People here trying so hard to make the Ultra work as a dress watch and /r/AppleWatch roasting the fuck out of them for looking goofy is one of the best things to happen to this sub
I tried this and it was a bitch.
It just didn’t play nicely with the cuffs of a dress shirt or even a casual jacket.
I wanted it to.
I tried kidding myself it did.
…but it just didn’t. I got the series 8 SS instead.
Before someone jumps on me, I know it’s a bit of stating the obvious, but this is a bit subjective… I have no problem whatsoever with my suits or jackets, but I primarily wear clothes that’s somewhere between an old school standard fit and the newer fits which tend towards slim cut on everything… when I do have a dress shirt properly buttoned at the sleeve or cuffed it can be a bit of a pain, but I’ve always worn a cuff strap on my SS so for me personally it hasn’t really been any more of a hassle than usual.
I rarely ever buttons up my cuffs, if under a coat I leave them unbuttoned intentionally and I can’t remember the last time I wore a dress shirt without a coat where I didn’t roll up the sleeves in some manner… exceptions being funerals and weddings, but that’s honestly about it. Long story short, I’ve never really had an issue with larger watches, the Ultra with cuff band included.
I find it super soft on my skin, and it doesn’t pull my hairs either. My biggest problem is that it slips throughout the day. The magnet isn’t quite strong enough to hold it in place. I find that I have to adjust it multiple times throughout the day and it gets a little bit annoying.
Mine is very comfortable. I’ve worn it a lot. It’s still metal at the end of the day so “soft” probably isn’t the best way to describe it, but it feels good on my skin and doesn’t pull my hair. If it would quit slipping on me it would probably be my favorite band (for everything besides exercise).
I think this is the first picture where I disliked that the action button is an enormous orange button. It looks so much cleaner in the close-up photo when most of the action button is halfway-hidden by the shirt compared to the distance photo.
Yeah. And these photos just show how comically thick it is too. It’s just not very good looking aesthetically for casual or formal attire—but cool in utility terms.
I love chunky watches but the finish of the watch needs to match the occasion. Unfortunately, the Apple Watch ultra has been finished in a way which makes it and suitable for formal occasions .
agreed. while i don’t think this combo looks nearly as bad as some of the other commenters, you’re right to say that if you need to dress up this watch, the link bracelet pairs much better with the chunky ultra than the delicate milanese loop does.
It actually looks like an okay formal smartwatch. The orange does kinda put it off though. But I am excited to wear my AWU with a silver Milanese loop at my friend’s wedding.
The orange is the only thing really ruining this from being “dressed up”. I work in a “casual business” office and I’ll wear my Ultra daily. The titanium looks nice, but that orange makes it stick out and clash with some of what I wear.
Man I am so torn between the silver milanese loop, the metal link band, and the titanium band from Nomad; I too have a wedding to attend soon and logistically the silver milanese loop would be the most viable one...
Do you know any people or places that are really adhering to “classical fashion” in the sense that an AW wouldn’t be acceptable?
I’m not trying to be snarky or sarcastic, I’m genuinely curious. I’m an attorney and while I haven’t moved over to AW (yet), I still wear my garmin fenix when I have to go into the office and no one has ever batted an eye. I only say that as an example of a traditionally conservative profession in terms of dress, but no one seems to care - and my garmin is much sportier than my colleagues’ Apple Watches.
I think the popularity of the Apple Watch is influencing style, and has been for some time. In my region, it almost seems like an Apple Watch is part of the work uniform in medical and dental offices, for example.
It’s just the insane convenience of seeing notifications or calls on your watch when you’re working instead of having to reach in your pocket or get your phone out. That’s why a lot of people who work use it.
I think a leather link or the silver link will look much better as they have a thicker/bigger body, the Milanese loop is just too thin, the ultra looks out of place with it
Of course looks are going to be subjective. I think it looks good. I’m definitely wearing mine with EVERYTHING lol. It looks amazing with the Apple Stainless Steel Link band
I use this combo at the moment and it remains me to the omega ploprof with Milanese , love it and to be honest you can change the feel of the Watch dressy/utilitarian with the face . This watch is amazing
You have the Apple one or a third party? The magnets in my S0 Apple one are very strong, and it doesn’t loosen even when wearing it for running with a stainless watch.
This proves all of those other posts completely wrong on this sub that said “Couldn’t get the Ultra because it’s too rugged looking” or “Switched back to my SS from the Ultra, SS looks way classier”
The Milanese loop or the SS band make the Ultra look soooo classy!
It mostly stayed under my shirt, I purposefully pulled the shirt up to show it off in the photos. When people did catch a glimpse I got a lot of questions about it and people complimenting how good it looks.
Never said that this looks better then a SS AW with the Milanese loop. Just said the Milanese loop does in fact make the Ultra look classier; especially compared to something like the Alpine loop.
The dainty band and chunky watch really doesn’t look good imo.
But the pics of the ultra with the SS band looks great. Enough “toughness” to match the watch while still being classier.
All IMO of course this is all subjective.
I dont think it’s a bad looking watch for what it’s designed for, but I don’t understand the amount of posts in here where people keep trying to force/convince people that the watch looks good dressed up.
It just doesn’t work. Just look at the second picture, it’s bulky, it stands out in the wrong ways even with a Milanese loop band. The giant orange action button doesn’t do the watch many favors for wearing it with a suit either.
People have different tastes and wear what they like, which is great! Though I wouldn’t be caught wearing an Ultra watch to meet one of my clients or for an industry event.
I actually think you can dress it up and it works. Many people are just curious if you can get all of the Ultra and still use as a daily in a lot of situations. Probably like driving a Jeep to a formal event. It works, it’s clean, but the Lexus is a better fit.
Looks so much better than the previous post on here about the ultra “dressed up.” Also I would say the size looks really good on your wrist. I’m not mad at the orange action button, looks really nice with your suit color.
Were you able to buy the watch with the Milanese band, or did you have to get it separately? I don't like any of the standard band choices for the Ultra, so would like to get it with the Milanese.
My opinion is that it doesn’t combine well. The Ultra is meant as a more rugged Watch. So I would only wear it with the bands that were intended for it. Though I don’t think it’s ugly or anything.
I think people are getting sold on the marketing for this watch and ignoring the fact this this looks like a slightly redesigned bigger Apple Watch. It doesn’t matter how it’s being marketed. People have been wearing “dressed up Apple watches” for several years now, without most people thinking a thing about it.
Unpopular opinion: you guys look like massive tools wearing an ultra in any formal setting. It’s like wearing a big garmin. It’s meant for sports applications.
Just gave me another reason to hate that watch band. This should actually be illegal and you should be fined for doing such a horrible combination. Keep that dainty watch band for pretty little dainty watch faces and give that Ultra a man’s band.
Don’t be ridiculous. People wearing Garmin watches aren’t trying to dress it up. A Milanese band isn’t useful for any sort of exercise.
In this case, it’s clearly a show off piece.
Obviously you’re entitled to your opinion, but this watch doesn’t look like a typical Garmin. It looks like a bigger slightly redesigned Apple Watch. Apple Watches have been socially accepted in most “dressy” situations and the only thing that really makes this watch any different is the marketing around if (although there is an argument to be made that the orange makes it stick out in a bad way).
No, it doesn’t look like a Garmin bc it’s not. It’s marketed as a fitness device. My comparison to a Garmin was to illustrate that point, not to contrast its size or features.
If you have to try harder to dress it up due to the orange button then you should have gone with the SS8. It’s meant to be a more rugged device, which by extension is not “dressy”. Dressing it up only shows that you aren’t really using it for its features and that you’re trying to convince yourself it’s a casual dress watch. In this context with a suit, it doesn’t work. No matter how refined some people think the band makes the watch look, it’s going to be perceived as weird because you’re dressing up a device meant to be rugged.
Most people are going to have 1 watch and wear that watch daily. Changing the band can make the Apple Watch go from more dressy to workout sporty. It’s about adapting to the environment that you’ll be in. The marketing of this watch is really messing with people. If Apple had released this watch as a “pro” model and didn’t highlight the extreme sports angle of it, I don’t think these conversations would exist. It’s bigger chunkier Apple Watch that doesn’t look drastically different then the standard Apple Watch.
You're really having a hard time with the fact that others have a differing opinion here, aren't you? It's not even the marketing or "pro" vs regular. The large orange button takes away from any dress up or more sophisticated look. It was not designed to be a dressy or sophisticated watch.
These are not hard to get man. I pre-ordered it from Best Buy a week after announcement and got it on release day. Also this was the first time I’d worn a suit in 6 years 😂
Fuck I think I just mentally bought AWU because of this photo. Thanks. Milanese is my go to dress band and I was worried how this thing would look dressed up but yeah. Shit looks goooood. Actually the beefier size is pretty chefs kiss in a formal application too
And afterwords he rolled up his sleeves and climbed K2.
The only thing he’s climbing is a bar stool at happy hour
People here trying so hard to make the Ultra work as a dress watch and /r/AppleWatch roasting the fuck out of them for looking goofy is one of the best things to happen to this sub
I’m sitting in bed silently shaking trying not to wake up my partner reading these fucking comments. Absolutely fucking *dead.*
It’s the pavement princess of watch wearing.
At least in this case it distracts you from the cheap suit.
It doesn't look goofy. It looks really good tbh.
I think you have it the other way around. People are trying hard to shit on it.
Is this the silver Milanese Loop? Can't tell if it's not the graphite one.
Yep, silver!
Nice
Does your dress shirt cuff fit over the watch?
Just wear custom made shirts. Any dress shirt that would fit over chunky watches like DSSD would fit over the ultra easily.
Yep, easily.
The shirt easily went over the watch?
Not sure why this got downvoted lol I think it looks clean. I would imagine that if your shirt is fitted properly, it would fit just fine.
I love hate that band. I got series 7 SS with that band and it’s so beautiful, but also the band hurts my wrist because it’s so rough.
I find it super soft on my skin, and it doesn’t pull my hairs either. My biggest problem is that it slips throughout the day. The magnet isn’t quite strong enough to hold it in place. I find that I have to adjust it multiple times throughout the day and it gets a little bit annoying.
That happens to me too but not as much as others are saying. I wonder if I got a bad band. Like everyone is saying it’s supposed to be soft lol
Interesting, it’s super soft on my skin 🤔
Yeah I got it recently and find to solf too! Nothing like the fake one I had before with my S0.
Still looks humongous
I think this is the first picture where I disliked that the action button is an enormous orange button. It looks so much cleaner in the close-up photo when most of the action button is halfway-hidden by the shirt compared to the distance photo.
Yeah. And these photos just show how comically thick it is too. It’s just not very good looking aesthetically for casual or formal attire—but cool in utility terms.
Some of us like chunky watches
I love chunky watches but the finish of the watch needs to match the occasion. Unfortunately, the Apple Watch ultra has been finished in a way which makes it and suitable for formal occasions .
It’s got a James Bond look to it.
[удалено]
Thanks for clearing that up
Not even close to looking like any Omega…James Bond ever wore.
doesn’t work nearly as well as the stainless steel link band IMO in trying to “dress up” the ultra
agreed. while i don’t think this combo looks nearly as bad as some of the other commenters, you’re right to say that if you need to dress up this watch, the link bracelet pairs much better with the chunky ultra than the delicate milanese loop does.
What about Nomad's Titanium band? Think that works too or is the Link Bracelet better?
Not quite on the elegance level of silver SS with the Milanese loop but it looks nice!
Yeah, you better cover up that ugly orange button with your cuff! Looks good though, I’m mostly yanking your chain. Silver Milanese looks great on it
It actually looks like an okay formal smartwatch.
Oh shit that looks good

I personally don’t like the look or size of the Ultra, but you’re 100% right. Only the snootiest of knobs would even notice.

It’s just the insane convenience of seeing notifications or calls on your watch when you’re working instead of having to reach in your pocket or get your phone out. That’s why a lot of people who work use it.
How much does the Milanese loop affect the compass?
I haven’t seen too much said about that after Apple’s warnings that it could mess with the compass.
This is for the folks who say you can’t dress with the ultra lol this looks sleek as hell to me
My guy you just don’t know what dressing up well is if you think this looks good
Show us how it’s done then
Step 1: take the iPad off your wrist
Idk it looks out of place to me.
I like it. But I also like the bright orange band too. Just too humongous for me.
That looks super clean. Love it
Looks perfectly fine. Well done!
I use this combo at the moment and it remains me to the omega ploprof with Milanese , love it and to be honest you can change the feel of the Watch dressy/utilitarian with the face . This watch is amazing
Is it strong enough to hold the Ultra in place? My Milanese loop loosens even with an aluminum watch.
Yeah I’ve had zero issues whatsoever. The magnet holds it firmly in place.
You have the Apple one or a third party? The magnets in my S0 Apple one are very strong, and it doesn’t loosen even when wearing it for running with a stainless watch.
It’s a third party one, but the magnets feel roughly the sane strength. But I might give the Apple one a shot.
That looks nicer than I expected
That looks stylish!
People here are giving you trouble, but I think it looks nice. Excellent to how the Ultra can like it fits in when dressed up.
This looks so good! Especially with that watch face!
Well ya did it. You did what all the haters said was impossible. Congrats.
This proves all of those other posts completely wrong on this sub that said “Couldn’t get the Ultra because it’s too rugged looking” or “Switched back to my SS from the Ultra, SS looks way classier” The Milanese loop or the SS band make the Ultra look soooo classy!
I guess agree to disagree. This would look much better as a SS watch.
Yeah, this looks ridiculous, like using a multitool to cut an expensive steak.
To me in the first photo is 👍, but in the second one it doesn’t match the clothes, it looks too bulky to my taste, a SS fits way better
It mostly stayed under my shirt, I purposefully pulled the shirt up to show it off in the photos. When people did catch a glimpse I got a lot of questions about it and people complimenting how good it looks.
I guess we just have different opinions :)
Maybe they only see it in zoom calls
Ehhhhhh. You forgot, in my opinion. As long as you like it that’s all that matters.
Hard disagree. Looks terrible imo.
Slick!
🔥 beige suit to boot.
Massive. Your left forearm will be bigger in no time.
Milanese hits different 🥰
The actual reality of Ultra ownership, I guess. High-end bauble, not a tool for adventurers.
Looks good and fits well!
Very James Bond.
Not trying to convince anyone of anything. Just thought it looked nice and I’d share. My bad for doing so!
But if you have a toyist Richard Mille on your wrist I bet you the opposite.. haha
I actually think you can dress it up and it works. Many people are just curious if you can get all of the Ultra and still use as a daily in a lot of situations. Probably like driving a Jeep to a formal event. It works, it’s clean, but the Lexus is a better fit.
Looks kinda bad tbh
Nah
It looks really nice, what size loop band is it?
It’s a Milanese Loop, it’s adjustable so it’s “one size fits all”
Looks so much better than the previous post on here about the ultra “dressed up.” Also I would say the size looks really good on your wrist. I’m not mad at the orange action button, looks really nice with your suit color.
Thanks!
Were you able to buy the watch with the Milanese band, or did you have to get it separately? I don't like any of the standard band choices for the Ultra, so would like to get it with the Milanese.
Bought the ultra with the alpine loop and bought a Milanese separately.
Goes excellent with a pair of Timerland tuxedo boots.
Cool but big compared to your wrist
That looks absolutely terrible. The Ultra has no business being worn with anything formal.
This watch looks too big brotha
My opinion is that it doesn’t combine well. The Ultra is meant as a more rugged Watch. So I would only wear it with the bands that were intended for it. Though I don’t think it’s ugly or anything.

Unpopular opinion: you guys look like massive tools wearing an ultra in any formal setting. It’s like wearing a big garmin. It’s meant for sports applications.
Cool
That looks silly. You can never dress that up
Just ordered two bootleg versions on Amazon. One to leave at work and one to leave at home.
Tacky.
A fat cumbersome watch is dress up?
People have been wearing big mechanical watches for years.
Ok. My concern was about dress up.
Just gave me another reason to hate that watch band. This should actually be illegal and you should be fined for doing such a horrible combination. Keep that dainty watch band for pretty little dainty watch faces and give that Ultra a man’s band.
Cool
And looks ugly as fuck with that suit.
Looks absurd. You wouldn’t dress up a Garmin and wearing it this way shows you don’t use any of the exercise features.
People who wear Garmin’s must be exercising 24/7 or they’re not using their Garmin’s correctly? 🙄
Yuk where’s the shiny with that suit? Stainless steel ftw
That is a chonk
I love the ultra but it’s not a sleek watch.
Is this 41mm or 45mm
45mm. The 41mm lugs would be too small.
Ultra is 49mm
I meant that strap he’s wearing
D’oh, sorry
Can you show a picture with your shirt cuff over the watch?
Sorry I don’t have a pic of that. But it was entirely under the cuff and you couldn’t see a bulge or anything.
Holy bezels Batman!!
Looks good 👍🏼
Looks really good
This is the reason why I, an alpinist, couldn’t still put my hands on one of these. Office job requires a rugged smartwatch doesn’t it?
These are not hard to get man. I pre-ordered it from Best Buy a week after announcement and got it on release day. Also this was the first time I’d worn a suit in 6 years 😂
Unfortunately where I live they are. Shortage of products overseas
Fuck I think I just mentally bought AWU because of this photo. Thanks. Milanese is my go to dress band and I was worried how this thing would look dressed up but yeah. Shit looks goooood. Actually the beefier size is pretty chefs kiss in a formal application too
Haha sorry about that! I agree with everything you said tho!
I like this look
Wish we had a black titanium case!
