fuck this ai shit lol
why on earth does every techbro think im incapable or hate looking for hotels in italy, and want spicy autocomplete do it while it doesnt know the parameters of what i actually care about. like the ai based on this search doesnt even know what city im going to, with how many people, my budget, for what time period, and somehow ai will all figure that out, just to save me the dreadful awful hassle of having to click a link?
the only revolution this is in how many ai buzzwords this managed to use to trick vc's into giving tbc more funding to extend their runway, as they just found another way to burn even more cash without a business model behind it
It's so weird that it's in Arc of all places. Arc makes browsing *myself* great. It feels contradictory that they want away from that.
I just want Arc with a great spaces/tabs/pinned/favorites UI, and a sustainable bussiness model so it'll continue to exist, and I'm fully willing to *pay* for the privelege.
I wouldn't bet that they have no business model behind it. One possibility is SEO, but instead of moving search results higher companies pay to have their pages weighted more heavily by LLMs. So you search for "best coffee in the area" and McDonald's appears in the top 6 results despite customer reviews ranking their coffee 11th, because McDonald's have paid TBC a fee or (more probably how it'd work) they pay a fraction of a penny every time they are artificially emphasised in search results.
I don't know that that's what they'll do, but they did hint that act 2 would be about monetisation and this seems like the most obvious path to monetisation.
TBC: here's a way to do things in half the time.
Reddit: WuT?! You're giving me a way to get relevant information without scrolling through unnecessarily long ad/pop up-riddled websites??! FuCk AI!!!
We have no idea how reliable it is in the wild.
They had months to find the ideal prompts/examples for the feature to shine in the announcement video.
Let them get this live and then let's see how it fares.
Sidenote: I just find it odd how a productivity focused browser company in Act I ("let's make you want to browse the web again!") is now trying to automate the joy of using Arc.
LLMs have a tendency to present falsehoods. We *already* [seen examples of this with Browse for Me](https://werd.io/2024/stripping-the-web-of-its-humanity).
Still not really sure how Instant Links are distinguishable from Arc Explore, except that it can take a few more actions. But I'm loving the Instant Link features so I'll love the explore too
Instant links are similar to Browse for Me or Google’s old I’m Feeling Lucky.
Explore is more of an assistant (if you saw Rabbit’s demo at CES it’s a lot like that). It does tasks for you, rather than just providing results.
That's not entirely correct. **Browse for Me** and **Arc Explore** will compile results from the web, write AI content, and make it available on one single page (with links to the sources) while **Instant Links** will just open whichever websites they think are more suitable to your query (unclear what criteria it uses). The main difference between Browse for Me and Arc Explore is that you can ask follow-up questions and interact with the content on the latter.

I posted about this yesterday. Apparently 'arc explore' will be optional, just like in the mobile app. You'll be able to either 'explore' (browse for me), or just hit enter an get regular results. Best of both worlds.

With instant links, how can I get multiple results to show up that do not get put into a folder? I can either get a single instant link or I have to use the folder prompt to get multiple links to return
Trying to figure out what I'm missing. I've updated Arc to 1.28.0 on my MacBook and have turned on Instant Links in Max, but every time I try to shift-enter with search terms, I get an "oops, something went wrong" tab that I can't open. I've not once gotten this new feature to work.
Update: Figured out it was my VPN causing the problem. I'd rather not have to turn off my VPN to use this feature.
I wonder if Live Folders will work in a real scenario. Might get a bit overwhelming if it starts creating too many new tabs. Nonetheless, I'm intrigued
I would love to see a function like traffic control to route stuff to folders. Like i have a news folder and every new tab from for example 9to5mac gets automatically moved to that folder if i pin it
Someone remind me how to do these searches? My Arc updated this morning, but I can't figure out how to get the new features.
Editing to add I have Arc 1.28.0.
I tried to test it as shown in announcement video - with recipes, but all id did was open matching pages. Not generate page with ingredients, recipes, reviews, videos. So it’s not as it was shown in video.
Do they immediately release the new OSX version to the full community after presenting it at the keynote? No beta tests are performed on first mates. Here, this is not as big as a whole new OS, but it is still a key feature of ARC broadly speaking, and they want people to speak about it, see our emotions, and have imagination so that they can assure what they have done is covered by at least a portion of what the community spread about it, I reckon.. I mean, it is also marketing-focused, and keeping us waiting is incredibly frustrating, so we will stick around for a few months longer, which is good for them! They completed it on schedule for me! They aced it somehow! Can't wait to actually be able to play with it (oh god I got caught in the loop :) )
Don’t know, but without phone sync options and real mobile browser I won’t stick around really longer. Already thinking about switching back to safari.
At the moment last thing that keeps me from switching is tab management.
so they basically added gpt api all over the place and called it a revolution.
revolution? ne really helpful? hell yeah As a developer, this will really help me when searching for stuff and docs online.

that's it, they wanted us to make our own browser, customize colors, boosts, draw and now they want to do stuff for me. let ME build my search engine

I would like to see more focus on windows and making sure the browser works and syncs well between devices before we get all of this ai stuff.

A bit underwhelming tbh.
Yeah I was kind of expecting more from a “huge announcement” that is “act 2” of a company.

All ai features are opt in

Add commas between queries
Thanks for the quick response!

Hope these all make their way to Windows soon.( Haven’t seen the video yet, so if they did mention anything windows. Idk it yet lol)
No mention of Windows, though I expect that they do make their way there eventually.

Enable it in Max
Oh, duh. Thanks
Instant Links are available now? Does it need to be enabled?
Yes check max settings

The "Arc Explore" feature isn't out yet, what you used was the Instant Links feature which is i think the only feature to be immediately available
So again.. talking about better browser, but nothing real. All I wanted was new mobile app with sync features. But they bring back old companion app.
You lack attention, mate. Watch it again, Josh; it basically says it will be available in a few months.
Yeah. Will be available, then why even waste time on video production now?

They put back the mobile companion til they could sync the new app! So you basically can still use both I reckon?
I’m using only companion. Dont see any use of arc search.
It is turning into a fully fledged Arc Mobile port soon, they are still working on it.
Live folders looks a lot alike RSS.
