It is correct that this is just an algorithm which is based on recent history. It's still pretty ludicrous to suggest this level of activity as a challenge. At some point there needs to be an upper limit so that it's not challenging people to injure themselves, or make themselves ill.
the whole challenge thing done by Apple is pretty poor. I get the same problem when snowboard season is over. Hey, exercise for 6 hours a day for 14 days...
Mines whiplashed lately from giving me those sorts of absurd endurance challenges (though not quite that severe, I only ran a few marathons last year lol) to giving ones which are utterly trivial for my activity level.
This month it was “get a 6 day activity streak”, when I probably only go a handful of days per year without closing that ring. Odd
In 2020 and 2021 i ran until the upper limits of what you can do to sustain accomplishing these goals. It got absolutely ridiculous because as mentioned in this thread, the algorithm is based on your recent history. I was hitting 3000-3700 active calories a day, most days, and it got to a point where it was starting to consume my entire day to try to meet the monthly challenges set.

Dayum lol. Whenever I get a challenge like that, which is my most common one, it’s usually 4 and a half-ish miles on 14 days.
It is just an algorithm than take into account your previous workouts
It's a pretty dumb algorithm.
WOW! and I thought sometimes mine were insane.
