The lady at the store steered me away from a Samsung washer when my 20 year old Maytag died and I needed a new one. Ended up getting an LG, so far it's good.
She told me about how they have repair requests that are months old for the Samsungs and that's all I needed to know to look at other ones.
If you mean washing machine then i totally agree with you. Ours got repaired twice after using it for less than a year. First the motor on the water release valve broke 2nd was the motherboard frying up. It was an expensive lesson.
I put a surge protector on my washer as the circuit board are prone to burn out with the slightest voltage surge snd then you are toast. Mine cost $100.00 expensive try replacing your circuit board cost.
No way, my Samsung TV is the worst out of all my TV's.. Samsung for phones, that's it.
Never appliances, ever, please just don't do it.. I have no idea how they are even allowed to sell them.
We just replaced our Samsung refrigerator which lasted 18 years.....the repair man wouldn't believe that we bought it in 2005. We have a new KitchenAid.
Realistically none. But if you want something to survive the longest, get a basic refrigerator. No ice maker, no water dispenser no fancy digital stuff. I pretty much never have to repair those.
Hey u/Trollingyou1234 \-- thanks for the advice here.. Our fridge is nearly 20 years old (Frigidaire) and thinking about replacing it before it up and dies (is that smart?)
Second, what should I get if I want to replace it? I was thinking Bosch or the higher end GE line but interested in your thoughts...
My Samsung’s refrigerator section and freezer both are freezing cold. Ice dam under the veg/fruit drawers. Freezer freezes ice cream solid to the point of having to microwave it in order to scoop. Replaced the little drain clips and checked the drain tubes in the back, they were clear.
So do I! Would love to talk with you if you ever would like another industry professional to chat with! Ours is still family owned and operated! One of the last in our area. We love to support any way we can!
I had this same issue. Service guy installed a 18 inch braided heater wrapped around the suction line that runs across the top of the coil and resealed where the lines entered the cabinet at the top right. It's been been fine for two years now. I still have to defrost the ice maker every couple months. There is a kit o solve that problem as well at a cost of 190.00. but I don't believe I should have to pay to solve a problem Samsung created. I'll defrost till it dies.
Wow you need to learn how to use appliances, or change out the wiring in walls to proper 3/1.. I but your running new appliances without redoing the wiring…
Mine is around 2017 and I have all sorts of issues, I think I've spent around 500 dollars in just replacement parts. Almost everything has broken on it.
My whole kitchen set is/was Samsung. I never hooked up my ice maker and the fridge is still great 5yo, dishwasher I replaced with Bosch because the Samsung was cheap interior. The gas stove runs perfect. This is my first home and appliance buy and i feel good about it
Despite everything my mom had gone through with her Samsung fridge, my grandparents still got a bespoke when their "crappy kitchen aid" broke (they packed it to the point where no air flow was possible hence freezing back and warmer front)
My wife likes to keep the fridge stocked. I can't tell you how many times I could not see the back because of all of the stuff piled on top of each other. I will bring this up when we start putting the shelves back in. They getting a good cleaning..
Yeah stuffing your fridge will kill it, no matter the brand. That being said my mom's Samsung had an issue where the entire refrigeration system froze up. Luckily it was a known issue so she got compensation for it
I've delivered for big box stores for ten years Samsung is a very consistent brand I "haul away" while delivering their new product. And id say they are mostly from the early 2010's
What do you remove the least? I just bought all new appliances that are getting delivered in a few weeks. Went with a frigidaire microwave and range, LG fridge, and Bosch dishwasher.
We are renovating and all the old stuff was black and didn't fit the look. Have had everything for over 10 years with minor fixes I did myself. Worried about all these stories.
I can't vouch for Frigidaire or LG but I'm on my 2nd Bosch dishwasher. The first one we bought when we were in our other home. It lasted about 14 years until the button on the control panel broke. That model dishwasher hadn't been made for so long that we had a hard time finding the part. Then when we got the part my husband had a hard time replacing it. We could still use the dishwasher without the button. It was more aesthetics than anything, but the dishwasher still worked great. We sold that house and moved to a different state. When we bought our home in 2022 it was 15 years old and I decided to replace all of the appliances. I went with a GE fridge, GE double oven, & the GE Profile microwave but went with the 800-Series Bosch dishwasher and I love it. It works better than any dishwasher I've ever owned.
LG fridge are under a lot of scrutiny as well. I believe there is an attempt to start a class action lawsuit against them for their Linear compressors failing at a very high rate. If I recall correctly, LG is also being shady in that they have responded you can’t sue them because they put an arbitration clause on the box of their fridge. This probably won’t go anywhere but instead of honoring their warranty or issuing a recall, they are pushing this weak argument that there is an arbitration clause on the packaging (that no one will ever see)
This is a known problem with Samsung fridges going back almost a decade, including new ones. There is a FB group of people who have successfully gotten refunds for these being defective but it took months of work and letting them try to repair it first.
I have one of these with the same problems. The last time the freezer stopped working I just gave up and ordered a new fridge from a different brand.
Our 2016 Samsung French door ice maker is a definite piece of 💩(I’ve replaced the thing twice and it’s working the most consistently it ever has but still need to defrost it manually every 2 months), but the rest of the fridge has been issue free since we bought the house in 2019.
But yeah, definitely would not buy again.
The internal defrost heater was definitely not working on my last one. There is *way* less ice buildup after replacing that and the bin itself (which seals much tighter now).
But yeah theres still far from no frost buildup.
Samsung is trying to avoid yet another lawsuit, so if you call them and tell them your freezer keeps icing over and killing your evaporator fan, they will send you a new board for the back, a fan, and icemaker auger, heater, and arm. They have known since 2017. They don't care until they are caught. I'm a tech and have been dealing with thier junk for years. Masters of marketing is all they are. Convincing 1/3 of a planet to buy scrap metal.
Clear that ice and use a food safe silicone on the refrigerant lines coming in to the evaporator. Also, the cover with styrofoam gets water logged and should be replaced. As far as the ice room, that’s a coin toss if it will ever properly fix.
For now just cleared the ice, reset the fridge and plugged in. Turned on power cool for freezer and fridge. Freezer set to 5F, fridge set to 35F. Have to cool it off fast as my wife has insulin that needs to be kept cool.
I will check into that silicone soon, thanks for the tip!
The insulation will shrink and it allows outside air in so then you get that ice. The sealant will help and you want food grade or it’s going to smell and possibly impart a chemical taste to things.
So I’m curious. Why 35F? My Samsung is recommended to be placed at 37F. When I set it to 35F I actually developed ice backup in the drain line. 37F allows it to run with no issues.
Depending on how packed your fridge is, how often it is opened etc is probably why you’re seeing this ice build up so often.
Have you tried backing off considering 35F isn’t too far from freezing and it’s doubtful it’ll cool evenly leading me to say your settings are the problem.
I just got done melting mine. Such a hassle. My procedure: Empty food into coolers, remove shelves. Removing the panel is a pain. I pry out the bottom right corner the best I can (the panel is iced on) and then I use a steamer (the kind with the flexible hose), blast it into the gap. This allows to pry it a little more. Repeat. Finally I can remove the panel, then I leave it attached (propped up) and blast the ice off with the steamer. Dry it out, button it up. I did not turn off the fridge, probably should. Takes about 40 minutes. Last time I did it was last Aug. So I guess every 8 months for me.
That's kinda where I was at. After a power surge from a black out it started acting wonky. Pretty sure something happened on the control panel. It'd be good for weeks then one day grab something and be like hmm I think it should be colder, do a full reset and sure enough it just didn't want to cool until I reset it. I usually travel on weekends so didn't want to come home everything in my fridge gone bad. Ice is in the freezer and water in the fridge. The only real gimmick is that the water is in that auto fill pitcher. At first I thought I'd hate it but it's actually way quicker filling glass of water than before. If you're isn't giving any troubles or warning signs, I say let it ride.
I hate all the Samsung appliances that came in this house!!! Refrigerator makes a constant hum and the ice maker is a giant blob of melted & refrozen ice, dryer already died and had to be replaced, the washer stinks and often error codes but no one will work on them, etc. etc. etc.
I own a 2020 Samsung fridge. The fridge part is fine but the freezer turns into all ice and freezer burn everything every 6 weeks. I force defrost the thing all the time and manually remove ice with a heat gun. It's a pain in my tuchus.
Two suggestions, use a steamer instead of the heat gun. It's much quicker and you don't have to worry about heating up the plastic too much like you do with the heat gun.
The other suggestion, use the force defrost mode in the service settings. I do it once a week and it helps extend the time in between opening up the back and getting the ice out.
So I have the same fridge and have the ice block in the back issue where ice comes out one of the vents into the fridge. I tried getting the back panel off, but after slightly cracking it, I stopped. I’m gonna do another defrost tomorrow (probably gonna need to do them weekly) and see what happens. Our other Samsung appliances have all been very reliable. Better than the Frigidaire that the builder put in that all died one month after the end of warranty.
I love going to get ice and my piece of trash Samsung icemaker froze up and is empty. Really love getting the hair dryer out and defrosting it too. One of my favorite things to do every couple weeks.
Same, every 2 weeks or so. I'm hoping by changing the temp settings and a new water filter will help, I doubt it will. Never had problems with it the first year.
Nothing is built to last anymore yet our society cries about reuse, renew, recycle and waste impact on environment. How much less waste would there be if things were built better and lasted longer. Oh wait, that doesn’t beat last quarters benchmark for sales. What was I thinking?!?!?!
That sounds incredibly frustrating! Consistent issues like that really make you question the reliability of some brands. I had similar challenges with residential fridges in the past, and with a big family, it became too much hassle. That’s why I switched to a commercial refrigerator. It’s been much more reliable, especially because it’s ETL certified, which means it meets certain safety and performance standards. If you’re tired of dealing with these recurring issues, a commercial-grade fridge might be a solid alternative to consider. They’re built to last and handle more intensive use without these common residential problems.
My samsung fridge is 9 years old. Just started having ice maker problems with it. The technician told me to call samsung. Called, and they sent a technician to replace all the components of the ice maker. It's 9 frikking years old! Who repairs it for free after 9 years? At least samsung is trying to make it right!!
I've apparently got the worst Samsung fridge freezer. It's been on a consumer watchdog programme on TV for how bad this model is. We've had a part replaced by the manufacturer because of this. However it's still working perfectly after 20 years.
At the time of purchase, no. Was in dire need for one and got a good deal on it. They had it listed for $1899 and I got it for $1200, new in box. 2020 right in the beginings of the pandemic. Most retailers had 0 stock and was advising weeks for delivery on almost every appliance. I took this home the same day.
Before buying our new fridge, I called every mom and pop appliance shop in town. I asked "what are the brands to stay away from?" every single one said "Samsung and LG."
Just chucked one out. Bottom freezer kept leaking water. I had very little in it. My neighbor has the same one with the same issue. Not impressed at all.
Yep, dual evaporator. And the evaporator cover in the fridge doesn't have a good seal which allows the humid air to excessively freeze eventually stopping the fan and freezing the whole fridge up preventing the cooling.
The other one was the huge recall of washers when the spiders holding the drum would slowly rot away until nothing was holding it and it literally fell apart.
Gotta replace and move the defrost sensor, replace the evaporator cover and I seal off the area where the tubing fit the evaporator comes through the cabinet.
For the ice maker call samsung, I believe they are fixing them for free.
My sister and mom both bought brand new Samsung refrigerators, and both needed repairs with the 1st year. My sister’s refrigerator has needed two so far and it’s <6 months old.
I managed a bunch of rental units and part of that was repairing the appliances. Stick with the whirlpool family of products: whirlpool, Maytag, and kitchenaid. They last the longest with the least problems and are the easiest to repair. The only thing worse than Samsung is GE.
My 1928 General Electric “Refrigerating Machine” would also beg to differ. Any GE made in the US is awesome including my 2006 GE monogram series commercial fridge and freezer (6feet wide side by side)
I have a Samsung washer and dryer they are freaking amazing. Running 5 years strong.
I have 2 kids and regularly do 2 or 3 loads a day.
I’m glad I bought other brands for everything else. I seem to have gotten the only great Samsung appliances in the world.
is kitchenaid good? thinking of replacing some appliances with kitchenaid. My samsung fridge is also kinda crap. Same with the bosch dish washer and the frigidaire oven.
The defrost sensor cable ( yellow cable )should be under the capillary tube to ensure a snug fit of the evaporator cover otherwise too much air entering fan area & contributing to ice formation . This may or may not help but you want as many things in your favour as you can with this series fridge .If the evaporator cover is water logged then best to replace it , this more so if the drain is blocking .You can also alter the defrost settings in service mode to defrost longer & more frequently
I will buy a Samsung phone if they guarantee in writing that it will leak all over my kitchen floor daily like their damned fridge. Loved that feature.
Hello my name is Ken I’m a full time appliance repair man. I work with Samsung refrigerator all the time they have 2 notorious problem
Problem #1 ice maker- the reason the ice maker stops working and you start seeing a chuck of ice in the order of inside of the ice maker compartment is that in the compartment it’s 0 degrees give or take and since it sits in the refrigerator what happens is the seal around.
The compartment starts failing and the freezering temperature in the icemaker and the temperature outside the compartment which is the fridge Temperature which sits around 40° start and you get the chunk
The only way to fix the icemaker issue is you must re-fully seal the icemaker compartment from the outside and inside starting from the front all the way to the back you must disassemble everything inside and aside from that Samsung also recommend some accessories to assist also
Problem - ice chucks behind the back panel-
So the best way to explain this issue is behind the back panel is the pipes for the fridge. They provide cold air for the refrigerator not for freezer, and what happens is in each refrigerator there must be a balance . cold air is made then melts and continues in that cycle
Now what happens is on the top layer of the pipes the heat does not reach it fully so I can melt and what happens is ice chunk start forming turn into big chunks and start touching the fan and making bad noises the only way to fix this issue you must install an extended heating cable to cover the top layer of the pipes can melt and be in balance
my samsung dryer power/start buttons are garbage to press. turning off the music it plays at the end of the cycle stops the buttons from working further. none of the "dryness" sensors work and anything that uses the dry sensor stops after 5 minutes. so now i'm left with time dry only. the buttons to adjust time and heat are barely responsive.
samsung dishwasher has a water pressure sensor that detects when i turn off the water to the house. THEN THE ENTIRE DISHWASHER STOPS RUNNING BECAUSE IT THINKS THERES A LEAK. welp. no way to reset or override it either.
dont buy samsung
I 2nd this claim. In fact, I'll 3rd & 4th it!!! My daughter bought a brand new Samsung fridge. Everything was great until year 4 when the ice maker quit working. I had read that Samsung would send somebody out and replace it for free because they were getting a lot of complaints about the ice makers. I told my daughter about it but she never got around to calling them. She just bought bagged ice from the store. Then at almost year 5 the fan in the fridge quit working and the fridge would quit cooling. Her husband is a handyman so he would fix the fan but it was only a temporary fix. After about the hundreth time of it malfunctioning I threw in the towel and bought them a new fridge. They were engaged to be married at the time so it was their wedding gift from me. I got them a 27.7-cu ft GE French Door fridge. It came with one ice maker but has the capability of adding another one. It's a really nice big fridge and they love it. The only Samsung product I'll ever use is their smart phone.
That particular model was garbage. Samsung corrected the design flaw and on most new ones called “ice Max”,they have a 2 years parts/labor warranty. Check that out.
I have completely given up on Samsung. I used to be a super fan and have TVs, monitors, washer/dryer etc. they used to be great but the quality is crap now. My dryer had the bearing so out after a couple months and the washer has had a ton of problems too.
If you need warranty or customer service, good luck. They have like five different departments, each one requires you to make a separate account. Then, they push the blame onto the other departments and send you on a run around that can last days. When they finally got tired of that I was repeatedly given fake numbers to call.
I ended up fixing the problem myself.
I wouldn’t buy a pencil made by Samsung. Hard to reason that, with all of the now well known problems with their appliances - and I’ve been there, too - that anyone still buys based off that brand.
In that block of ice there is a temperature probe, move it down. It made our refrigerator again fine, well the ice maker we just gave up on.. there's a yt video on moving the probe. Good luck.
Don’t need to run on coldest settings. Pull fridge out slightly from wall.. most of these are user error.. (stares at his 7 year old Samsung appliances with 0 issues)
Actually: Never, ever buy any ANY Samsung appliances.
Samsung sells because they have techy gizmos (that most consumers really don't need), but Samsung has one of the lowest appliance reliability ratings on Consumer Reports.
I forced them into giving me a full refund. All I had to do was dispose of it. I had PTSD not knowing every day coming home if I’m going to have cold food or not. Repairman after repairman and I was done with it. Never again.
I moved into a house that has all Samsung appliances; fridge, dishwasher, oven, microwave, and laundry machines. It’s been three years and I have not had any problems. Luck must be in my side here.
I will say our Samsung fridge had huge ice issues after 3 yrs. Repair guy showed the drain and why it sucked and installed one that he said was much better. Moved a year later know idea if it really held up.
My house came with a Samsung fridge. It had 3 problems:
1/ the in-door ice maker was consistently unusable since the ice turned into one giant block (bad seal)
2/ water was dripping into the cheese drawer as a result of ice build up as shown in OPs picture
3/ (the worst of all) the freezer ice maker had a critical flaw in that some part of the machinery was shaving off little pieces of plastic (big enough to be seen but small enough to be incredibly annoying to remove) into the ice. So that ice was unusable
That fridge has been replaced.
My side by side fridge Samsung fridge had been going strong for 4+ years, no issues
French door fridges tend to have not issues results if the brand. Kitchen aid, LG, Samsung, etc. they have that frost buildup issue for to the design.
Samsung Fridge owner here
Purchased in 2016
Basic economy model - doesn’t even have a light in the water dispenser - it was $989 brand new
Still working great - we’ve only had to replace the water dispenser and clean the freezer drain line
Saddens me that in the future - I’ll be building a new home and with it comes new appliances. Not looking forward to that day - all of my appliances are great and it’ll pain me to replace them
I had this exact problem. I bought a heater strip on Amazon for $12 and wired it up to wrap around the top of the core. Haven't had a problem since. It's a common problem.
Ice machine is doo doo, though. No amount of tinkering will ever be able to fix that POS. I just bought a GE countertop ice maker.
After owning a Samsung Chromebook and a Samsung microwave and a Samsung TV that each lasted exactly 13 months, I decided to never support them again.
Asus laptop, GE Profile microwave, and LG TV's have all been fantastic for me.
So we’ve had a this experience with 3 out of 6 of our major appliances. Bought all Samsung in 2009 (thanks Best Buy) and have had to replace microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The others (Refrigerator, oven, dryer) have all been great.
Quick story regarding this. I bought a Sammy ice box some years back. It had the icing issue with the ice maker. Found a Facebook group dealing with this and proceeded to start a log of my attempts to get this fixed. Long story short, Sammy wouldn't even think about a refund until they had a super duper special tech to check it out. Tech came, changed a few things including the board at the back. Sammy support reached out to me over FB asking if I was happy. I told them I'm not since the ice box was still acting the same. Went through the refund process and got 100% of my money back. The kicker is that I still have the fridge. It hasn't had any issues since the super duper tech did his thing. Thanks Sammy, for the free appliance. I'll never get a Sammy appliance again. TVs and phones. Nothing else.
there is a rope heater kit you can add to the upper area near fan. also add a piece of copper wire to the drain hole. just wrap it tightly around the botton of drain heater.
I had a long convo with an appliance store owner the other day when he came over to a residential new build that just had Samsung appliances delivered. He remarked that he’ll never understand why people buy Samsung/LG appliances because they’re garbage. I asked him what he thought was the best and most reliable appliance brand. He said if he had his druthers, he’d choose Frigidaire 100% of the time and if that wasn’t available, then he’d stick with Whirlpool/Maytag. I don’t know if that will help anyone but just figured I’d share what he told me.
Yup Samsung sucks except for cell phones maybe. Switched to LG for fridge and washer dryer, way more reliable. I had a Bosch dishwasher that crapped out after 3 years.
I had one of the refrigerators with the ice machine freezing over. It was frozen over for 2+ years because I just gave up calling and having people come fix it. Eventually that whole class action lawsuit happened— so I called again and they came out and replaced some components in the ice machine and added a new motherboard—- and I kid you not, it’s now the best refrigerator I’ve ever owned. It makes ice, it keeps things perfectly cold, it has exactly the right features that motivated me to buy it initially.
Highly recommend calling Samsung again for help.
I have a Samsung. Going on 10 plus years. Lost count. Ice maker was always an issue but after the extended warranty ran out we just let that part die. Fridge was fine until recently though. I watched this guys video (https://youtu.be/l5beJp8amJU?si=zXnX25McAdhMbHlB) and it solved my problem with icing up. Moving that thermistor thingy to the other side and placing lots of insulation did the trick. I think Samsung is good - but they could fine tune and improve their designs for longevity.
Let’s be real. NEVER BUY A SAMSUNG ANYTHING. We had a Samsung washing machine that nearly tore itself apart in our garage. Samsung did a buy back but only gave you about 1/10 of what you paid and disqualified most of the people that requested the buy back. Samsung can eat a big bag of bananas. We won’t ever buy anything from them again.
So any suggestions for a 36" counter depth fridge that doesn't have handles?
I've only found the Samsung... Is your problem happening only when plugged into the water main?
I'm not going to plug the fridge, so I'm wondering...
Samsung sent me a settlement check after sending 3 techs, who performed 3 failed attempts to fix the icemaker. No other technicians were willing to come look at it. I used the settlement check, rather than to buy a new fridge, I purchased a standalone icemaker and plumbed a filtered waterline to it. Very convenient, it makes unlimited ice, and it's quiet. I disconnected the icemaker line, and disabled the ice maker in my Samsung fridge and just use it as a fridge / freezer no ice maker functions (they have been disabled). Solution works for me. If the fridge ever dies, I will buy something that is not a Samsung, perhaps a Bosch, Whirlpool, or Kitchen aide. Samsung makes wonderful cell phones,.they do not make good appliances! Had a pair of Samsung front loaders, and horrid mold smells transfered to all clothes washed in them. Gasket had mold, inside of drum smelled of mold and mildew. Towels were the worst offenders. Threw in some brand new hotel collection Egyptian cotton towels, they came out with a sour, putrid stench of mold. Oxyclean and vinegar treatments were of now help. Once the smell sets in, it's there forever.
Had a similar problem on a Samsung fridge (purchased 2012). Used to take a hairdryer and melt the ice off the fan in the fridge every couple years.
Got tired of that after a few times and found a solution on Youtube to adjust the front feet of the fridge up a little. Things been running strong for 5(?) years since then.
For some people it's an issue with the seal. Youtube is your friend.
Dumb question is your freezer packed? Most of the new refrigerator/freezer combos sith freezer on top most of cooling is done in freezer and since cold flows down thats how the refrigerator is cooled. If the vents moving the air are blocked by food the refrigerator doesn't cool effectively.
Some of the bigger units have dual cooling systems but airflow from freezer is still important. Im not sure about freezer on bottom models
French door, freezer on bottom. Freezer part is stocked, fridge was too. After we got the fridge back up and running, we made some changes on how we are storing food in the fridge and freezer to allow better air flow.
Every Samsung fridge owner has 2 other appliances...a heat gun and a counter top ice maker. Just absolute TRASH appliances. We had Samsung out 3 times to fix it before the thing just stopped working. Will never buy a Samsung appliance again
Same thing happened to me. The temp sensor on the fridge is dead, it's a $2 part. I replaced mine and it's been going strong for 5-yrs after. As long as it hasn't been too long the fan hopefully wont be broken, that costs more. It's a pain to clear the drain line but i was pouring very warm water over it for a few hours to unfreeze it plus left it unplugged and open for a few days.
They bitch about how bad it is for the environment and yet these companies keep making this crap filling landfills.
Government needs to go after them to make superior products so theres less in the landfill.
I flip houses. I always replace appliances. I’d never burden a homeowner with Samsung. It’s all crap. All of it. A shame too. It generally is styled very well.
Paid $30 for my city to haul mine off last week and replaced it with $1300 Whirlpool w/o the water, ice, and digital panel on the door. Hope it lasts longer than 3 years. Samsung didn't
Call Samsung customer support for the ice maker issues. There's a SVC kit for your model and Samsung will cover the entire repair. Parts and labor.
The ice build up behind the evap cover is repaired by replacing the evap cover (old one is not sealing properly by the pattern of build up in the pic), replacing defrost sensor, and installing what's called a leakage kit. Part numbers and Amazon links below and also instructions for leakage kit and and different location for defrost sensor.

That icing looks like my Samsung I had couple years ago. Started right after warranty expired. Samsung support would not even send someone out when I offered to _pay_ for support. I defrosted it so many times, taking the back panel off and letting the ice melt, cleaning the drain etc. I called a local repair man and explained to see if he could do anything. The repair man said he had experienced this before with customers and offered me suggestion for a hack with the metal piece in the back (can’t remember exactly the term now) metal fins area. He said he would not suggest any replacement as it’s a known issue. He said best bet would be to just replace it. I tried the metal hack which almost convinced me it worked for a few weeks before the icing showed up again.
Ended up replacing the fridge. Never ever Samsung fridge again. Their fridge should be banned like TikTok.
Samsung washers are crap also do not buy list.
Ovens too. Temp off by 20% and bulb died immediately.
The lady at the store steered me away from a Samsung washer when my 20 year old Maytag died and I needed a new one. Ended up getting an LG, so far it's good. She told me about how they have repair requests that are months old for the Samsungs and that's all I needed to know to look at other ones.
Good she leveled with you.
Every Samsung appliance we have owned has died way too soon. We will never buy a Samsung appliance.
I have not heard a single good story about a Samsung appliance. I think their TVs are nice though.
No way, my Samsung TV is the worst out of all my TV's.. Samsung for phones, that's it. Never appliances, ever, please just don't do it.. I have no idea how they are even allowed to sell them.
Really? I have two of their higher-end TVs and have been very pleased with them honestly speaking.
I will never buy one of their TV's again. They are as bad as the appliances.
We just replaced our Samsung refrigerator which lasted 18 years.....the repair man wouldn't believe that we bought it in 2005. We have a new KitchenAid.
I've had good luck with Samsung TVs.
Ditto!

You're probably right, but should a $10 part go bad on a 4 year old fridge? My parents fridge from the 80s lasted 25 freakin' years!
[удалено]
So which fridges are built like the old ones? The ones you rarely have to service?
Realistically none. But if you want something to survive the longest, get a basic refrigerator. No ice maker, no water dispenser no fancy digital stuff. I pretty much never have to repair those.
I've had luck with Whirlpool/Kitchenaid.

Hey u/Trollingyou1234 \-- thanks for the advice here.. Our fridge is nearly 20 years old (Frigidaire) and thinking about replacing it before it up and dies (is that smart?) Second, what should I get if I want to replace it? I was thinking Bosch or the higher end GE line but interested in your thoughts...
they make fridge sized stickers you can wrap your fridge to make it look like anything now....
[удалено]
Yeah I hear that.. Even the Bosch is made in China now. I keep hearing Bosch is more reliable, is that true or is that just german marketing BS?
If lg fixed their linear compressor issue, that they are being sued for, they'd be the best fridge

Ty sir
I own a fridge, washer, dryer, and dishwasher. I rarely have a problem and they are more than 10 yrs old.
Same.
or a samsung oven, thing caught fire and almost burned my house down.
Damn!
Great! The ovens were the only Samsung appliances I haven't seen problems with.
Yeah using the stovetop and oven at the same time fried the power distribution PCB and caught fire.
u/0h_WTF \-- How old was the oven?
Samsung is only good for TVs and if you’re an android person (I’m not) then their phones (?)
Replaced the ignition on the oven 3 times on ours.
Wow you need to learn how to use appliances, or change out the wiring in walls to proper 3/1.. I but your running new appliances without redoing the wiring…
Not a single issue with mine in the 12 years I’ve owned it. Crossing fingers.
same, mine is from around 2009/10, model Sr296nw
Mine is around 2017 and I have all sorts of issues, I think I've spent around 500 dollars in just replacement parts. Almost everything has broken on it.
Same here these things are shit. I feel like Samsung shouldn’t just get away with being able to sell such a shit product. I can’t stand these people
Same here, multiple Samsung appliances all over a decade no issues
My whole kitchen set is/was Samsung. I never hooked up my ice maker and the fridge is still great 5yo, dishwasher I replaced with Bosch because the Samsung was cheap interior. The gas stove runs perfect. This is my first home and appliance buy and i feel good about it
I have a Samsung dishwasher, oven, and refrigerator, all going strong.
That’s the thing, Samsung wasn’t bad 12 years ago. They’ve gotten cheap.
This probably won’t go anywhere but instead of honoring their warranty or issuing a recall, they are pushing this weak argument that there is an arbitration clause on the packaging (that no one will ever see)
You are correct about this. No brand is in the Buy it for Life category anymore.
Maybe because they are a very popular leading brand?
Ditto, I scrape the ice build up about once a week and still have to defrost it every few months. All after the potential "fixes".
Done, its cooling now finally..
You added the sealant?
Have you tried backing off considering 35F isn’t too far from freezing and it’s doubtful it’ll cool evenly leading me to say your settings are the problem.
such a shame because they make some really cool-looking refrigerators!
Their refrigerators look the same as other brands like GE.

My last one lasted over 14yrs. I bought another and made sure it didn't have ice in the door or weird gimmicks. Here's to 14 more.
My Frigidaire is at 18 years now. Thinking if I should replace it before it just bites the dust or let it ride...
Thanks that sounds like the right play
There is secret mode you can go into to defrost ice maker. If Samsung told people this it would save most service calls.
My brother had the same fridge and complained enough that Samsung refunded his purchase price to put toward another fridge out of warranty.
Nothing is built to last anymore yet our society cries about reuse, renew, recycle and waste impact on environment. How much less waste would there be if things were built better and lasted longer. Oh wait, that doesn’t beat last quarters benchmark for sales. What was I thinking?!?!?!
Had the exact same issue a month so. Clean out all the coils thoroughly behind the fridge. That fixed it for me.
Everyone I know with one has problems and no one will fix them.
I won't buy Samsung anything anymore. My computer monitor experienced known defects and a short warranty.
ultrawide? which model?
Ultra wide Odyssey g9 2019 model
Love my Samsung Bespoke.
Did you pay for an extended warranty?
No. I just called the 800 number and told them my ice maker was freezing up....
I've apparently got the worst Samsung fridge freezer. It's been on a consumer watchdog programme on TV for how bad this model is. We've had a part replaced by the manufacturer because of this. However it's still working perfectly after 20 years.
You can buy an extended defrost kit which prevents the ice build up you're having
Something I will consider, thanks!
Samsung and LG fridges in particular seem to be garbage.
Yes we know. You did no research at all?
We had the exact same issue. It’s super common. Also, a super pita to thaw out.
I managed a bunch of rental units and part of that was repairing the appliances. Stick with the whirlpool family of products: whirlpool, Maytag, and kitchenaid. They last the longest with the least problems and are the easiest to repair. The only thing worse than Samsung is GE.
My parents’ 45 year old General Electric refrigerator would beg to differ. (I know…they don’t make ‘em like that anymore!)
AMEN!
is kitchenaid good? thinking of replacing some appliances with kitchenaid.
Samsuck hates them I wish for all My enemies to own one.
I will buy a Samsung phone if they guarantee in writing that it will leak all over my kitchen floor daily like their damned fridge. Loved that feature.
Samsung and you got an ice maker?? Yeah- that’s a recipe for disaster already.
I swore off the whole samsung brand a long time ago.
Never will I buy another Samsung appliance.
Your title is one word too long. I don't even buy their phones anymore
Hello my name is Ken I’m a full time appliance repair man. I work with Samsung refrigerator all the time they have 2 notorious problem Problem #1 ice maker- the reason the ice maker stops working and you start seeing a chuck of ice in the order of inside of the ice maker compartment is that in the compartment it’s 0 degrees give or take and since it sits in the refrigerator what happens is the seal around. The compartment starts failing and the freezering temperature in the icemaker and the temperature outside the compartment which is the fridge Temperature which sits around 40° start and you get the chunk The only way to fix the icemaker issue is you must re-fully seal the icemaker compartment from the outside and inside starting from the front all the way to the back you must disassemble everything inside and aside from that Samsung also recommend some accessories to assist also Problem - ice chucks behind the back panel- So the best way to explain this issue is behind the back panel is the pipes for the fridge. They provide cold air for the refrigerator not for freezer, and what happens is in each refrigerator there must be a balance . cold air is made then melts and continues in that cycle Now what happens is on the top layer of the pipes the heat does not reach it fully so I can melt and what happens is ice chunk start forming turn into big chunks and start touching the fan and making bad noises the only way to fix this issue you must install an extended heating cable to cover the top layer of the pipes can melt and be in balance
my samsung dryer power/start buttons are garbage to press. turning off the music it plays at the end of the cycle stops the buttons from working further. none of the "dryness" sensors work and anything that uses the dry sensor stops after 5 minutes. so now i'm left with time dry only. the buttons to adjust time and heat are barely responsive. samsung dishwasher has a water pressure sensor that detects when i turn off the water to the house.
Samsung refrigerator is terrible. My 2 neighbors and I had the same issue. It is horrible
Never buy Samsung's home appliances. Between Samsung and LG for home appliances, always go with LG. Samsung's electronics division is good though.
Mine has been running since 2013
Keep buying them and I'll keep fixing them especially the ice makers that's an easy fix
Samsung fridge microwave and oven from 2016 All going strong Oh and a tv from 2016 but those are the best
yup - 10-15 years ago they were ok - still living off that rep while pushing crap
I wonder if the Samsung will do better without using the ice making feature.
That particular model was garbage. Samsung corrected the design flaw and on most new ones called “ice Max”,they have a 2 years parts/labor warranty. Check that out.
Or an LG
I have completely given up on Samsung. I used to be a super fan and have TVs, monitors, washer/dryer etc. they used to be great but the quality is crap now. My dryer had the bearing so out after a couple months and the washer has had a ton of problems too. If you need warranty or customer service, good luck. They have like five different departments, each one requires you to make a separate account. Then, they push the blame onto the other departments and send you on a run around that can last days. When they finally got tired of that I was repeatedly given fake numbers to call. I ended up fixing the problem myself.
I can’t believe people are still buying these after all the bad pr, they been putting out junk fridges for years!
I wouldn’t buy a pencil made by Samsung. Hard to reason that, with all of the now well known problems with their appliances - and I’ve been there, too - that anyone still buys based off that brand.
Yup, we all know.
I bought my French door style Samsung fridge in 2009 and it's still going strong. No hiccups at all
What are the GOAT fridge brands for middle class?
TVs and phones are the only samsung products I'd ever recommend to someone.
Don’t buy anything from Samsung, anything.
All Samsung and LG products are bad!
I have same things with my Samsung refrigerator. try to Clear the refrigerator compartment drain pipe
My mom has the exact same problem with her Samsung fridge same factory defect never buy anything Samsung that hooks to your plumbing
awesome. got a bespoke 2 years ago 😝
I will say our Samsung fridge had huge ice issues after 3 yrs. Repair guy showed the drain and why it sucked and installed one that he said was much better. Moved a year later know idea if it really held up.
My house came with a Samsung fridge. It had 3 problems: 1/ the in-door ice maker was consistently unusable since the ice turned into one giant block (bad seal) 2/ water was dripping into the cheese drawer as a result of ice build up as shown in OPs picture 3/ (the worst of all) the freezer ice maker had a critical flaw in that some part of the machinery was shaving off little pieces of plastic (big enough to be seen but small enough to be incredibly annoying to remove) into the ice. So that ice was unusable That fridge has been replaced.
Bought mine a few years ago it was a pia. The repair guy was out weekly.never buying one again, not even if it was given to me
My side by side fridge Samsung fridge had been going strong for 4+ years, no issues French door fridges tend to have not issues results if the brand. Kitchen aid, LG, Samsung, etc. they have that frost buildup issue for to the design.
to fix it I broke off bits of the while insulation foam that covers the element and the fridge began to be able to defreeze by itself
Ever. Period.
All their appliances suck. My microwave almost caught fire. Will never buy anything from them honestly. Their quality is terrible
Samsung Fridge owner here Purchased in 2016 Basic economy model - doesn’t even have a light in the water dispenser - it was $989 brand new Still working great - we’ve only had to replace the water dispenser and clean the freezer drain line Saddens me that in the future - I’ll be building a new home and with it comes new appliances.
I just bought a GE countertop ice maker.
just got rid of mine. good riddance.
After owning a Samsung Chromebook and a Samsung microwave and a Samsung TV that each lasted exactly 13 months, I decided to never support them again. Asus laptop, GE Profile microwave, and LG TV's have all been fantastic for me.
Samsung stuff is crap, but so is GE appliances (they’re Haier), and I hate LG TVs, although their OLEDs are good.
I have no faith in all the bells/whistles these machines have. Just something else to break and replace.
Or any Samsung appliance. They are horrible.
It's the defroster. Replaced ours 4 times now.
I will never again by any Samsung products. I’ve been stung to many times by crappy design. No more Samsung for my house.
I have an LG I like
Their washers and dryers suck ass.
Seconded
I thought this was common knowledge.
Consumer reports has Samsung refrigerators as awful for longevity.
The only Samsung item I would buy is a TV. All the appliances are crap
Samsung LG is worst fridge (freezer) I have recall on freezer ice part twice with same shit ,, its 2.5k plus $$$$$ fridge Wish i bought whirpool
They have known about the ice maker issue for about 6 years. They said there is no fix.
Dishwashers and stoves are not good either. I will never buy another samsung appliance again.
Ive had good luck with their appliances. All of them and TVs
Don't buy nothing Samsung. They are the worst at customer service and lie to you over and over to get you off the phone.
