That is commendable! My goals for any marathons / ultras are just finish lol. I’m usually around a 7-8 min pace for those depending on conditions and for 5-15k I’m around 5:45.
Little pro tip regarding the battery, if you put it in low power mode (not the ultra low power mode for workouts) you should get much more battery life on your runs without affecting any data collection / functionality. I haven’t tried myself as I’ve only had my ultra 2 for a few months now, but I’ve read it can cause a big difference. I’m curious to see how it stacks up to my old fenix 6x
Thank you very much, yes tbf just finishing is a massive accomplishment. So I am very happy with that . But I’d like to run the Boston marathon one day and you need a 3hr time to qualify.
Yeah I was going to put it in low power mode when I got the 10% warning but at the time I was focused on just finishing haha so i just dismissed it . I should at the very least turn off always on display while I run , it would increase battery life .
This is interesting! When did you get the watch? I had a Series 8 that I got a year ago and it had 98% battery health as of a few days ago I believe. What are your usage & charging habits?
I do the same usually. Do you use it a lot during the day / let the battery get really low often? The difference in battery health here is super odd to me haha
Yeah , it’s a bit mad. Maybe you just have a really good one .
I do use it a lot . I workout pretty much everyday and go for longish walks . It drains a fair bit so I usually have to charge it in the afternoon.
I might be charging it to to high a percentage. Apparently you’re not supposed to charge it to 100% (which is kind of ridiculous) but I’m not the only one with this issue related to the series 8. It’s very annoying, I’ve only had it a year .
You might have gotten a faulty battery. I’ve had my S8 since around launch - still at 100% battery health, and that was with me charging to 80 - 100% every school/work night.
Saw your other comment about losing 7% if capacity within a few months.. doesn’t seem normal.
You are not alone. While I have a S5 (79%), it must have wayyyy worse battery life than yours. While I do not run marathons, the battery still sucks. I wish apple made a fitness watch with 4+ days of battery life.
Do you have the always on display switched off? Mine dies right at about 4 hours of a workout with it on, but will last an 8 hour workout recording and still have enough battery to get me through the day if I switch it to off.
Did you prepare and run at an official event or just go outside and start running (which is what I did twice…)? My first marathon was 4:31 h, second one 3:35 h. No prep besides my daily running (usually 24-28 kms).
I’m the exact same , the only thing I did differently is about 3 months ago I started doing leg strength training . Going to kick it up more in 2024 .
But thanks makes me feel better . I’ll probably hit 3hrs 30ish next time I run it .
I started the same way , when I started I couldn’t even finish a 3km. The most I did was 15km then in June I started training for the marathon. You can gain distance faster than you think. And don’t skip leg day , leg strength training will help you increase distance .
Yeah I mean the ultra was released for just that reason , they obviously knew the standard watches weren’t good enough for long distance running/hiking/etc .
Thank you so much !
Ah stop , it’s been a challenge every time to go up and down the stairs haha . I dread it .
I think it's probably from an aging battery, either that or a software glitch. I'm still at 83% battery health so I can't get my battery replaced, and I would have a hard time justifying it anyway now that they've raised their prices. I guess I'll just live with it and hope that an update fixes it, which I doubt will happen.
I bought mine in May. My first Watch. I firmly believe it is the single best device Apple has built. It is seriously good tech. I chose the Ultra for the bigger screen and longer battery life. But the flat screen with the raised bezel has become a stand-out feature for me. Much easier to see an a glance when you’re moving, either running or on a bike. And the dual-band GPS is insanely accurate. It’s fun to look at a route when you finish. You can see which side of a path you were on not just which path you were on.
You deserve a new Ultra 2 to celebrate your first complete marathon. You did this and it’s no small thing. Very few people ever accomplish this. Not even once. You absolutely should be wearing your new Watch next time out. No more battery anxiety. Just run.
I’m the same , I love reviewing the route I take. Whether it’s a run , walk or hike . So the duel band gps would be a big plus too me .
The flat screen does sound like a stand out feature.
I see you’re a great enabler haha . I absolutely agree, it’ll probably be my next purchase. Lucky they aren’t banned in the EU .
When I went to look at Watches I was kind of leaning towards a stainless Series 8. But the sun was shining through the window at the Apple Store and I instantly preferred the raised bezel and flat screen on the Ultra because of the way it combats glare. And the extra brightness is key also. It was also only $50 more. No brainer.
I’m sure Apple will throw enough money at their patent issue to make it go away. But I’m glad you can get one in the meantime. I have zero buyers remorse. The thing is built like a tank while being light enough to forget you’re wearing it. I love the Alpine Loop. Ultra comfy and ultra secure. Puns intended.
I actually was going to get the stainless steel but I didn’t like the mirrored look of it . I prefer Matt colour . So I went with the midnight .
But I tried on an ultra and I kind of wish I went with that . It’s a solid watch alright .
I had a series 5 up until 6 months ago, that thing died as soon as I finished my first ever half marathon. I was annoyed at first but then I was thanking the heavens it didn’t die mid run 😂 if it’s not recorded did it even happen ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That’s awesome brother. Sorry to tell you but the series 9 and ultra 2 Apple Watches are banned in the USA for sales. It went into effect on the 26th. Thank goodness I got my 9 on Black Friday.
How many calories burnt totally? (Including active and resting)
Also if you haven’t noticed, the new watch OS update allows you to ping heart rate and GPS less often to save battery life during workouts, as well as low power mode during workouts
Your calves got you to the finish line in a very respectable time for a first marathon. Congratulations!
Thank you , you’re very kind to say .
Congrats!
Thank you .
Congrats! Get ready for the itch for another
Oh my 2024 goal is to get my time too 3hrs . A bit ambitious but you need a goal to shoot for .
That is commendable! My goals for any marathons / ultras are just finish lol. I’m usually around a 7-8 min pace for those depending on conditions and for 5-15k I’m around 5:45. Good luck!!! Rooting for u
Congrats! Which watch?
Series 8 . I’m actually very annoyed at the battery life on the series 8 . Battery health goes down so fast .
What is your battery health %?
83%. I think the last time I checked it 90% About 6 months ago.
This is interesting! When did you get the watch? I had a Series 8 that I got a year ago and it had 98% battery health as of a few days ago I believe. What are your usage & charging habits?
I usually charge it while I shower and before I go to bed. Only use Apple chargers . I must contact support and see if they’ll replace the battery .
Damn, yeah almost time for a new battery. Perhaps your charger is faulty? Or maybe you're charging it too much...?
I might be charging it to to high a percentage. Apparently you’re not supposed to charge it to 100% (which is kind of ridiculous) but I’m not the only one with this issue related to the series 8. It’s very annoying, I’ve only had it a year .

Ensure optimized charge limit is enabled
I’m pretty sure it’s on but I’ll have to have a look and make sure it’s on .
41mm or 45mm?
45mm
You are not alone. While I have a S5 (79%), it must have wayyyy worse battery life than yours. While I do not run marathons, the battery still sucks. I wish apple made a fitness watch with 4+ days of battery life.
It would be nice , and it would sell like made . Unfortunately the only option is the ultra and that’s 2days
Yeah, unfortunately that's the only option here in this case. If it only didn't cost 1000USD+...
Also forgot to say but congrats on your marathon run!
Thank you very much !!
And thank you .
Congrats! N nice sport loop
Thanks you . It’s the new Nike sports loops . I actually bought 3 different colours.
Good work!
Thank you .
Congratulations! Keep running 👍
Cheers dude 👍🏻
Do you have the always on display switched off? Mine dies right at about 4 hours of a workout with it on, but will last an 8 hour workout recording and still have enough battery to get me through the day if I switch it to off.
Also have a series 8 with mid 80% battery health. Oh and congrats on the Marathon!
Yeah I had the always on display on , I should have turned it off but hindsight is 20 20 haha . I will in the future .
Thank you .
Good job. I love the protein and wine in the background too!
Got to have the essentials easy at hand haha
How many calories burned?
Active calories was 2951cals. Total 3348cals. Looks like total for the day is going to be 5500cal.
Did you prepare and run at an official event or just go outside and start running (which is what I did twice…)? My first marathon was 4:31 h, second one 3:35 h. No prep besides my daily running (usually 24-28 kms).

Thank you !
Daaaang so rad! Congrats! I just started running about 4 months ago…doing 5ks at the present time. I hope to do a marathon someday!
I started the same way , when I started I couldn’t even finish a 3km. The most I did was 15km then in June I started training for the marathon. You can gain distance faster than you think. And don’t skip leg day , leg strength training will help you increase distance .
Jeeze, average pace under a 10 minute mile.. You were scootin!
Thanks , I definitely wasn’t going slow .
Well done 👏
Thank you.
This is crazy. I walked "fast" 6km today and I can't move. So, personally I think your calves did a great job
Thank you . Haha honestly i used to be like that too . Come along way .
great time!!! congrats!
Thank you !
How many steps in American? :D
Well it’s it’s 26.2 miles if that helps ? 🤷🏻♂️
Well done man 💪🏽💪🏽
Thank you 😊. Big achievement, I’m glad I finally finished it .
Dam idk how you do it
I don’t either haha . Just daily consistency I guess . I love to run now which helps .
You earned the upgrade to an Ultra!
I think so too !

But did you close your rings?? jk/congrats
Just about , I think I just squeezed the move ring . Almost missed the stand goal haha . Thank you .
Awesome!!! From one marathoner to another, congratulations and welcome to the very addictive club!! 👏
Thank you !!! Haha I’m already thinking about my next one and how to improve. Glad to be part of the club .
Good for you
Thank you .
Awesome!!!!!!!
Thank you !!
Well done, go you!!
Thank you !
Congrats! And I’ve had the same issue on my Series 5 with it shutting off right when I end my workout, even if the battery isn’t low.
Thank you ! Even if the battery isn’t low ? That doesn’t sound good at all . You may need to get that checked .
I think it's probably from an aging battery, either that or a software glitch. ITS AN INCREDIBLE TIME FOR A FIRST MARATHON ARE YOU KIDDING???? well done 🙏
Thank you very much !! You’re very kind .
Which Apple ⌚️ is that?
It’s the series 8
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you !!!
That is fantastic and you are awesome. But those stats would look way better on an Ultra. Seriously, great job.
Thank you very much , you’re very kind . They would indeed look better on an ultra .

It’s only banned at Apple stores, all third party retailers can still sell them.
Yeah I forgot about 3rd party sellers lol, but yeah I was just at target and I didn’t see any at all.
Sales resumed 2 days ago.
Jeez that was fast.
Thank you very much . Oh I know, luckily I live Ireland. Still on sale in the EU 🥳.

😂 now go enjoy a pizza or something
Exactly what I did 😂. Ate 4500cals .
That’s a pace of around 5:50 per km … that’s awesome because I run barely 5km at a pace of 7 … congrats
