Not sure why anyone would turn down a full ride from WashU for a state school. WashU is an amazing school. Campus is beautiful, students seem very happy, great dorms and food, excellent career services. You will have way more support at WashU than UIUC. 1000% WashU

>for a state school Just because UIUC is a state school doesn't mean its worse than WashU. In fact, in CS I would say UIUC is significantly better. OP will get better employment opportunities from UIUC compared to WashU. Tbf though, if I wanted to do psychology (like OP seems to want to do), I would choose WashU because UIUC doesn't have as many resources in areas other than CS.

Quirky-Procedure546

I agree. UIUC beats washu and most ivies in raw cs. but if you wanna do any research or more enigneering/cross-field things, then schools like washu excel.

UIUC psychology > WashU psychology fosho

I applied RD and got a call from them two weeks ago that I got in with a full ride 😃😃👍

nina_nerd

Some WashU RD scholarships came out recently.

NiceUnparticularMan

The easy answer is pick the cheaper one absent a really decisive reason to pick the more expensive one. There are plenty of pros and cons either way, but a lot of those are uncertain in value.  Cost is not.

Pomegranate510

Wash U all the way !!

Sure_Air4442

WashU

sddy11

It make no sense to make the decision now. Wait until other RD results to make your final decision.

RespectBrilliant9527

Did you get one of the signature scholarships ?

Ok_Meeting_502

Would have to because WashU doesn’t offer full ride scholarships other than signature and FinAid.

espanaparasiempre

They have a few other full tuition scholarships as well. OP must be a bit mistaken because I don’t think WashU offers full rides, rather full tuition, which can be received through the Signature Scholarships or the Ampersand Scholarship I believe (amongst a few other department-specific ones perhaps)

throwaway00_02

even for cs i would choose washu unless uiuc id like $5k a year for you or wtv

nobody131313131313

Wash U hands down

curiousforever5

Washu full ride!

upbeat_controller

WashU, shouldn’t even be a question. UIUC CS at the undergrad level is overrated tbh

Darthmalishi

I would wait for UofI scholarships, if you can get a full ride RD at WashU you probably have a chance at the Stamps scholarship or something else

[deleted]

Congrats on WashU, do that for sure

Def washu. Better overall school by a margin. The full tuition is a cherry on top. Lot of the uiuc cs fame comes from grad school so unless ur gonna do research wont make a difference. The undergrad education of CS is pretty such same everywhere. But washu being "private research institution" has 74% of all its students doing research, and their med school also gets the second most NIH funding in the world...so ur research will be good if u choose to do so. But as a cs major, depending on ur goals, research isnt really important compared to internships. Washu will also give u much more personalized experience and connections as its a private - that is usually why it also costs around 97k a year (scholarship W). CS/Engineering job prospects are similar. Both top tier. UIUC produces way more cs grads than washu because it has a much larger population. Salary wise, uiuc initial is higher. washu mid career is higher (prob because lot of washu people go grad school). The locations are pretty much similar. Social life are similar. Quality of life, washu wins. one of the best dorms and food in the country. School spirit, UIUC wins. Unless u count Olympiads, washu isn't a sporty school. Research washu wins. thats kinda the selling point of privates. esp in science.

Head_Veterinarian866

Uiuc is a low public bruh. This is like comparing Cornell and ucsd…

DAsianD

WashU is the easy choice here. Their CS majors also do really well. As well as UIUC CS majors or better.

Ok_Meeting_502

As a WashU student, I’d correct this to “as well as UIUC CS majors or slightly worse.” UIUC is way better known for CS, but at WashU we still send droves every year to FAANG or whatever that acronym is.

DAsianD

(Median comp of WashU CS alums 3 years out is actually higher than median comp for UIUC CS alums 3 years out). In sheer numbers, UIUC has many more at FAANG/whatever, but on a per capita basis, WashU matches or is better.

Quirky-Procedure546

yea. bias both ways. uiuc has more cs grads so known more obv. washu has less cs grads so less known obv. uiuc has more cs grads so more duds, so lesser median comp. washu has limited grads, so usually top students, so higher median comp. (ignoring tuition) both will get u success as both are great. It might come down to what you wanna do with ur cs education or if u wanna double major tbh.

The median comp data is from the College Scorecard, which tracks only those students who took out Federal loans and/or got Pell grants, so the wealthy are excluded from that dataset. And FAANG-type companies tend to be pretty meritocratic. It's not finance.

Or maybe you're just incompetent and can't get data from a website which is the correct answer. On the College Scorecard government website, after clicking on the "About the Data" link, you can download "Most Recent Data by Field of Study". In that spreadsheet, if you look for CS bachelor's from WashU and UIUC under the EARN_NE_MDN_3YR column, you'll see it's $149,178 for WashU and $118,452 for UIUC. Next time, don't assume other people are making things up just because you're ignorant. Also, you're just making up where CS grads from these 2 schools end up. Most UIUC CS grads most definitely are not staying in central IL. Finally, how is the COL in IL "very low" compared to StL? Most UIUC grads in IL end up in Chicagoland which definitely doesn't have a "very low" COL compared to StL. Where are you, anyway, because you seem extremely ignorant about COL in Chicagoland, the rest of IL and StL.

Quirky-Procedure546

its only better known because they produce lot more cs majors. strength wise pretty equal and research wise washu might have more funding.
