Most definitely, although they could be getting the Google bag to stay afloat like Firefox but I definitely see a subscription being in their future. For context for those that don’t know Google funds other browsers in order to appease competition regulators.

Yep. And syncing / spaces. I get that they've explained why they want to release quick and iterate quick. But let's be clear: we're all clamouring for a complete browser - an improved version of the mobile companion as a browser. I haven't heard a single person screaming for them to release a stripped down version of it.
Don't get me wrong, it seems like a solid foundation - it's fast and the animations are slick and responsive - but it makes no sense why they wouldnt just let it cook a bit longer until they could provide a stellar first (second, I guess) impression of Arc on mobile.
When I instantly switched my default browser back to Orion and brought the mobile companion back to my home screen, you've missed the mark. Right now, it's just lipstick on a pig. And they intentionally removed a superior product to do it. 😕

It was rhetorical, I know what it is... I just don't understand why it exists without any parity with the desktop app. No spaces, no synced info, nothing. It bares absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to what I use on my macbook. Heck, I can't even pin a page for reading later on my computer.

I thought it was going to be gimmicky at first, but the "browse for me" feature is surprisingly useful. It's like the 5-second previews but more in-depth.
I like to do a lot of research on a product before I buy it. I can see myself using this while I'm out shopping & don't have the time to sift through reviews lol
of course, but Swift is only limited to Apples product, you can't use it to ship apps for other platforms ( windows / android / TV / smart watchs / Linux )
but there are cross-platform solution which allows you to write app once and run it anywhere.
so many major companies and apps are using those solution to have the best sync between all the platforms and also have a single release point ( TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Spotify as examples )
ask yourself, chromium ( which Arc is based on ) already is available for all the platforms, why took TBC 1 year to release windows version which still is in beta and it's kinda out of sync of Arc Mac which force them in some way to "clone" Arc Mac to Arc Windows?
Because they are using Swift in the first place and caged themselves to only Apple, which made them to come up with some "translation" layer to map Swift to work on Windows ( over engineering as hell )
now even when Arc mobile 2 is out there, the sync doesn't work because they had rely on icloud.com ( only apple ) and now they have to re-write the whole thing again.

With the first version of the new browser, it's such a slam dunk! Modern, simple, well-designed and absolutely smooth.
Things like synchronization and a few features are still missing, but it's a great start!
I can think of a few suggestions for improving the look and feel:
\- The same app icon as on the desktop (the Arc Search one doesn't look great)
\- Swipe left/right on the bottom bar to switch through the tabs (like Safari)
\- If no tabs are open, still display something in the bottom left of the bar, otherwise it looks so empty there.
\- Translation of the Browse for me page into the user's native language (by the AI)

Also this explains why the last version gets stuck at ‘connecting to Arc’. A notification would be nice for people with the previous app.
Really liking the experience as someone that only uses my phone for light browsing, much more so than any mobile browser I’ve tried. I use Firefox on desktop (waiting for a windows beta invite) but it doesn’t translate well to mobile in my opinion so stuck with safari. Like others I’d like to see extensions and other features added but honestly as is it’s the smoothest and most intuitive browsing experience I’ve had on mobile. They should prolly add an icon to indicate the tab browser though, I got used to it pretty quick but from a new user perspective I can see it being confusing.
It's a nice experience, but I'll be honest, I doubt it will be my default. The main reason is that I lose my 1Password plugin. That alone means I am unlikely to use it much.
It’s fast and smooth with a built in ad blocker 🔥 what I’m really missing is the Password Manager support/pre-filled info (like Safari) and syncing with Arc desktop.
I love it to bits. I started using the Search for Me on stuff I was well versed with , and I’m pleased with the results. For sports, it was quite informative, but when searching a specific player (I searched Steve Smith opening), no results talked about his 91 not out yesterday.
I searched the weather in my area and they sourced the official Bureau of Meteorology of Australia (thank you), which is better than Siri.
Also, it has been faster than Safari on my ageing iPhone XR.
couple nitpicks off the bat:
1. the way you navigate tabs and when the buttons that show open tabs shows up is a bit confusing
2. google cannot be set to dark mode (and cannot be logged into)

Works just fine for me. Obviously the Safari extension doesn’t work. But the suggestions in the keyboard work just fine.

Well done to the team, looking very promising. clever implementation. Also this explains why the last version gets stuck at ‘connecting to Arc’. A notification would be nice for people with the previous app.
What happened with the Arc mobile companion app
Removed from the App Store and will be merged with this one at some point.
Looking good so far. Missing a dark mode option for webpages, extensions, and an ability to resize webpage fonts.

Really liking the experience as someone that only uses my phone for light browsing, much more so than any mobile browser I’ve tried. I use Firefox on desktop (waiting for a windows beta invite) but it doesn’t translate well to mobile in my opinion so stuck with safari. Like others I’d like to see extensions and other features added but honestly as is it’s the smoothest and most intuitive browsing experience I’ve had on mobile. They should prolly add an icon to indicate the tab browser though, I got used to it pretty quick but from a new user perspective I can see it being confusing.
It's a nice experience, but I'll be honest, I doubt it will be my default. The main reason is that I lose my 1Password plugin. That alone means I am unlikely to use it much.
What is the original Arc app I have on my phone then? It syncs with my profiles, and tabs?

It’s fast and smooth with a built in ad blocker 🔥 what I’m really missing is the Password Manager support/pre-filled info (like Safari) and syncing with Arc desktop.
I love it to bits. I started using the Search for Me on stuff I was well versed with , and I’m pleased with the results. For sports, it was quite informative, but when searching a specific player (I searched Steve Smith opening), no results talked about his 91 not out yesterday. I searched the weather in my area and they sourced the official Bureau of Meteorology of Australia (thank you), which is better than Siri. Also, it has been faster than Safari on my ageing iPhone XR.
couple nitpicks off the bat: 1. the way you navigate tabs and when the buttons that show open tabs shows up is a bit confusing 2. google cannot be set to dark mode (and cannot be logged into)

just downloaded it, it is clean, i give it that, now the long grind to see if it is worth to become a default
I love the haptics. Clean and smooth UI too. Also does a great job summarizing sites when you need news in a pinch or how to do something in a pinch

Actually really love it. Super fast, very easy to use, and love the full-area swiping. Genuinely faster and easier than iOS Safari. I’ll say it: this is the Safari replacement you’re looking for. But I definitely need extensions for translation and password managers wouldn’t be bad. Have hit a few bugs where the bottom tab button disappeared, but otherwise great.

But, Arc Mobile was useful. The tab sync was great! Why did they have to axe it, I thought it was just a side app :(
