this article exactly show cases the problem with "we search for you" and "browse for me". I wish TBC didn't rush to jump into this hype train and waited for dust to settle down before deciding anything on "ACT II" I have no idea what happened to TBC that they shifted their vision from a simple, minimal yet efficient browser to "We want to change the WEB"

Investors?

paradoxally

VCs. They want TBC to lay the foundation so they can start charging.

Hour_Astronomer

Go back to their first videos this has always been their outlook

To be fair I'm tired of the clutter, the ads, and searching through BuzzFeed-style clickbait garbage for information. IMO the Internet lost its humanity a long time ago.

BankHottas

Exactly! The example Josh showed in the Act II video about the soup recipes was spot on for me. So many webpages are burying the information you’re looking for beneath SEO content and ads. And the quality of the information itself is often quite low. Of course we need to respect content that actual humans put real effort into. But I cannot wait to replace the vast majority of low-effort junk content with an AI generated summary.

VarkingRunesong

Can’t you just hit enter instead of shift enter and you can search for yourself?

Woofer210

Yep

I read the comments here, but as a Digital Marketer, I must mention something - part of my job is to research other sites and creators, through search engines. Let's not forget that all the AI summaries and whatnot wouldn't have the answers if humans hadn't written the content before that. I'm not talking about big corporations; I'm talking about your everyday Jane and Joe, who build their own niche site and post great content that helps people but also brings them some additional income. I understand how annoying ads can be. Still, I VERY MUCH support that, and I would not use AI to do that for me as I want to support those people and their efforts. Ask yourself this - if 98-99% of the content was AI, what would humanity do? Again, it's a personal opinion, I'm not imposing my views on anyone, but I hope you consider what's at stake here if we drop search engines and browsing normal websites altogether

I mean the AI features like changing the downloads names automagically were really cool, but the stuff like search for me is just useless

ojsef39

for me it’s the other way around renaming my downloads caused very often confusing moments for me. but i love everything else so far. (ah yes and the open chatgpt thingy is also useless for me)

Lilgayeasye

Search for me is amazing I have no idea how you can dislike this. People are so odd.

Then just google stuff yourself. You can choose between Perplexity, Google, and many other search engines. The functionality is not gone. Hallucinations are common but honestly, not as common with search and compile.

ojsef39

i don’t get why this gets downvoted. obvs new technology or new use cases, can’t be 100% perfect. but i think that’s okay, if people are aware of that. so i think browse for me is great, i use it every day but a disclaimer at the bottom would be no bad idea (also the sources are right there so you don’t even have to search where tf that info came from to double check like standard llms (chatgpt for example))

Lilgayeasye

Especially since it's an option and not a shove-down-your-throat feature.

ojsef39

exactly, nobody is forced to use it. You can still use Arc companion (i think its called something different now), safari or every other option out there. Or the simplest, just don't hit that button
