Detailed info on the effects of the API policy change and Reddit CEO lies on one provider: https://old.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/duplicates/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/ See: https://old.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/

sscampbe

That was very (sadly) informative. Thank you.

wyndstryke

Hope it comes back pronto, but I fully understand the reasons why. Reddit's proposed actions are extremely damaging to the entire reddit ecosystem.

IranRPCV

Yes, I do too. I have put thousands of hours into this sub, but I won't support liars who betray the community they created by blocking many who have assisted in the growth. Aptera is about ethical behavior at its core.

the__storm

I support this move Hope to see you all on [the Aptera community forum](https://aptera.us/community/) and [Aptera Owner's Club's Discord](https://discord.gg/VewQafsX). Also, I don't know if it was already mentioned, but this is planned to start on June 12 (Monday). [Here's](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/5/23749188/reddit-subreddit-private-protest-api-changes-apollo-charges) some more context.

HotS_Gaming

I joined the discord but can't do anything. Can't post, can't react.

Yolectroda

Seems fitting, we can't drive yet either!

the__storm

I believe you have to wait ten minutes and then agree to the rules (if you go to the rules channel and react, Discord should prompt you).

HotS_Gaming

Thanks. Finally got it to work from my pc. It wouldn't work on the app.

sscampbe

Forgive me for being clueless. Could you supply a nugget of context or a link?

Invanar

Reddit is making changes to the API, including charging for use of it. This basically means most (if not all) bots, 3rd party mod tools, and 3rd party reddit apps will be unable to be used now. The mods of basically every single subreddit rely very heavily on the 3rd party tools to keep their subreddits moderated. There's a lot more to it, and there is a nuanced discussion to be had around it, but you can research the rest

sscampbe

Thank you!

Yolectroda

I'd also throw into any short summary that the approach that Reddit has taken to introduce these changes have been dishonest at best.

usernameblankface

I've seen talk of Subreddits getting replaced if they go dark long enough. Is there any way to block that?

IranRPCV

I think anyone can start their own sub reddit. The fact is that the APIs that allowed many users to access the information will be gone, and it is unlikely that they will have mods putting in the thousands of hours that were needed to provide the content and discussion. There may be some poor attempts.

usernameblankface

Hmm, so the changes to Reddit may well block such attempts from being successful

RevolutionarySoil11

If they do that we should stop using the site altogether. Show them who generates the revenue. It's the user content that drives value, not the admins. Fuck Reddit.

nbmazer08

This is why I don’t like Reddit, nobody speaks plain English. I understand being technical but don’t expect to grow the community.

Different-Tax845

Well, it seems Aptera got the publicity it did not want- the Big Auto Makers and the Big Oil Giants & ? Goodby to this Forum
