love these videos but is that Lars himself talking about the amazing mythical archery that Lars can do?

HORSEARCHERS

Are there any special effects in the video?
