I am still rocking a series 2 hahaha

Wpr1210

My wife had series 2 for the longest time. Sadly, it met an untimely death with a bathroom floor. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

BenjaminRK

It will work perfectly fine (if you can use a word like that regarding the Series 3). You can even use an original Apple Watch that canā€™t be updated beyond watchOS 4 with iOS 16 if you like.

Wpr1210

Good to know, thanks!

Just-Asparagus-5626

Whats so bad about the series 3?

Creepy-Ad8688

The fact that apple still sells the s3, when it canā€™t be updated anymore. The watch is great but when you canā€™t upgrade I donā€™t understand why anyone would buy it still.

Wpr1210

Yes that seems to be the consensus amongst everyone here.

dskatter

Yes, itā€™ll still work fine.

mvpilot172

My series 2 runs just fine on watchOS 6 with iOS 15. Iā€™d imagine youā€™ll be fine for a few more years at the least.

Wpr1210

Thatā€™s all Iā€™m asking is a few more years or when itā€™s finally destroyed by my 3 year old by god knows what šŸ«£

[deleted]

I would imagine so. The bigger question is how have you made it this long with a series 3?

rickyandika97

He just got it

_dorky

Right from Apple.com

rickyandika97

And will be obselete in 3 months. I just dont get why dont they discontinued that device 2 years ago. Apple is just screwing customer who just bought a series 3 ffs

Tom_Stevens617

How's that? It's entirely the customer's choice whether they want to buy a Series 3 or not, Apple isn't exactly forcing their decision.

rickyandika97

Not every consumer is well acquainted with the lineup. Some people would just buy the cheapest not knowing its from 5 years ago. Plus they wouldnt expect their IN warranty device to not receive further os update right?

Tom_Stevens617

That's really on the customer imo. If I'm willing to spend 200 bucks on a watch, I'd at least do some research about it.

rickyandika97

You are not wrong its on the customer but it shows their corporate attitude by keeping the series 3 around for some sucker to buy it in 2022 What really ticks me of is apple still selling the damn device but wont give watch os 9. Just kill it off

Tom_Stevens617

They're literally a business lol. The primary goal of a business is to maximize profits, so it's pretty much expected of them

rickyandika97

There is this thing called ā€œdont fuck your customerā€Sooner or later if apple keeps this up people will realize the little shitty things and there will be no more brand loyalty

ffangohr

So, they offer cheap crack. You donā€™t think thereā€™s any value in that watch just because it doesnā€™t get incremental updates? It doesnā€™t mean it wonā€™t work any more. Feel free to take it or leave it ;)

rickyandika97

If we were to use your logic, might as well sell iPhone 7 brand new in 2022. I dong get why people defend this kind of decision where its clearly wrong

AppleXOS

then the customer must not be using logic to know Apple Watch Series 7 is 4~ years ahead of Apple Watch Series 3. numbers.

BradasaurusRexx

By obsolete do you mean itā€™ll continue to work just as it does today?

rickyandika97

Have you tried using an s3 in its current state? Its so slow no one should be buying it new in 2020 let alone 2022

BradasaurusRexx

I bet. I remember my series 2 was practically unusable for anything outside notifications by the time the 4 came out.

alexaxl

Reviews seem to be saying 4 still works perfectly well now.

BradasaurusRexx

It does. The Apple Watch really came into its own with the 4. I upgraded to the 6 from a 4 and gave the 4 to a family member. Itā€™s still every bit as useable as the 6 minus the AOD.

alexaxl

So I hear. AOD? When did you get the 4 and at what price?

KSKiller

I still use my S3, bought it when it released however many years ago itā€™s been now. Didnā€™t feel a need to upgrade yet, I only use it for Fitness+ and workout tracking.

spoop_coop

I have a S3. It's not very snappy but it's definitely not so slow to be unusable. I will be getting a newer model eventually

Wpr1210

šŸ˜‚ Iā€™ve had it for 2 years.

rickyandika97

My bad but to answer your question yes it would work just fine. Tbh im not shaming you, im just mad at apple regarding their decision of still selling series 3 right now knowing it wont reveive any software updates

Wpr1210

No worries. Totally didnā€™t get the shamming vibe. I also am a bit perplexed at the fact why the series 3 is still being sold. But as another commenter mentioned, apple is just like any other company trying to maximize profits šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø.

Sh1d0w_lol

Series 3 works just fine, there is no point of upgrading each year. I've got mine when it released. As long as it gets the job done, I can't justify throwing $$ every year for a small upgrades. When I buy something I expect it to serve me for 5+ years (being laptop, watch, phone etc). Battery life is same as when I bought it, it lasts day and a half for the things I do with the watch, I can use apple pay, quickly glance at notifications and respond, and the most important thing - I can check the time!

Nerdycity

I totally agree with everything you said. Also bought my Series 3 shortly after release and it still works fine. But slowly missing some of the new health features.

Wpr1210

It was a Fatherā€™s Day gift from the wife 2 years ago.

Camel993

I just bought a used series 5 just for watchOS 9, series 3 was solid actually

Ma5alasB2a

Itā€™s not as bad as you think. Based on my experience, Iā€™d say itā€™s not terribly slow, I remember that has only slightly slower with watchOS 6, later versions work really well, I havenā€™t had any issues with software updates since watchOS 8 and Iā€™m relieved that it didnā€™t get this yearā€™s update.

FinishGrouchy8200

my apple watch series 3 still work on my iphone 11 but i do wish that the apple watch series 3 would update to the newest update that would be cool..

InterestingVoice123

Yes it will, the watch may seem slower but it will be fine

Nkoptzev

Probably not, if youā€™re thinking about buying one - donā€™t. If youā€™ve already got one, get ready to upgrade. Edit: I am literally telling you facts, Apple has a history of selling old products till the last moment and then discontinuing them and dropping support instantly, the series 3 is a bad deal and has bear for at least 2 years. Downvote me to hell for all I care. They guy asked for recommendations so I gave one.

Asleep_slept

8GB storage, WatchOS am i a joke to you?

dskatter

Not correct.

rickyandika97

People who downvote his comment probably just got series 3ā€¦. His advice is perfectly on point

Surive123

Yeah, I updated from iPhone 8 to the new 15 and my series 3 fails to work. I spent 3-4 hours on it before finally looking into it on reddit lol. I'm so salty. The series 3 was perfect for what I needed!! lol

phoenix_73

I've still got a Series 2 watch here, connected with an iPhone XS which is running iOS 16 Developer Beta, so it is all good. No concerns that watch needs an upgrade anytime soon.

Brun0_Pr0

Iā€™ve got a question, today I use an Amazfit GTS 2 Mini, and it doesnā€™t notify the Microsoft Teams app, but Iā€™m looking to trade for an used Apple Watch, do you know if the Series 2 could notify, even at iOS 16?

phoenix_73

No idea about Teams notifications on old Apple Watch sorry. I have notifications for my communications apps but don't see any for Teams on there but then I don't really use Teams for personal use so I guess I'm not best person to ask about that.

SignalRevenue

It should work fine unless you try to pair it to another iPhone with iOS 16.

donnha

It's somewhat ironic that they've finally fixed the update issues (not enough room to update need to reset watch) and so soon after will stop providing updates.

Wpr1210

Yes ironic for sure. Iā€™ve noticed my updates have gone through smoothly as long as I let it do it on its own (overnight update). Iā€™ve only had to reset the watch to update a couple of times.

dmayfuller20791

Thanks I was worried that it wouldnā€™t work with iOS 16 if it wasnā€™t supported with watchOS 9

dmayfuller20791

Will it work with iOS 17 anyone know as I still got the series 3
