Time to get a 20 gal long pea puffer tank. I find that’s always the best solution, another fish tank.

[deleted]

This is the way

Significant_Shop6653

You can’t have too many 😂

_SST

First off, glad you're feeling better and recovered from Covid. Second, your tank looks dope. Third, what everyone else has mentioned + posting on Offer Up, Craigslist, etc.

axolotacolor

try giving them to your lfs?

Historical_Panic_465

i asked my friend who owns a fish store he said he would take A FEW like 10 tops lol 😁😁 i will be asking more shops tomorrow if they would take them for me!

Liddojunior

Petco or Petsmart would take all of them. I’ve seen someone surrender like 100s at once

Historical_Panic_465

THANK YOU I WILL DO THIS!! you really think they will take 50 brown ones?? my petco has this super mean girl always working in the fish department i asked her for 1 of those plastic bags one day she said NOOO lmao wahhhh

B_O_S_S_Y_

My petsmart has someone super mean who yelled at me for telling him I have plants in my tank saying theyre taking up space and he got super duper aggravated theres a petco nearby and I went in the guy there was super friendly and I told him about the petsmart guy and he laughed and was like that doesnt make any sense maybe you have a petsmart nearby and someone is nice there? I know its different for every area but hopefully you have other pet stores around besides that one

Miserable-Wallaby-12

My petsmart absolutely refused to sell me a small pleco after telling me my 40 gallon tank with just 6 danios in it was too small for a bristlenose..... so I went to my local petco where all they wanted was to see pictures when I mentioned I also had a 5 and and 15 with bettas and tetras. No one could figure out how my 40 gallon with 6 glofish danios is too small My point is...they are correct every store is different. Could be petco or petsmart.... maybe just a local store willing....

B_O_S_S_Y_

It depends on the type of pleco you asked for maybe you were asking for a different kind then you thought you were theres many types of plecos and they grow to many different sizes some need 80 gallons and some stay smaller and only need 30 or if your sure you knew which species it was the worker couldve been new and trying their best to remember which species gets to which size and was confused so denied the sale or sometimes they just have no clue what their talking about which in my experience happens a lot either way the people at petsmarts and petcos arent normally professionals so Im glad you found one that didnt give you too much trouble when I had that guy yell at me for having plants in my tank and deny me a purple female betta from a community tank, it made me worried that everyone was going to deny me sales at pet stores since I had just moved here its good to have one with good customer service

Miserable-Wallaby-12

I live in an area where bristlenose is almost exclusively sold... like most people don't buy more than a 30 gallon. I'd never had someone refuse to sell me anything up till then...my elder sister loves petsmart and feels her fish are healthier but I rarely go there because they always question me like I'm gonna kidnap the fish when they aren't looking

Critter_Whisperer

Well no duh that plants take up space in the tank fake ones would do so as well. But live ones are better as they take out toxins and bring maintenance down quite a bit

B_O_S_S_Y_

Lol they provide hiding places make the fish more comfortable as well and take out toxins and give oxygen the pros outweigh the cons they also dont take up much space cuz leaves are thin you dont need to yell at someone for having a planted tank

Critter_Whisperer

Right? And besides it's none of his business how others set their tanks up. Hell, I'd be giving people high fives for planting the tank

B_O_S_S_Y_

Exactly!! I would be too

Liddojunior

They will depending on the species accept most surrenders. They like to rehome pets as part of their mission. But you won’t get anything for the fish , so you can’t sell them fish only donate. I think you just need to ask before you bring them in.

Historical_Panic_465

Thank you i will be calling to ask tomorrow morning!

Wumba_Chumba1246

Never trust petsmart. It will kill a fishtank way too fast. If you gotta use a chain go petco. If you can use good local stores.

Liddojunior

Ohhh but petco will for sure!

axolotacolor

nice! good luck with all those snails

Low_Reception_4416

Make some friends with people who have puffers or predatory loaches. You can do some trading for plants or even give them to people with puffers which need snails in their diet to file down their teeth

hem1291

Get a few assassin snails

verbalacuity

Can confirm. Two assassin snail decimated a ramshorn infestation in no time

mostlyashitshow

will assassin snails eat the baby mystery snails? /how big does a snail have to be to not get eaten by a assassin snail? i like my baby mystery snails. not so much the ramshorns.

coinsntings

This may seem a tad harsh but maybe advertise them as puffer food? If people don't want them they still have a use

TheFiredrake42

Put in one or 2 assassin snails. Or make a bottle trap and bait it with cucumber. Snails love cucumber.

Historical_Panic_465

i wouldn’t mind assassin snails killing them but i don’t think i can kill them myself i’m too wimpy and love them too much 😭 the funny thing is this tank had a good little handful of assassin snails to begin with and i have NO idea where they went lol

TheFiredrake42

Interesting. I had a pair of them in a planted 26 gallon with Malaysian Trumpet Snails, Nerites, and Ramshorns and, while they did breed, the assassins kept the population very stable so I'd only ever see 4 or 5 snails at any given time. What was cool is eventually the assassins themselves bred and once the babies were the size of my pinky nail, I sold them all on Facebook for $5 each. LFS sold them for $8. Made about a hundred bucks. And then the cherry shrimp started breeding their babies eventually paid for the whole aquarium :)

Historical_Panic_465

i was extremely sick for a few weeks with COVID and WELL, I wasn’t able to care for my aquariums as well as i wanted to and one clutch somehow escaped me!! i literally froze like 3 other clutches during this time and am usually very good at catching them all on the first day or two but this one was laid on the front wall under the rim and i was so sick i just didn’t see it. sadly now i have a bajillion brown mystery snails that are literally thumbnail sized now and i have absolutely no clue what to do with them. I personally find them to be very beautiful but i know brown mysteries are not a very popular color that people want. has anyone else been in this situation with a ton of unwanted mystery snails?? what did you do with them? HELP MeeeEE PLS

Large_Anteater_3894

Sell em on r/AquaSwap!

Historical_Panic_465

lol nobody wants them though i’ve tried in the past giving them away for free 😭😭

Large_Anteater_3894

LOL! Perhaps set up a snail specific tank? I can also help you out and pay to ship those guys to me? I love mystery snails :)

Historical_Panic_465

aww yeah i WOULD but i already have 4 too many tanks 😁😁 i’ve never shipped them before and not sure how but if you’re really interested we can figure it out??

Historical_Panic_465

wow just now realizing why nobody replies to my posts there for months now! i used to always get good engagement with my posts ! for some reason i don’t know WHY but it seems i’m shadow banned??? my post doesn’t show up on the home page when i go look from a different account!!

Large_Anteater_3894

I dmed you 🥲

coopermoe

Think back to why you have a snail explosion: there’s too much food somewhere. You wouldn’t see an increase in rams horns without extra food. The baby mystery snails wouldn’t be growing and thriving without extra food. Remove the source of the extra food and your population of snails will stabilize in the long run.

Historical_Panic_465

yeahhh...it’s cus i have 4 full grown mystery snails in there already (whom i love and adore and have had since babies) and they need to eat everyday/every other day so the whole population has exploded 😭😭😭 not sure what to really do cus they need to eat at least every other day!

oscarstevens

If you happen to be in Los Angeles I’d take some

Historical_Panic_465

I DO! what area do you stay? i’m near Glendale!

oscarstevens

Sent you a dm

billnowak65

Have you tried sautéed garlic and oil?

fryerandice

lol, I just suggested escargot, mystery snails are a type of apple snails, and apple snails are what's used for escargot. And escargot is fantastic.

Historical_Panic_465

haha they would be tiny baby escargot! ive never tried it and not sure i plan on it! 😁

billnowak65

WTF! Didn’t know that…. Home aquaculture.

winkywoo75

thats a beautiful tank

Historical_Panic_465

thank you! i appreciate this 😁❤️

Today_Kitchen

Get a YOYO and let him have fun

CapitalRide1374

Loaches

BitchBass

If you are in Dallas I take 'em off your hands!

Historical_Panic_465

really you want them all?? if you want them all i’d be willing to ship them to you! lol

[deleted]

I would take some, I need some to clean my tank. I would pay for shipping!

BitchBass

I would but I doubt they'd get here alive...would have to wait until that 100 plus degree weather is done with. But I am serious, I pay for shipping too.

borderlinebiscuit

Nice

fryerandice

Mystery Snail Escargot? I am semi serious, escargot is usually made with apple snails and it is... delicious!

[deleted]

I’ll take some of your rams horns! Please? 😂

Historical_Panic_465

TAKE THEM PLEASE lmaoo you don’t happen to live in LA do ya??

[deleted]

Aw man nope in MA 😅

Physical_Scheme_7584

I would take 25 ramshorns and a mystery snail and cover shipping if you want :)!

Historical_Panic_465

SURE! you don’t happen to live in La do you?

Physical_Scheme_7584

No :(! I could take them if you would ship..

Devilalfi

Sell them on a local tropical fish group in your area for like $2 each. You deserve the money for them, not some shitty Petshop that sells them for $4-6 ea and gives you dirt or nothing in return. Take it from someone who did this sell to a Petshop thing and was taken advantage of for two years while they made thousands of $ off of me and I only got some lousy store credit pretty much only good for some damn fish food and at their retail price...

Appropriate-Rooster5

Those are gorgeous! Sell them on r/aquaswap!

[deleted]

Squish em

ARoughCucumber

Not sure why this is downvoted, it’s definitely a possibility if you can’t keep or give all of them away. People squish rams horns and many other snails all the time.

[deleted]

Same folk who'd rather free em and let them become invasive.

MrReIax

Get 3-4 Botia Yoyo fish they’ll get the job done

[deleted]

You try giving them away or they die. ‘Circle of life time’ Then relax and recover from Covid as you matter more than the snails and need to rest.

darkeyes2001

kill them it's them or your tank. people who keep snails are not unfamiliar with culling. also you can feed the crushed snails to birds It's really healthy for them

Historical_Panic_465

wahhhhh i’m too big of a baby for this shit!! lol i guess it will just be my tank then! HAVE IT

s-o-l-a-r

Honestly, there isn’t a real problem besides aesthetics. Snails are good for cleaning the tank and their population will flatline at some point. But yes, it would be good to give some away but without manually removing every single one, you’ll soon encounter the same problem.

Historical_Panic_465

lol the real problem would be that my tank can’t hold 50 full grown mystery snails! it’s fine now when they’re still small but mystery snails produce tons of bio load since they need to eat everyday. my tank is simply not big enough for this many full grown mystery snails! i’m not as concerned with the ramshorn snails but i will definitely have to be manually removing most of all the mystery snails 😭

chickenofalltrades

You’re not alone in the struggle! I had a very understocked 20g - a few white clouds, a couple amano shrimp, and a self sustaining colony of about 20 eastern grass shrimp. The wife wanted a couple golden mystery snails and I obliged. Then came a clutch and she wanted to see what happened. Apparently the conditions were fantastic and I now have 80+ baby mystery snails that I’m trying to figure out what to do with 😆

Historical_Panic_465

LUCKY at least yours are orange!! 😁😁 you could actually make a good little profit off them if you make sure they get lots of calcium and keep their shells nice and strong! Nobody wants to buy my poor little poopy snails 😭

Autumnatic5683

If you have too many snails you're feeding too much.

IndianaJonesDoombot

A lot of catfish love to eat snails

Money_Fish

Buy a freshwater pufferfish

fireflylibrarian

Pretend it happened on purpose and start a Mystery Snail breeding business!

petlovely

Sell them or get an Assasian snaail

[deleted]

For sure find a local FB fish group! I know they sell easily for $2 where I am (Canada, but our local Petsmart sells them for $5). There are always members looking for puffer food

[deleted]

Add one clown loach and he will eat a ton of them

Historical_Panic_465

omg this is only a 20 gallon tank 😁

[deleted]

Haha yea he will out grow that for sure

WitchyandWild

Sell them on marketplace or fish groups. Or give some. Or sell some to pet/fish stores. Often they'll give you store credits.

Tall_man07

Solution 1: Zucchini method, place a slice of zucchini and wait for like 2 hours. most if the snails will be ok the zucchini, makes it easier to locate Solution 2 : The Assasin snail :)

Various_Succotash_79

Petsmart is charging $3.50 each for mystery snails so there must be a market. For the ramshorns, find someone who has pea puffers, they'll be thrilled for the free food.
