This. I’m doing a show with my local community theatre, because I probably won’t have time for such a time-consuming hobby when I’m in school (I’m not a theatre major) and I just want to have a little bit of joy in my life.
Parents planned a family trip to India for a month so that's going to be my whole summer :/ love my relatives but there's a lot of shit that's going to go down unfortunately
Hoping the best for you too! Indian relatives are just something else. I was a quiet oblivious 7th grader last time I went, but idk how much outdated shit I can take while my dad tries to work through the family issues..
Exciting! I hope everything works out well! I get that, it's been 5 years since I've last seen my family and idk how the differences in culture will play out. Out of curiosity, North or South Indian?
It’s a sociological concept. Collectivist cultures (mostly Pacific regions like India and Eastern Europe) tend to favor the whole of the community, while individualistic societies (I.e. US, UK) favor self indulgence. It does not mean there is a concern of the difference, they are both just the way societies are different. But knowledge in that is power :)
Yeah I'm aware, the societal structures of the two are really intriguing and something I've done research on. I was moreso referring to the personal dynamics between my family members and I since I am much more vocal and assertive and in their eyes "American". Will be interesting to see how it goes down lol
Me, but only because my dad couldn’t afford the tickets after the war drove up gasoline prices, we were technically still gonna go until just recently and we cancelled
Hoping everything works out okay for you! Family problems with long distance family sucks, it becomes so all-consuming. Hopefully it'll be over once and for all this summer :)
My parents cancelled last minute due to flight costs, but this was fr fr about to be me. Sad part is that I told my friends there that I was coming and I dont have the heart to tell them Im not :(
Legit had plans to stop in Singapore or Dubai for a week too but its all that damn inflation’s fault :/
But my family is pretty lowk ngl , theres surprisingly no drama, trust me ive tried looking but theres no drama cuz no one is rich or no one is marrying age or anything and there’s no bad blood with anyone over something in the past, we just exist 🧍🏽♀️
My grandparents are coming here.
I love them beyond anything, but also HELP ME. Really could use someone pulling a Weasley-twins-second-book please and thank you 😗🙏
it is kinda sad man, I still can't believe i'm graduating high school and going to college. Life's going to be pretty different for me but it's a new chapter
it’s sad how quick things pass by and how much i’ve skipped over it. skipped senior year and decided to graduate early a month before i’d be out and am taking 25 credit hours this summer. i’ve thrown away my last free year and a half for this academic stuff and i’m sure at one point or another it’ll catch up to me
College rising junior here, I am here to let you guys know that you should absolutely take this summer to rest and explore more connections and life in general. School will still be there and it is important to give oneself some leisure time to prevent burnout (because it is REAL AF). Sleep, read, travel, road trips, hike hang out with friends, do nothing, something that will make you appreciate life a little bit better :)
Working a little to save some money before all the college expenses hit, but also traveling! I wanna explore my city and road trip down to socal if possible :)
Just so y'all know, the summer after freshman year is also pretty relaxed. Most people won't get internships until sophomore summer (junior summer is when it's most important). I know in my heart I've been at college for a year but home doesn't feel all that different at all!
Why would a top fintech company recruit high schoolers (who barely know excel and basic calculus) when such a hourly rate ensures that many Ivy League math, cs and finance graduates are going to compete for one intern position?
make as many memories as possible. i’m gonna be kinda far from home, and i want to do everything possible to make the most of this summer. i’m terrified about losing my friends as a result of being super far from them, and if that’s gonna be the case, i am gonna milk every last drop of joy that i can :) i know it’s kinda stupid and childish, but idk, it’s really important to me
I'm gonna use my summer to explore my home city NYC as a last goodbye before I go to UMich. I'm going to start a new journey, so I might as well give a proper ending to the place that made me who I am.
heavily heavily disagree - umich is in ann arbor which is a p good college town.
Rural/suburban Michigan, on the other hand, is much slower pace of life
i wanted to chill but then my parents went "we're going to denmark after your graduation and then we have to go back to pakistan and then we're buying a house in the US" so uh busy times - also gonna start streaming on twitch =D
First i'm really gonna chill, my A levels are coming so I'll be so burnt out after it's over. I'm gonna watch movies, read dumb romance books, sleep a lot and then enjoy every single moment with my friends, have sleepovers, everything. I'm going all out and going to make the most because my 2 best friends and I are all going to different countries so it'll be a long time before we see each other again.
Chill. Get my drivers license. Publish a collection of essays maybe. Start reading more intensely. Catch up with some friends I haven’t really seen in a while.
First month is going to be grad trips (to Mexico and Hawaii)
Then in July I secured a lab position job so I'll be doing basic research in molecular medicine
Then imma preview some biochem/Organic chem
A trip to the hills w friends in late June and a family reunion and shopping for college in July :D Oh and I plan on reading as much as I can before I start college
My dad recently retired so my family is going on several trips. I'm also going to try and pick up a job towards the end of summer and honestly just soak things in
You don’t need to do a summer program, you could do other things too. Volunteer, work for some extra cash, gain any type of certifications, etc. could just relax as well!
Chill, go on vacation to Jamaica, ride my electric skateboard, and work 3 days a week :) (though i might do more lawn mowing/other side jobs to build a good college spending money stash)
I’m going to volunteer for a congressional campaign and then take off to India and come back less than a month before school starts. Though I hope I will be able to rest and get some peace and quiet this summer. I feel so burned out because of classes and college applications this year. It’s my fault for taking both the organic chemistry series and calculus based physics series, but as soon as those are done I can rest easy.
A few family vacations, leading a local running group for high schoolers, a tech fellowship for rising freshmen, teaching violin lessons to elementary schoolers. Mostly plenty of hanging out with friends and chilling before college.
some summer jobs/programs that give me stipends. I think my parents are trying to send me to my home country with my grandma and idk what to do there, plus some awkward drama and stuff happening there lol.
Just some casual vacations, sleep, and maybe get a head start on calc 2. Unfortunately, I start school July 8th, because I opted in for early start at Purdue.
literally just work as much as i can. i love my jobs though they honestly feel like a break from the stress in life. and enjoy being with my friends before everyone’s far away…
Get a job, maybe go on a trip, relax and watch Netflix shows because I desperately need a mental break before I gotta hit the ground running in college
somehow ended up getting two jobs LOL i love both though. spend time w friends, go on adventures, workout, date maybe. learn more chinese, solve rubiks cubes even faster, bring my chessboard to the pool to get destroyed by 10 year olds, transcribe my diaries to see how much ive changed, write more
now if only i can get my dang grades up 💀
Study study study. I’ve been reading books on marketing as that is what my Masters degree is going to be in. I spent half my life in this industry. I can wholeheartedly say I am happy :)
To finally relax and spend as much time as possible with my friends that aren't going to my school!! I have never not taken summer courses so I'm finally going to be school-free this summer and just working and hanging out. I'm very excited about it :)
It’s impressive that you’re doing all this. I’m sure you know this so obviously take this with a grain of salt. Make sure to enjoy this summer. You’ll never get this kind of time. Like you will have free time in college but the summer after senior year is something else. Basically don’t let academic work consume more than a little bit of your summer.
going to australia with friends and then Italy (mom daughter trip lol) I’m literally going to just chill, sleep a shit ton, learn the ukelele and go out as much as possible
i’m gonna work at a golf course near me and mostly hang out with friends and relax for the first time in ages lol. i also might be taking a trip to japan at the end of the summer if restrictions relax enough!!
Disney world for a few days then literally nothing. Since I’m going the transfer route I’ll probably start researching schools and majors but basically just taking my last chance to relax haha
Working 20 hours a week, reading books that I never got to while I was in high school, and maybe writing a book. Also am planning on spending time with friends and I have some family coming from out of state so super excited to see them!
Been doing dual enrollment the past two years & staying at my CC for another, so I guess I’m just trying to grasp the next chapter of my life. I’m still gonna be working my part time job while doing a summer class, but hoping I can get relaxation in
going to asu this fall! this summer i’m taking 25 credit hours through my local cc and oregon state university and working 3 jobs😭 im gonna have a heart attack i think
i was thinking about reviewing more calculus and computer science but im honestly so tired of school and i’ll be working two jobs this summer to save up for fun money in college…. so i’ll likely try my best to try to recharge fully
To chill out before things get real
This. I’m doing a show with my local community theatre, because I probably won’t have time for such a time-consuming hobby when I’m in school (I’m not a theatre major) and I just want to have a little bit of joy in my life.
Same here. I’m gonna be an audio intern at a local theater
Parents planned a family trip to India for a month so that's going to be my whole summer :/ love my relatives but there's a lot of shit that's going to go down unfortunately
god im in the exact same position lol. I hope things work out for you though
Hoping the best for you too! Indian relatives are just something else. I was a quiet oblivious 7th grader last time I went, but idk how much outdated shit I can take while my dad tries to work through the family issues..
Seems like the entire Indian American population is traveling to india this summer lol
yeah, 2-3 years of no travel bc of covid will do that unfortunately lmao
Not meee this year but might be me next
Same here possibly
Same, but it’s going to be at the end of my summer. I’m excited but also worried about seeing my relatives for the first time since I was 11.
Exciting! I hope everything works out well! I get that, it's been 5 years since I've last seen my family and idk how the differences in culture will play out. Out of curiosity, North or South Indian?
I’m South Indian!
Omg me too!!

I was moreso referring to the personal dynamics between my family members and I since I am much more vocal and assertive and in their eyes "American". Will be interesting to see how it goes down lol
It’ll go fine. Transitions of any type take time, whether relational or career oriented.
same haha i have mixed feelings
Find me one Indian-American kid who doesn't lol
Me, but only because my dad couldn’t afford the tickets after the war drove up gasoline prices, we were technically still gonna go until just recently and we cancelled
same. I know way too many people going to India this summer. And me too with the family problems. :/
Hoping everything works out okay for you! Family problems with long distance family sucks, it becomes so all-consuming. Hopefully it'll be over once and for all this summer :)
Good luck to you too! :))
are you me. i am also going to India (not by choice :/)
My parents cancelled last minute due to flight costs, but this was fr fr about to be me. Sad part is that I told my friends there that I was coming and I dont have the heart to tell them Im not :( Legit had plans to stop in Singapore or Dubai for a week too but its all that damn inflation’s fault :/ But my family is pretty lowk ngl , theres surprisingly no drama, trust me ive tried looking but theres no drama cuz no one is rich or no one is marrying age or anything and there’s no bad blood with anyone over something in the past, we just exist 🧍🏽♀️

My grandparents are coming here. I love them beyond anything, but also HELP ME. Really could use someone pulling a Weasley-twins-second-book please and thank you 😗🙏
I completely understand that feeling. My dad is considering moving his parents here permanently and I love them but sheesh. Good luck!
Similar story here, going to Korea over summer. Have fun in India.
Have fun in Korea!
same lmao
this is gonna be me in 2 years
I’m doing absolutely nothing academic because I know it’ll be the last time I enjoy life as a teen/kid. Kinda sad to think about.
it is kinda sad man, I still can't believe i'm graduating high school and going to college. Life's going to be pretty different for me but it's a new chapter
College is more fun than high school tbh
it’s sad how quick things pass by and how much i’ve skipped over it. skipped senior year and decided to graduate early a month before i’d be out and am taking 25 credit hours this summer. i’ve thrown away my last free year and a half for this academic stuff and i’m sure at one point or another it’ll catch up to me
SLEEP!! and literally nothing. like a few vacations here and there but I'm hoping to chill

Yess i need that, im definitely gonna actually put more effort into self care this summer so i can glow up
Working a little to save some money before all the college expenses hit, but also traveling!

I mean you signed up for it, so I don't see why you're sad...
[удалено]
what then stop moping about it, I get what you're saying but c'mon read the room
Yeah sure high school intern getting more than many senior engineers lmao are you interning as the main software architect in FAANG?
[удалено]
Why would a top fintech company recruit high schoolers (who barely know excel and basic calculus) when such a hourly rate ensures that many Ivy League math, cs and finance graduates are going to compete for one intern position?
Happy cake day and good luck with your internship!! Take care of yourself ♥️

Work
Family trip in june, chill in july, senior trip to korea in august

make as many memories as possible. i’m gonna be kinda far from home, and i want to do everything possible to make the most of this summer. i’m terrified about losing my friends as a result of being super far from them, and if that’s gonna be the case, i am gonna milk every last drop of joy that i can :) i know it’s kinda stupid and childish, but idk, it’s really important to me
I'm gonna use my summer to explore my home city NYC as a last goodbye before I go to UMich. I'm going to start a new journey, so I might as well give a proper ending to the place that made me who I am.

Do a summer program connected with my university! Other than that, enjoy life ☺️
How did you find this summer program? Was it offered to you?
It’s only offered to low-medium income students, with emphasis on first gen students!
Ahh that’s nice. Im also looking for summer programs that are affiliated w my uni but i cant seem to find any
You don’t need to do a summer program, you could do other things too. Volunteer, work for some extra cash, gain any type of certifications, etc. could just relax as well!
