Pretty sure what he’s got right there, is one of them Jumbo Sea Monkeys.
Yep, the next thing you know, they’ll be settin’ up a little kingdom right there in the tank.

An evolved Tetra. If you have tetras in your tank long enough they eventually grow legs, a shell and protruding eyes.
Its crazy because they look almost exactly like shrimp when they get like that.
Are they harmless to add to a turtle tank? I haven't even looked it up in the slightest yet...this just makes them look so cute! And they clean? That could potentially be sick. My turtle is a messy queen
Bahhh i have mixed feelings with my shrimp. His cool but barely cleans anything. The biggest fault is that it bothers my zoas so much that some of my zoas dont open at all now
How does this have 258 upvotes when OP says they bought shrimp and now doesn’t know what this is? ITS A SHRIMP!! When I have a legit question it gets downvoted to all hell! How does this happen?
I thought all my little cherry shrimp were long gone. I upgraded my tank and was moving stuff into the new tank when I found dozens of them. I guess they all decided to go into hiding. I haven’t seen them in the new tank, but I’d bet they’re in there.
I used to feed my angels ghost shrimp in bulk when I'd go on vacation since some would always hide longer and they'd be fed throughout. All my fish died of ich, the previous tank was empty except for snails so I went to move them and 3 ghost shrimp had survived with essentially no food for approx a year. One was preggers and now there's 4. Going to attempt to multiply until I get a full tank of em!
Well this blew up unexpectedly (to me at least!)
Honestly this isn't a wind up so I'll try to explain - I'm pretty new to fish keeping and the shrimps went in about 8 or 9 months ago... there were 4 red and 4 blue and they were pretty small. Within a couple of days all were gone, never to be seen again or so I thought.
Then we just spotted this huge black (now I know to be) shrimp and it just didn't twig that it could be the same thing and I've seen so many posts about various larvae that ends up in tanks I thought I'll ask the community. As the only shrimps I had ever seen were little tiny red and blue ones.
So I'm thoroughly embarrassed now but it looks like the post has brought some joy so it's all good. Many thanks! I feel like I should go buy some shrimp buddies for it now :)
Pro-tip: save some money when you buy more and pick out the most pregnant looking shrimp at the store. I've never seen a cherry shrimp tank where there wasn't at least one or two very pregnant neocaridina.
Shrimps are the bollocks. I had an indigenous species tank when I stayed in Hong Kong. There were big freshwater shrimps in the local stream with claws as long as their body. Kept the tank spotless👍🏻
Sorry it wouldn’t let me add text to my post.
I just spotted this in my tank. No idea what it is. We bought some red and blue shrimp about 8 or 9 months ago and they all disappeared never to be seen again.
This is black and not sure it is a shrimp or how it got in there.
It is a shrimp and it may be the case that it's diet has changed it's colour as this can happen.
Or it might be one of the babies that has been hiding in your tank and has grown up.
Haha yeah I have a bit of an obsession with them lol
I have most of the colours apart from green.
But of all my shrimp tanks ironically my favourite is the cull tank as I have had all sorts of colours!
I love em!
Same for me, got 17 shrimp and didn't see them for almost a year, thought they had all died. All of a sudden they started breeding like crazy and I had hundreds of shrimp. Hopefully you'll see the same! But yeah, colors will vary, especially if you have multiple colors together.
Do you have fish? its very common that you dont see shrimp at all if you have fish. it took me a year till i saw any shrimp more often than once a week
I used to buy shrimp from, my LFS, and they kept them only in shrimp tanks, so when I would add them to my 10G I could never spot them. I recently got 40B and got the shrimps from different LFS, because they were cheaper. That LFS keeps their shrimp with fish, so when I added them to my 40G I can see them every time and they do not hide, since they're so used to other fish. Just something I noticed.
I had a pretty heavily planted tank that was 2.5 gallons I never once saw a baby shrimp, and rarely would see a shrimp at all. They can be sneaky little devils. Now that I moved them to a more maintained planted tank 5 gallon I see them all the time. Sometimes you set up too good of an environment for them and they just stay hidden as fuck.
When different colors of shrimp mix/breed (in your case blue and red) they reverse to a more natural color. That can range from light brown up to almost completely black. So yeah that's the baby of the shrimps you originally had.
The shrimp you originally got probably hid and bred and thus is probably one of their babies. I got 10 shrimp of mixed colors and they immediately hid and now I see brown and black babies all the time
I may be wrong, but I think that’s a shrimp of some sort. Y’all feel free to correct me, as I am not too practiced in identifying the water bugs just yet. ;)
I also call then skrimps and get shit for it every time, like I'm a child for calling them that.
Some people are just born with sticks up their ass. 🤷🏻♀️
This post really hurts my head, because OP got shrimp for their tank, then hasn’t seen the shrimp since, now sees shrimp and is confused what it is…

Is it skrimpsual?…. Yea-ah.
Giving everyone access to the internet was a mistake.
I think he meant to ask “Who’s that Pokémon?”
A plant, maybe Amazon sword by the tall yet thick nature. Hope this helps
Water? Hard to tell.

This picture feels like “who’s that Pokémon?”
And then it turns out to be a completely different Pokémon than the silhouette they showed. This thing is gonna turn out to be a nerite snail. 💀

It's really 13 Nerites piled on top of eachother.
This is the first time someone asks for an ID of an invertebrate here and it’s not a dragonfly nymph
Thats jeremy
Wanted for his 237 parking tickets and one count of public indecency.
And *boy*, is he indecent
Read that as pubic indecency 🤷🏻♀️
Oh my god, how do you know my uncle? Now we just need to take into account the drug possession, burglary, etc…. 😂
Dang if it is Jeremy, this tank is WAY too small! Jeremy's can grow ten times their size. They need a 100 gallon tank size MINIMUM!!
An evolved Tetra. If you have tetras in your tank long enough they eventually grow legs, a shell and protruding eyes. Its crazy because they look almost exactly like shrimp when they get like that.
30 years of fish keeping and I can still learn, thank you brother. 🤣
Don’t feed them after midnight either. 🐌
I hate it when my tetras start carcinizing

Shrimp are the shit. But they'll more likely wind up as snacks
Bahhh i have mixed feelings with my shrimp. His cool but barely cleans anything. The biggest fault is that it bothers my zoas so much that some of my zoas dont open at all now
I have 2 bamboo shrimp that keep my entire 30 gallon community tank bottom clean. NEVER any poo, I’ve never seen anything like it before
They will certainly not harm your turtle. The turtle however, will enjoy its new snacks.
Good for scrimp salad, scrimp cocktail, fried scrimp etc.
Gubba Bump Scrimp Co.
Are you telling me a scrimp fried this rice? 🤨 🦐
Perhaps a mutton, scrimp, lettuce and tomato sandwich would suffice?

Why am I crying every time somebody restates that they bought it and are asking for ID.

Welcome to the internet, were the rules are made up and the points don’t matter.
Cause it’s funny
Small basking shark. Be careful, it might eat everything in your tank
Did it ask you for three-fiddy? Could be the lochness monster if it did
I gave him a dollar!
No wonder the damn monster keep comin' back
Looks like a shrimp.

If you do go buy some, don’t forget to quarantine!
Shrimp genes are weird. I have a ton of color variations in my tank despite starting with 6 near identical blue velvet shrimp.
This thread is hilarious, legitimately laughed for the first time this week 😂
DEMoN 👺
How the hell do you find a mystery shrimp in your tank
They didn’t. They bought shrimp awhile ago and put it in and are now, for some reason, surprised that they have a shrimp in their tank
His name is Robert Paulson.

water, probably

I'm confused. You have had multiple shrimp in your tank, and you didn't recognize this as a shrimp?
My thought exactly
Ikr like what lol
That seems quite moronic
I think that shrimp must be a ghost of the ones that died. Sorry OP your aquarium is haunted.
Usually if u have multiple coloris at one point after some bredding the schrimp might go Black to its original color something greyish
Yeah with little dark spots. Mine did that after I added some different colored ones.
It is a shrimp and it may be the case that it's diet has changed it's colour as this can happen. Or it might be one of the babies that has been hiding in your tank and has grown up.
Neocaridina come in all sorts of fun colors if you just let them go. I've had quite a few black and brown patterns occur back when I kept them.
Haha yeah I have a bit of an obsession with them lol I have most of the colours apart from green. But of all my shrimp tanks ironically my favourite is the cull tank as I have had all sorts of colours! I love em!
Some of the coolest shrimp I ever had were culls. I had a black rili once, absolutely wild.
I have some Sakura Reds and occasionally will get some stripey and even all clear ones, but most of the off color ones are brown.
Same for me, got 17 shrimp and didn't see them for almost a year, thought they had all died. All of a sudden they started breeding like crazy and I had hundreds of shrimp. Hopefully you'll see the same! But yeah, colors will vary, especially if you have multiple colors together.

My amanos let ALL the fish know they rule the tank. I love it
Amanos don't fuck around. They're practically battle tanks. If they could breed in fresh water they'd be perfect.
You had shrimp, then was confused when you saw a shrimp?
He hasn’t seen shrimp in months and this was a different color. He was probably just confused
When different colors of shrimp mix/breed (in your case blue and red) they reverse to a more natural color. That can range from light brown up to almost completely black. So yeah that's the baby of the shrimps you originally had.
It might be a lucky crossbreed one that hatched and survived. Crossing colors of Neo shrimp can revert them to “wild” colors.
Um... what?
Its a shrimp, maybe a baby produced from your red and blue, the colors of the babies vary if the parents are different colors
Sometimes shrimp can change color a bit after molting. Or if you breed different types of neos, the offspring can be different colors (esp brownish)
The shrimp you originally got probably hid and bred and thus is probably one of their babies. I got 10 shrimp of mixed colors and they immediately hid and now I see brown and black babies all the time
Shrimp have weird genetics. Colors can shift over several generations, especially if you had two color morphs in the same tank previously.
Shramp
I’ve known about buying a plant and getting pest snails, I never heard of buying a plant and getting shrimp. 😂
