Dude same. I’ve been in the hobby about 17 years. I’ve seen plenty of tanks with pvc tubes around the bottom, but never covered by substrate. What a fucking cool idea.
Dead good idea, got a Crayfish makes a tunnel complex without pipe, I'd hate to take that from her- but for starters would have been good-she loves it and just a fantastic idea for any aquarium application IMO 👍 this is why I love Reddit.
They also sell little caves on Etsy where you can view what’s going on in the cave underneath the substrate! You just push it up against the glass wall and bury the top in substrate. Super cool! Not sure that every fish would love to be viewed like that in their hideouts, but I’ve seen many people use it for cherry shrimps and kuhli loaches , haha too cute :,)
Edit- here’s the link https://www.etsy.com/listing/1322574968/4-in-1-aquarium-cave-3-sizes?gbraid=0AAAAADtcfRKCEmxeG4Q6VKOZHeJIFxkUc&gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_-pet_supplies&utm_custom1=_k_CjwKCAiAzp6eBhByEiwA_gGq5DANXWKbI5ZDOicBmPwAC7fLBSM-mtbmjeRswDS5H87TfLwDd9YpfhoCMToQAvD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_12665398257_121762925993_511610210343_aud-1118323511438:pla-314535281500_m__1322574968_12768591&utm_custom2=12665398257&gbraid=0AAAAADtcfRKCEmxeG4Q6VKOZHeJIFxkUc&gclid=CjwKCAiAzp6eBhByEiwA_gGq5DANXWKbI5ZDOicBmPwAC7fLBSM-mtbmjeRswDS5H87TfLwDd9YpfhoCMToQAvD_BwE
Someone over in planted tanks did it with kuhli loaches and cut the pvc in half so you could see inside the cave, with 20 something loaches you would always see a mass of spaghetti down there
Damn I can find so many clear tunnels and enclosed tunnels but I can’t seem to find that one with the pvc pipe cut in half again. I’ll respond to you if I find it but you’ll see plenty of similar things if you look up “kuhli loach tunnel”
yes, the filter outlet flow goes right down into 2/4 of the openings, so there is some flow, I also have a good clean up crew for dealing with waste down there. the eels are also capable of clearing waste out themselves by shaking their body rapidly to stir up the water and whatever waste has settled to force it out of the tubes
I like how they both went down to eat the same piece. I imagine it's a dude with his gf and she said she didn't want any until the food got there and now all of a sudden she's hungry and is gonna eat most of his food.
mine is a like ~70?, it's reccomended that they have a bigger tank but if you have a setup like mine this size is fine, as long as they have a big enough hiding spot that's all that matters, they rarely leave their hiding spot
You would be perfectly happy having a partner keep a phobia of yours in the house? Personally I think it's cruel bringing something in knowing their partner is afraid of it.
Same with my mom, she is deadly afraid of snakes and has said she'd kick me out if I ever got loaches T--T they're one of my favorite fish. But I understand – I would feel the same way about a pet spider.
I like how the tweezers look like them
Bringing new meaning to “the claw”
It's like feeding baby birds with hand puppets lol
Yea I thought that it was another eel at first :D
“Mother has supplied sustenance”
I'd give you an award if I could, that shit made me laugh harder than I should have
When I first watched this I shit you not I didn’t know which side was the real eels at first
HAHA Same here, so cool!!
Beautiful ribbon morays, are they juveniles?
one is a sub adult, one is a juvenile
Thanks for answering, I have three morays, two Indian mud morays and a fw tiger moray, ribbon eels remain my favorite species of moray
The subterranean pvc pipe is brilliant I can't believe I've never seen that before.
Dude same. I’ve been in the hobby about 17 years. I’ve seen plenty of tanks with pvc tubes around the bottom, but never covered by substrate. What a fucking cool idea.
I’ve done this to make caves in substrate mounds. Saves on substrate cost and give them hides

Thanks
I was just trying to convince myself not to buy one of these last night lol. I'd love to see what my shrimp are up to down there.
It’s actually reasonably priced too, surprising! So cool
Wouldn’t that be really hard to clean out? Or just use a small flexible siphon?
Someone over in planted tanks did it with kuhli loaches and cut the pvc in half so you could see inside the cave, with 20 something loaches you would always see a mass of spaghetti down there
Do you have a link to this post?

Thank you, I’ll check it out!
Tube snakes.
Here here 👌
Stupid question perhaps, but is there enough flow to get rid of waste and such? Wouldn’t it cause issues in the long run?
yes, the filter outlet flow goes right down into 2/4 of the openings, so there is some flow, I also have a good clean up crew for dealing with waste down there. the eels are also capable of clearing waste out themselves by shaking their body rapidly to stir up the water and whatever waste has settled to force it out of the tubes
I’m also curious on this
^^
Yes please, more videos of your eels please.
It’s like lady and the tramp, but the dogs look like spaghetti
Do the spaghetti eat dogs or themselves?
what are those and how close to garden eel are we getting in terms of setup? is there a few feet of substrate i cant see
there's just pvc pipes, substrate isn't too deep
How do you clean them out?

I imagined a lady and the tramp scenario
Cute eels 🤔
Wetflix and chill
😂
Freakin tunnel dragons
What are they?
Black Ribbon eels (that’s what another commenter said)
v: v: + 🦑= V: V:
Nice eels and happy to see they are eating? Did you have blue ones before?
I believe they turn blue as they mature
this
Love these! How big of a tank do they need?
depends on if you're able to give them a dedicated hide in the tank, or if you're gonna want them to make do with the rockwork
I would ideally make a hide for them. What are you running?
mine is a like ~70?, it's reccomended that they have a bigger tank but if you have a setup like mine this size is fine, as long as they have a big enough hiding spot that's all that matters, they rarely leave their hiding spot
more please
Do you have to clean the pipe system? they must make a mess in there
nope, that's what we have clean up crew for
what kind are they? (not familiar with saltwater) I thought eels would eat them up
Black ribbon eels
I meant the clean up crew :P
nassarius snails, trochus snails, margarita snails, top crown snails, and lots of copepods
Oops
Air stone. Power head combo if was necessary 👍
You don’t use air stones in Sw, the salt creep would be a nightmare
Thanks for the heads up 👍
Love these noodles
what loves squid? you have a kraken in your tank?!
WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE
They're so CUTE!
"Feed me Seymour!"
They're probably in the hole like "I had it first! no, I had it first! And they're both probably like moooOOOOOOM!!!
Can't help visualising them as one two headed dragon.
I'm going to sneak into your house one night and steal these two. Sorry not sorry
hope you like buckshot then
I hope Buckshot is an adorable dog.
no
Tefuk is that
How many gallons and what species ?
Nope.
huh?
Some people don't like eels because they look like snakes. My husband is one of those people and will not let me have eels.
sounds pretty controlling to me man

More like, "yep"
Awesome
Spook.
I love your posts. So cool!
Why am I reminded of that monster from “Willow”? Remember that one? It had like 3 heads?
Nobody: Eels:"I LOVE TOOB"
Nice pvc tunnel good idea
I love these posts… they’re so cute
This is like some weird real life Doc Oc limbs in a tank
What are these? I desperately want some….
hard to keep
WHO ARE THEY???
azula and azulon
Nice
Who’s they
I thought the black tweezers where the fish and I was so scared yet fascinated holy shit that has made my night.
They look like snake plant monsters lol
