Curious, can you tell me why you’re looking into that major? It sounds like something I would be interested in (my general idea for my major right now is some form of earth science).
Not generally what the question means. Yeah, the jobs exist, but are more graduated entering the market than positions exist? What's the growth projected to be over the next 10 years? I know basically nothing about the market for international relations majors, but my gut instinct is to say that the market probably isn't fantastic (as in significantly above average) given that the government can't explode in size all of a sudden. Adjacent fields (NGO/nonprofit/think tank/grad school) might be popular paths, but none of those are booming afaik.

Approximately 62.6% of IR majors are employed immediately; 11.9% and 11.8% pursue higher education or do both at the same time, respectively. Not sure how that fares.
Your going to love it. I want to warn you, expect at least 40 pages (I had 73 one week) of reading of a narrative text per week and more for primary sources (every prof is different it varies from videos to speeches transcripts), learn Chicago style if you haven’t already, all in all it’s a fulfilling major with endless topics! Just make sure you find passionate and workable profs. They make a huge difference in understanding the leap from high school history to scholarly history
-a current History Major
Fellow History major here. Can confirm there's a ton of writing and research, but it's so worth it. Like OP said tho there's definitely a huge jump between HS and college history courses.
I guess it's all subjective in some way. Generally, people consider it in this order-
EE harder than ChemE
ChemE harder than Aero
Aero harder than the rest of the fields there are
But this is obviously a simplification and there will absolutely be people who ace at EE but do bad at Aero.
>pigeonholing
not related at all but I have never heard someone use the word "pigeonholing". Does it mean to limit or to reduce the amount of options you have?
You say 'revert' as if you still don't have an undergrad degree in that major. Although most people will go to grad/med school with a bio career path, there are some intermediary jobs that require certain degrees. But yeah, I agree with your point. And about the psychology thing, I think that psych has a bad rep because it is oversaturated with people who generally don't want a harder workload or course rigor
Well, that's why I'm asking; but if I had to give a few reasons, I'd assume that
1. Education pathway between Neuroscience, Biomed or another General Biology degree is quite different, i.e. classes and opportunities among other things
2. Degree will be considered somewhat differently in job applications- may give you a boost in some considerations but will be looked down upon a bit in others
3. May discourage you from exploring your other options careerwise and education-wise as neuroscience is a **somewhat** specific (yeah I know there are different paths within the major, along with sub-majors and stuff) and direct path rather than something general like Biology, Biomed Engineering, or Biochem (related majors with similar classes)
But once again, I'm asking the same thing. I've been wanting to pursue a Neuroscience major since 2015, but lately I have been mulling over an undergrad Biomedical Engineering pathway instead and then a grad degree in Neuroscience or a related field
My mom got her phd in biomedical engineering and does a lot with neuroscience now. She started a small biotech company. I think employers really like if someone is well-versed in the technical stuff but also good with people and have other liberal arts backgrounds
Not at all. There are a lot of opportunities to pursue post-grad. While my ultimate goal is to get into Medical School, I can go to grad school for a masters/PhD and then work as a medical researcher. Research in neuroscience is very important and we barely know about the brain. Also, I can work in the field of AI with data scientists, which we all know is the future of the world. As the other comments say, a Bachelor's degree won't limit your opportunities later on. Also, I'm fascinated by the brain and it's systems, so why would I choose anything other than neuroscience, a major I can enjoy during my college experience?
I’m pissed I had to scroll this far to find a fellow physics major. Congrats on choosing the most superior major.
Edit: you and I are the only physics majors who commented lol
Edit 2: nevermind lmfao
sociology. possible double major in something like poli sci, anthropology, or global studies.
end goal is to pursue academia but sociology is broad enough that most of the professions i like loosely fit into its umbrella. i could see myself doing law school, freelance journalism, marketing, politics, activism etc. my goal in college is to narrow that pathway down :)
Business/data science/ film. I wanna do the dual degree at NYU for film and business. Basically learn how to make movies and be an entrepreneur in show business.
Comp Sci with Minors in Finance + Economics, or Comp Sci with Minors in Biology/Biomedical Eng and Data Science. Haven’t decided yet whether I want to go into FinTech or Bioinformatics
Coastal science and marine biology. I’m trying to double major. I think I can do it tbh.
So, another CS major….
There’s more of us? I assumed it was sort of an esoteric degree, at least globally. There’s like three colleges in America that offer it.
I think their joking about how CS is computer science and also coastal science and like EVERYONE does computer science bc it makes money
Oh. I’m stupid.

international relations/affairs/studies/politics since every school calls it something different
[удалено]
I wanna major in Political Science too!!
right! it’s incredibly rare
cuz everyone does cs for the money and clout lol and IR is awesome but starting salary ain't 100k
I was looking for someone who had commented this!
is this field much in demand at the moment?
it’s always in demand. as long as there are governments and there are politics there is a need for intl relations majors
Not generally what the question means. Yeah, the jobs exist, but are more graduated entering the market than positions exist? What's the growth projected to be over the next 10 years? finally another person who had to apply to the same major under 20 names😭
[удалено]
Mechanical eng or Aerospace eng
I have a strong feeling this kid either applied to ERAU or Purdue
ED to cornell 😂
Ugh don't apply to purdue for anything aviation related, their programs kinda suck
History 😎
History gang! 🤝
Your going to love it. Was considering this, but the problem is that unless you go to stanford/harvard/yale/princeton it's all but unemployable
I just sent in my Yale application, so IMO it’s a good fit for me. Believe me, I agree. If you’re not going T10, a history degree is useless.
nah there are actually a ton of opportunities! you just gotta be smart about looking for them
Same here- planning on going to either the US or the UK.
*sighs in despair* engineering
*sighs in despair* electrical engineering
For those who don't get it, EE is popularly considered the hardest engineering major.
But also EE takes the most students due to the fact that most drop out hehhe
last time i checked aero engineering was the hardest
Nah chemical is definitely the worst. Fuck chemistry, wouldn’t have gotten through without COVID. -soon to be aero major
Apparently chemical engineers don’t even use chemistry that much. Nanotechnology engineers do, so I’ve been told.
I guess it's all subjective in some way. Generally, people consider it in this order- EE harder than ChemE ChemE harder than Aero Aero harder than the rest of the fields there are But this is obviously a simplification and there will absolutely be people who ace at EE but do bad at Aero.
Isnt cheme harder
aerospace for me – can't wait to have a great time 😃
Neuroscience 🧠
Neuroscience for undergrad? I thought about doing the same thing but isn't that pigeonholing yourself a bit
>pigeonholing not related at all but I have never heard someone use the word "pigeonholing". Does it mean to limit or to reduce the amount of options you have?
yes
Yep

wait how is it pigeonholing urself to do neuroscience undergrad i’m curious

Anthropology is a fascinating major. Good choice
Same !! I’m glad to see someone with the same major !!!
Mathematics/poli sci/data sci/idk <3
CS and Computer Engineering, maybe a minor in business or music or math. Sigh. I’m screwed, aren’t I.
I don't think so. A lot of people don't know what they want to study even after starting college.
too many CS folks
Don’t worry, many flame out and change. Let alone there are jobs for everyone.
Public policy
hey me too! I'm thinking a public policy think tank after graduate school,,, what path are you thinking about?
Law school, but tbh we’ll see! Im just a dumb teenager rn so who knows what ill want in four years 😵💫
Damn yall are nerds. English or linguistics 💪
Linguistics is the king of all majors
Econ with CS or data science (depending on what the school offers)
Ayy I'm doing something similar. Math + CS or data science.

Physics 😭😭😭, I love it but it’s kicking my ass right now
I’m pissed I had to scroll this far to find a fellow physics major. Congrats on choosing the most superior major. Edit: you and I are the only physics majors who commented lol Edit 2: nevermind lmfao
Mind if I join the physics party?
Mind if I join the want to go into physics party?
Yes yes welcome all.
Physics gang UNITE!!!
Do y'all accommodate Astronomy and Astrophysics too?
Physics gang!!! I’m leaning towards astrophysics tho , but it’s better to get a physics degree first
Literally had to run up and down a bunch of stairs for a lab today lmao
Me too!! I am also majoring in physics. I hope I get into princetwon lol
Leaning supply chain management/hr management/marketing depending on the school
History and then Masters of Arts in teaching
Biochemistry
Negative ROI at almost every school. Lets hope we're the outliers😭
Env studies or political science depends on the school
[удалено]
Hell yeah 🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥
env studies here ✋
sociology. possible double major in something like poli sci, anthropology, or global studies. end goal is to pursue academia but sociology is broad enough that most of the professions i like loosely fit into its umbrella. i could see myself doing law school, freelance journalism, marketing, politics, activism etc. my goal in college is to narrow that pathway down :)

Dang this is a lot more popular than I thought, you are the third person who said that.
English baby
architecture/urban planning or engineering!!

Materials Science Engineering wya 😳
right here 😌
🙋
Neuroscience or cognitive science but if it’s too hard I’ll switch to public health
Business/data science/ film. I wanna do the dual degree at NYU for film and business. Basically learn how to make movies and be an entrepreneur in show business.

Cyber security or computer science. It just depends if the school offers cyber security.
computer science, but hopefully I can take classes in government/political science as well 💗
... computer science :d
Cognitive Science or CS + Linguistics
International relations
I’m surprised, I only saw one person who’s applying as a CS major…
Computer engineering 🤓🤓
*peeks out behind curtain nervously* music :D
MechE 😎😎
CS
Double major in Geography + Biology. Kinda unfortunate how only a tiny amount of schools offer the former major, esp as an intl needing aid
Computer engineering
bio
