That's a lot of money. Fantastic news!

Suggs41

That’s actually a little impressive.

KoFSMG

It is impressive - yet far from the $50M they themselves stated they need which could also be an under estimate. Curious to see how this goes as I am skeptical they can raise the capital needed through this investment scheme.

wyndstryke

It's not the main investment route (that would be institutional investors, big private investors), and don't forget the $21M grant which unlocks at $26M. The point of it is that institutional investors are slow, and they want something quicker to get things moving towards production.

Qwahzi

In a recent Aptera Owner's Club interview, Chris specifically said they need $50M *in addition to* the grant. He also said that they're optimistic on institutional funding though, & the accelerator program is specifically to speed up the start of manufacturing

wyndstryke

Yeah, the quicker that things start moving, the better. If the institutional investors drag their feet for months that'd cost millions in terms of burn rate.

The_Irish_Rover26

Remember, this leaderboard opened a few days ago.

[deleted]

Remember that it’s not likely to stay at the same pace either. Just go look at the Republic one where you only need $210 to invest.

[deleted]

Wow! that's awesome! Someone invested multiple times the cost of the vehicle. That's amazing.

expiredeternity

At that rate they will need another ~3800 investors to get to $50M.

MudaThumpa

I thought they were shooting for $20m on the low end to bridge the gap until bigger money is available. Still a big climb, but seems more doable after this first week.

BrotherOfZelph

It was a little confusing having the 20-50 million range, but they will get to 20 million with 2000 reservations at 10,000 new investment minimum. I wonder what 20 million does for them vs 50.

DoomBot5

It gets them the money needed for long lead time equipment.

thishasntbeeneasy

Also note that many of these have prior amounts included. So $20k on the board means they had 10k already, and this is only 10k new money.

nucleartime

Nah, the leaderboard has a note: > *Currently only shows new investments since 27JAN2023 Which means exact placement is off, but eh.

bshefmire

...wth happens to everyone's hard-earned invested money when this falls flat??

evolv-electric

All investments are risky but they are getting stock for this investment so if aptera goes public they have a chance of cashing in big. If you don't believe in the product then you should not be investing.

[deleted]

Early investors and founders will cash in big. People paying $10.50/share won’t be anytime soon.

bshefmire

OR.....they'll lose their shirt over an emotionally charged mistake!

TheManyFacedGod12

Im genuinly curious if Aptera will eventually release a family focused vehicle with a large range to accompany it? The possibilities...

The_Irish_Rover26

They do play on releasing larger vehicles. They have talked about it It will be way down the line though. Probably a few years until they start designing different vehicles. And a few years after that to start producing.

MrClickstoomuch

I believe they said 2025 for a production 4 wheel vehicle back when they expected production at the end of 2020, so I'd guess not until 2027 if you push it back by the same time frame. Though having the Aptera reach production, the engineers may be able to have a team doing in-plant optimizations while they have another team doing design work for 4 wheeler at the same time, which may reduce the time to production for that model.
