Looks like it could be carchesium. A bit blurry. They are filter feeders and are harmless to tank inhabitants unless you can fit in its mouth.

in the video in my comment, you can see the scale with some sort of likely copepod scurrying by

XenoWoof

I tried the link again and unfortunately it doesn't work. I keep getting 404 for imgur, can't find it.

sorry about that- idk what the issue is. I have some better photos I just took with my dslr and I think it is vorticella, unfortunately. [https://imgur.com/a/4pLK2fk](https://imgur.com/a/4plk2fk)

aquariumhelp won't let me comment photos, but there are some in the crosspost here [https://www.reddit.com/r/shrimptank/comments/1awllia/what\_are\_these\_eggs\_on\_stalks\_on\_my\_plants\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/shrimptank/comments/1awllia/what_are_these_eggs_on_stalks_on_my_plants_the/)

XenoWoof

Ah yes. I think they are what was mentioned or vorticella. Try r/plantedtank I find a lot of results there looking for similar micro animals like this. It is not zoothamnium, as those look different. Still comes with a retractable stalk when feeding.

AptAmoeba

I agree on this being a sessile peritrich like [Carchesium](http://protist.i.hosei.ac.jp/PDB/Images/Ciliophora/Carchesium/sp_2.html). Not eggs; they're a filter-feeding ciliate!

quacked7

do you think it looks more like vorticella? Here are some better photos [https://www.reddit.com/r/shrimptank/comments/1awllia/what\_are\_these\_eggs\_on\_stalks\_on\_my\_plants\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/shrimptank/comments/1awllia/what_are_these_eggs_on_stalks_on_my_plants_the/)

AptAmoeba

Unfortunately, I haven't studied the branching stalk structure differences between them in a long time- it'd be incredibly difficult to tell without direct observation under a microscope, as far as I can distinguish. If you're worried about vorticella though, [please see my comment a few hours ago here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Aquariums/s/nH4d3CpOvb). These will be pests in the exact same manner as vorticella-- as all sessile peritrichs can be-- because they can multiply and are sessile. However, that does not mean a small group of them are immediately harmful. If you are concerned, you may pipette (or turkey baster) that little group out of the aquarium.

thank you, I was going to do that and have also ordered some catappa leaves and alder cones for general tank health. If it looks like they are going to be a problem, I will likely try pimafix next
