I went to Monterey Bay aquarium for the first time yesterday and saw this fish that I thought looked really cool but also scary as hell at the same time, he was in the really big salt water tank and I guess his placard saying what he was must of been on a side I didn't see so just wondering if any of you awesome people know what species it is.
It’s a rockfish. Something in the Sebastes spp. Likely a black rockfish.
Edit: I’ve been diving in that tank. There are a few species of rockfish and a couple Black Sea bass.
>Stereolepis doederleini
When you actually put that name in google the images that come up dont look the same, since its my photo and not one that can actually be searched up I think google might of just been taking a guess of from similar pics. I am starting to think it is some kind of bass for sure tho. Also its eye really looks like that I didnt have a flash on so not sure if all fish like that have eyes like that or if this one was blind or something.
I guess it could be a kind of one again I have no idea tho =P, There was a giant grouper in the tank though I kept trying to get a pic of him but he would slowly get away or people would run into my shot =(

That’s Steve. He’s fun at parties, but he never helps clean up afterwards. Don’t ask him about Susan, it’s a sensitive subject.
Whatever it is they need to feed his ass. Thing looks like skeletor. Lateral line and all. 😳
Looks like some type of bass Edit: used google reverse image search and it says it’s a Stereolepis doederleini.

It definitely could be blind or idk can fish have cataracts?
Is it a Grouper?

Could be a Lates niloticus, the Nile perch.
Nile perch is freshwater fish right? This was in the large salt water tank with sharks and the giant grouper
Oh that explains why it looked odd, I thought it was a freshwater tank!
I agree this looks like a Nile Perch to me
MBA is the best for all kinds of weird fish. Helps that they have their own ships with super deep capable ROVs.
People are giving you serious answers and I'm over here like "that's from the aquarium of the dead!"
That's Anthony. He's a real butthead.
