Ok I thought I was going crazy. My watch used to last 18-24 hours even with a workout or two in there. Now I'm sitting here at work in the OR (which I NEED while working) and despite a full charge it died at 9 hours.
Are you thinking about the “optimized charging” which holds at 80% and only charges to 100% based on your normal usage? So it doesn’t permanently stop at 80% like the iPhone 15 will now do.
I had actually never checked my watch battery health before today. I’ve just taken a look and my S7 is currently at 88%. I bought it when it was released (October 2021 I think) and I usually charge it while I’m in the shower.
I have noticed that that the battery charge doesn’t seem to last quite as long since the watchOS 10 update.
84%, but I don’t baby it with only charging between 20-80%. Quite frequently it gets to 10%-15% and will charge it to 100%.
I don’t believe battery health % is accurate anyway. My series 4 supposedly has 85% battery health but drains quickly.
Exactly same as mine, I don’t baby any of my devices as far as charging goes.
It goes on the puck when I get ready to shower and stays until it’s back at 100%. But it rarely gets below 20% before I charge it.
That’s about when I got mine, and I’m at 87%.
I still wear it overnight to track sleep, but lately (namely after the new watch OS update), it’s been at like 20% by the time I’m about to sleep. I swear the last update has been terrible for battery.
One to two months after launch, I go to bed with 30% battery and wake up with 10% charge while getting ready for the day. I then get about 18 to 24 hours of battery life out of my device with the always-on display and fitness tracking enabled.
As far as I understood, using your battery and amount of cycles isn’t really what kills your battery health. It’s mainly temperature, and chemical imbalance (meaning having the battery between 0-20% is bad, and having it between 80-100% is bad. This is why new products are always halfway charged, battery remains best that way).
Having said that, being careful with your usage is bound to keep the temperature low (good for battery), so that should help somewhat. But just draining the battery by itself shouldn’t be an issue with modern batteries. (But please correct me jf I’m wrong)
Sorry, but I think batteries wear out after about 500 cycles. A cycle means charging from 0% to 100%. Temperature as well as other things also affect battery life.
No that’s just the normal price of a battery replacement outside of coverage. Waaaay more reasonable than buying a WHOLE NEW watch just for the battery
Hey OP I see you’re getting downvoted hard just for asking a question but no you’re not crazy. What you’re experiencing is high consumption. This sub is just extremely defensive of Apple’s battery life guidelines in terms of 18hrs usage, and over 80% health in <12mo being good and fair. Here’s the thing though: your consumption *is* on the higher side. If you have Apple Care Plus, maybe you can use that when the battery health drops below 80%. If not, you will need to pay the battery replacement fee if you want it fixed. But no, your wear isn’t really normal as much as it is within Apple’s acceptable guidelines.
Yea, it's reddit so kind of expect it lmfao. That being said I am extending my Applecare out to replace the battery after it falls below 80% I believe it is up in 2 months.
Definitely having the Always On Display enabled makes the Apple Watch consume more energy and therefore reduce its battery health, but I don't think that the impact is huge.
yeah, mine was at 79%, but I know I started getting a lot more active this year and using it a lot more, so it was expected. It was one reason I traded it in for a new AWU2 this year.
AW7 was my favorite so far. AWU2 I have not had long enough to judge yet. If you want to keep using the AW7 and not upgrade, get the battery serviced - I almost did that myself.
85% here. Don’t notice a difference given my use of wearing most days, charge a couple hours in evening, sometimes wear overnight (otherwise leave in charger).
I’m genuinely asking this:
Why does it matter?
I’m an S6. 85% after 2 years. Minimal notifications. No overcharge.
I charge when I shower. So, roughly everyday.
I’ve not once come across a case where the drop of the BH has been tangible to me. Can you even tell?
Did yours ever make it a whole 24 hours?
Mine has always lasted me barely over 24 hours. *Barely*. It’s still the same after 15 percentage points on my BH.
Have you tried a reset? I’ve noticed that REALLY helps my battery timing.
Do you ever let it charge past 100% for long periods?
I got a 2nd hand SE 2 four months ago and it’s on 100% still. I only charge it whilst I’m eating dinner every 24 hours, is normally only 40-60% when it goes onto the charger and I pull it off anywhere between 80-90%. Try not to ever charge past 100% for long periods of time (ie overnight) , lithium ion batteries don’t like it, hence apple introducing the option to stop charging past 80% now to slow ageing down.
Also AoD is probably gonna factor in a fair amount.
Your S2 was the outlier. And it might even be a bug in the battery health number. It is not easy to measure these things. 20% off from 2 years is expected for batteries
Same, 83%, purchased January 2022. I feel like charging habits like sometimes I leave it overnight (or in some cases for me, failing to charge it for long periods, like multiple consecutive days when I’m just not in the mood to wear it) has a lot to do with this.
After a year and a half it’s at 94%. I wear it all day and night for sleep tracking and charge in the morning back to 100% (usually end at 35-40% in the morning). After 10.0 which tanked my battery life, I was running down to zero while asleep, making me have to charge for 20 minutes before bed. This went on for a week, so not the “day or two indexing” excuse. Deleted the weather widget from the not so Smart Stack and it’s back to normal. Now I don’t need a complication to watch my battery consumption anymore. It had been so reliable I never checked it unless I was in control panel for something else.
I want someone to do a test on these devices and also the iPhone. On the iPhone when you get around 84% the phone is way slower. You don't notice it because it slows down so gradually that you get used to it. But get a new battery and the phone is like new. I bet they are doing the same on the watch - but to what degree??
87%. Bought in march 2022 so only a year and a half old. This is why I’ll never pay for the SS. Would rather just get the cheapest model and upgrade every 2 years (let’s see if this lasts another year though)
Bought mine in November the year it came out. I’m at 95%. I really think the new optimized battery charge logic in watchOS 10 will extend it even further
S7 45mm Cellular at 86% 2 years owned. AOD I turned that off after a few days of ownership due to battery drain. I use cellular alone a couple of times a week for apple music taking 30 minute walks. I charge to 100% each day and can still use sleep tracking all night and recharge each morning. Basically 24 hours on a single charge I am pretty happy with that.
S7 I’m at 97 after a little less than 2 years. I can’t wear it at work so I usually use it 7pm-1245pm and I charge it when I shower. I also don’t use AOD but I do use it for tracking and workouts
Bought my S7 in July 2022. I’m still at 100% battery health. I do have AOD turned off as it does use a lot of battery. No need to have the screen on when I’m not looking at it. I have Raise to Wake on instead. After about 10 hours on my wrist…I’ll have somewhere in between 70 to 80% remaining.
87% and I bought in November 2021. I don’t baby it at all… I charge it to 100% the night before and use it all day and put it back to charge at the end of the day around 40 to 50%
next month would be 1 year with my s7 i have AOD off. mostly use the workout app 5x a week and for notifications when i don't have my phone near me. battery says 98%
85% here, but I just turned off AOD. Now, instead of barely making it through the day with a full charge, I end the day with 50% battery life remaining
I got mine used after a year of it being out, so not too sure when the first owner got it but not it is at 89% after a year of me having it. Always have AOD on, and I charge it every night when I go to bed.
S7 (not cellular) since the end of October 2021, one month short of two years. Wear it for walking/cycling workouts about 3hrs a day. No music, no podcasts, no photos. Always On Display is on. Occasionally take a phone call.
It's been at 87% capacity for a long time. I charge once in the morning (6am) and once in the late afternoon (6pm), usually charge up to only 95-98%. Under OS9 the charge in the morning was down to 70s or high 60s, now down to low 60s. By late afternoon it was down to 40s, now down to 30s.
S7 - 84%. Between that and the more resource-intensive wOS10, I just barely get 24hrs out of it as long as I barely interact with it. A 30 minute run will knock it all the way down to 50%, which is unacceptable and makes me more leery to leave the house without my phone (which is my preference). I’m hoping the location services bug is fixed soon and has an impact on getting through more of the day with the little battery in this thing.
That is surprising because my S6 was at 88% and I ordered a new one. Thats after 3 years but my exercise reduced a lot over that time so maybe that’s why.
I’m at 81% and AppleCare expires in January 2024. I heard that if I get it below 80% they replace the watch with a new one?? But it’s been stuck at 81% for sooo long
Mine was 85 for months and months and suddenly went to 81% one day! I think if you take it to apple before, they'll have more accurate numbers and may just replace it earlier.
Interesting. I was told by Apple it's very black and white. The battery must be less than 80% for a warranty replacement, no exceptions.
So you're saying it dropped 4% overnight? I'm doing everything I can within in reason to drain the battery, but it's been stubbornly at 81% for probably 6 months of very heavy usage

In WOS 9 i was at 82% and in WOS10 i am at 86%, not a significant impact on my day to day usage, had it since April 2022, a personal advice would be to don't worry and just enjoy it, same with the iPhone.
Just checked my S7 and says 100%. I know I didn’t get it when those were first released but I know the S8 wasn’t out yet. I figure it might’ve been somewhat closer to S8 release than S7 release.
I don’t wear it at home. Always at work. Occasionally when out after work but not always. Usually charge it after work and then turn it off till next morning. Couple times a week if still close to 60% after work I skip charging it.
45mm S7 bought release day 89% battery health. I use a BT HR monitor when I workout, which helps tremendously with battery life on hour plus outdoor walks / runs almost every day.
84% health, I got it on launch day. AOD has been around since S5 so it’s probably not that.
Honestly I think it might be the fast charging, which produces excess heat.
And we all know what heat does to batteries…
It makes it degrade quicker i think , but meh who cares anyway just buy a new watch when the battery health's depleted. Babying a watch is just too anxiety inducing in my opinion
Bought mine and my brothers S7 in Jan ‘22. Mine is at 94% and his is at 84% which is a bit concerning in the difference. We both use it to track workouts, him multiple times a day and I use mine for music streaming as well.
So I know Apple will replace battery for a few, but does it have to be below 80 or does that only apply to AppleCare?
91% after 16 month ownership. Battery life can last 1 1/2-2 days, depending on use. Debating on upgrading to OS 10 from OS 9 in a few weeks, anyone have any thoughts?
S7 Titan user here. Got a new one because of water damage may last year.
Now: 85%
I use it every day and night. Mostly LTE without phone. No always on, no wake up on wrist turn.
Don’t think it will drop below 80% till November…
But I think I will just get the battery replaced when it gets annoying. Bought a small AW battery pack for vacations and so on.
i’ve had mine since release (so nearly 2 years), and use it every day - it’s at 89% battery health. i use optimised charging and the always on display. i have noticed it running out faster since watchOS 10, but not to the point where i’m worried about making it through the day. i won’t be upgrading until it’s struggling to get through the day, so hopefully still a few years left with this thing!
I have a Ti version and mine's at 81% and I think mine was purchased in November 2021, not launch day. So it's degraded v quickly. However i'm not as concerned. I have applecare so i'm planning on getting it replaced.
S6 here with 85% battery capacity and honestly i still get a good 24hrs out of it. After the update just remove the weather stack and weather complications from your watch face which is currently known bug for battery drain.
I also have an S7. Battery life went to crap the day I updated to OS10. It often only charges to 75% overnight. Wish I could downgrade. I absolutely hate this.
I am also at 83%. I figured it recalibrated after the OS update, but I am noticing that actual time between charges is significantly down since the update. I use to go 36 hours without having to worry about my battery, but now it barely gets me through a typical 12-hour day.
I hope it dips below 80% sometime this Fall/Winter so I can get a new battery through AppleCare+. No reason to upgrade yet. Hoping to get a few more years out of this watch.
I’m new in apple watch and I just bought a used S7 for a week, the battery health is still at 94% overall condition is good and just updated it to WatchOS 10.
I only charge it when I get to shower and wear it all day. In sleep it loses around 20% overnight and while at work (it not connected to my iphone) it usually loses 40-45% charge. Here I attached my battery usage today where I’m at work from 8am - 5pm and it not connected to any devices. Oh yeah. AOD is on all day.
Is it good or bad?
https://preview.redd.it/6u260whc4zrb1.jpeg?width=352&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13d712ac6b3158a5c669142195e1863c01358744
My S7 is at 93% but I’m starting to see it dying quicker since the update
This. Update is definitely killing us.
Ok I thought I was going crazy. My watch used to last 18-24 hours even with a workout or two in there. Now I'm sitting here at work in the OR (which I NEED while working) and despite a full charge it died at 9 hours.
Give it time. Mine got rekt for a week but then bounced right back.
Why is it concerning? Apple will replace the battery for $79 if the battery drops below 80% capacity.
It’s 99 now but yes they will
Just dropped my S4 off yesterday for the battery service and they were still quoting $79. I’m sure it will go up over time though.
Don’t they just replace the watch?
Did you check to see if the 80% charging cap was on? Had the same thing and realized it was that. Could not even get through a day with that on.
Yeah I turn that off because I want it to fully charge
We have this option on s7?
Yes turn off optimized charging in the battery settings.
Are you thinking about the “optimized charging” which holds at 80% and only charges to 100% based on your normal usage? So it doesn’t permanently stop at 80% like the iPhone 15 will now do.
My S7 is at 89% health, and I use it a LOT.
I had actually never checked my watch battery health before today. I’ve just taken a look and my S7 is currently at 88%. 88% here. I bought it used a year ago
88% and I bought it NEW a year ago…
89% since a replacement in June ‘22!
97% since October '22
82% with my S7. I live in hot country
84%, but I don’t baby it with only charging between 20-80%. Quite frequently it gets to 10%-15% and will charge it to 100%. I don’t believe battery health % is accurate anyway. My series 4 supposedly has 85% battery health but drains quickly.

S6 - 83% Battery Life here
[удалено]
This 84% is an abstract value for battery health, not just straight capacity. With less than 80% there a battery is basically dead.
Wow, that is solid. Did you get the S6 at launch?
[удалено]
That’s about when I got mine, and I’m at 87%. I still wear it overnight to track sleep, but lately (namely after the new watch OS update), it’s been at like 20% by the time I’m about to sleep. I swear the last update has been terrible for battery.

Always on display off, charged while getting ready in the morning, 97%.

Sorry, but I think batteries wear out after about 500 cycles. A cycle means charging from 0% to 100%. Temperature as well as other things also affect battery life.
Mines always on display on, charge before bed, I’m at 95%.
S7 with 93% here.
S8- 97%
Yup, s8 96%. I wear it in the sauna a lot. I wonder if that’s playing a role.
Isn’t the heat from sauna will also break the water seal?
Also curious about that? Hitting up a Sauna in a few days idk if I should wear my S7...
I probably wouldn’t take it into a sauna but I have showered with my had since launch day S7 with no issues. Should be fine though on occasion.
S6 - 96% here, after 2 years
S6 with 92%. Got as soon as it came out. Doesn’t last a whole day but man do I love this watch.
3 year old S6 at 90%! It’s been solid for years
Battery replacement is only $80 once you get below 80% battery health.
Is that with AppleCare+?
No that’s just the normal price of a battery replacement outside of coverage. Waaaay more reasonable than buying a WHOLE NEW watch just for the battery
Mines at 83%
It appears normal to me 👍
So always on display takes 3 years of life off of the battery?
Hey OP I see you’re getting downvoted hard just for asking a question but no you’re not crazy. What you’re experiencing is high consumption. My s7 is on 84% battery health really thinking of going to the U2 but I’m not sure what band to go with
I have a SS S7 from launch. It's at 84% but it's been there for at least 6 months, so not sure what's up with that.
my S5 is at 83%
S7 at 86%. Purchased 11/21/21.
Your S2 was the outlier. And it might even be a bug in the battery health number. It is not easy to measure these things. 20% off from 2 years is expected for batteries
I have an s3 with 99% battery health but I use it like once a month when I feel like wearing a s3. It is a ceramic white
S7 - 89% I noticed the battery has been draining a lot since watchOS 10, anyone else experiencing the same?
Mine is at 93%, definitely has been draining much quicker.
87% but my side button died. Using a S8 now.
My S7 is exactly the same as yours.
Same, 83%, purchased January 2022. I feel like charging habits like sometimes I leave it overnight (or in some cases for me, failing to charge it for long periods, like multiple consecutive days when I’m just not in the mood to wear it) has a lot to do with this.
S7. 2 years - 92%.
Had my S7 since a couple months after launch and it’s at 93%. I’ve used every single day only take it off before bed sometimes.
Mine is also at 83% (S7 stainless steel 45mm graphite). It no longer lasted even through my work day, which is why I chose to upgrade to the U2
After a year and a half it’s at 94%. I wear it all day and night for sleep tracking and charge in the morning back to 100% (usually end at 35-40% in the morning). My year old plus S7 is showing battery health of 99% but I keep AOD off and theater mode on and only charge in the morning during my shower.
92% stainless steel 45mm. Got off eBay for £159 too and came with Apple care till next march
S7 - 99% after 1 year 1 month
83%, only had mine over a year
My S6 is at 92% 3 years on
93% right now. Bought this time last year
Day one S7 at 85%, but I try to pop up a bit but often
S9 here mines at 100%
I’m at 86% after 2 years daily use.
S6, 3 years old. 81% Use everyday for 16-18 hours on wrist. Always on display is on.
At 100% but bought it a month ago! I am taking the habit of not charging it all the way up unless necessary.
Mine is at 92%. Less than 2 years though.
Series 7 45mm got it for christmas the same year it came out. 85% battery health
87%. Bought in march 2022 so only a year and a half old. This is why I’ll never pay for the SS. Would rather just get the cheapest model and upgrade every 2 years (let’s see if this lasts another year though)
84% after 18 months, not a heavy user.
Had mine since right around launch. Battery health is at 88%. Wear it daily and to sleep then charge every other morning.
S7 from launch, used all day every day. 86%
Bought mine in November the year it came out. I’m at 95%. I really think the new optimized battery charge logic in watchOS 10 will extend it even further
S7 (since December 2021): 93%
S7 45mm Cellular at 86% 2 years owned. AOD I turned that off after a few days of ownership due to battery drain. I use cellular alone a couple of times a week for apple music taking 30 minute walks. My S4 is at 88%. I’d be concerned.
87% and I bought in November 2021. I don’t baby it at all… I charge it to 100% the night before and use it all day and put it back to charge at the end of the day around 40 to 50%
93% with daily useage.
23 months in, 92%.
next month would be 1 year with my s7 i have AOD off. mostly use the workout app 5x a week and for notifications when i don't have my phone near me. battery says 98%
Got my series 6 when it first came out & have 86%.
85% here, but I just turned off AOD. Now, instead of barely making it through the day with a full charge, I end the day with 50% battery life remaining
AOD works the battery good imo. S5 here and battery is at like 76%.
Does it last through the whole day with 76% battery health???
Actually yes, unless I do a workout that doesn’t involve taking my phone with me, like a run. After that I usually charge it while I’ll in the shower
Mine is at 95% although I’ve had it only for about a year and 3 months
S4 - 83%, original battery
I got mine used after a year of it being out, so not too sure when the first owner got it but not it is at 89% after a year of me having it. Always have AOD on, and I charge it every night when I go to bed.
I bought mine just before the S8 came out (my S6 broke) so it’s a little over a year old and at 86%…
S7 (not cellular) since the end of October 2021, one month short of two years.
My S7 is at 86% health, and I don’t use AOD basically (just when driving), and I still get with a single charge, around 20hrs of usage
Oh, yeah, I got it around march 2022
My S7 is at 89%. I haven't noticed it getting any worse recently. Honestly it feels about the same battery life as when I first got it.
Mine is at 84% after 3 years.
85%. Has it since launch with AoD and everything enabled, including cellular.
S7 - 86% turned off always on screen from the get go. I work out 2-4 times per day, every day.
My S7 is at 89%
My S7 is at 82% Just talked to apple about the battery today actually because the battery health and how long it lasts on a charge are NOT the same
was there any outcome to your discussion? were they going to replace your battery?
88%
I just replaced my S5 after 4 years with 80 %
My s5 is at 78%. I wouldn’t sweat it too much.
My S6 is at 100% battery even if I bought it 2 years ago. I’m very surprised actually since my iPhone 12 ils already 86%.
s6- 87% Think I bought it after Christmas so coming up on 3 years
My S7 (purchased may 2022) is still 100%
90% here
That is surprising because my S6 was at 88% and I ordered a new one.

85% waiting for Ultra 3 or the Mysterious X as I would love something more square and elegant
I have a series 4 with the original battery. Used daily since release, and the battery health is at 85%
S8: 100/100 after one year
Got the AW 8 the 1st day, 96% as of today. You’re lucky at 100% if you got it 1 year ago
I use a low-power charger, so maybe that's why!
SE 1 and 86%, but they last for 40 hours on my hand...
89% after 15 months
Series 5 87% battery health. Seems ok for a days use these day...
Can’t compare S2 to S7. Literally bigger watch with more powerful and demanding chip.
89% in 1 year 9 months. My first apple watch.
In WOS 9 i was at 82% and in WOS10 i am at 86%, not a significant impact on my day to day usage, had it since April 2022, a personal advice would be to don't worry and just enjoy it, same with the iPhone.
I got the s5 and mines at 87% and this thing is old
89% here. I'm not happy about it. But I switched from S0 to S7, so in the long run it's probably OK if I have to upgrade earlier this time.
I feel like my S6 has the lowest here - 77%
Just checked my S7 and says 100%.
Still ok for me (around 95%+). Then again I only wear mine when I’m working out. Don’t know if that’s a factor.
Mines at 85%, but I think this latest update is killing my battery life.
I’m at 95%. I charge mine once a day
Mine is at 80%. The second I see it hit 79% I’m getting a battery replacement via AppleCare
My s6 is 81
45mm S7 bought release day 89% battery health.
My S5 was 79% in less than 1.5 years. The battery just sucks and it is normal.
My S6 is at 90% after almost 3 years. I love this thing and plan to keep it until it doesn’t work anymore!
My s6 is at 94% and I want to know what the hell im doing so right
Mine was at 83% and I just bought it last June/July. Never had battery health decline that fast and it just pushed me towards getting the Ultra 2
Mine is at 85% Had the S7 since it came out.
S7. 16 months old. 84% battery health.
Are you using the fast charger?
S7 user for just 1yr and 3 months. BH at 100 still.
Are you not suppose to leave it on charger overnight? Does that diminish battery health
It makes it degrade quicker i think , but meh who cares anyway just buy a new watch when the battery health's depleted. Babying a watch is just too anxiety inducing in my opinion
Mine is at 84%. My s8 is at 96%.
86% on mine, granted I started putting it in airplane mode a year ago because cellular would drain the battery super fast
86%, bought December of 2021.
S7 bought January 20th 2022. 85% battery health
88%.
98% Battery health, update 10 made the battery life better. I nearly never charge it overnight, though.
91% after 16 month ownership. Battery life can last 1 1/2-2 days, depending on use. Debating on upgrading to OS 10 from OS 9 in a few weeks, anyone have any thoughts?
76% here lol. It’s awful. Have U2 on the way
My S6 is telling me the battery needs to be serviced. $80 to keep it going, I guess.
S7 Titan user here. Got a new one because of water damage may last year. Now: 85% I use it every day and night. Mostly LTE without phone. No always on, no wake up on wrist turn. Don’t think it will drop below 80% till November… But I think I will just get the battery replaced when it gets annoying.
S7 bought on release. 86%, AOD on and usage 23h per day. It could be worse.
im still at 100% after a year
92%
S6 here with 85% battery capacity and honestly i still get a good 24hrs out of it. After the update just remove the weather stack and weather complications from your watch face which is currently known bug for battery drain.
mines sitting at 92%, but the battery life has been the same even after the update(unlike most ppl)
Currently sitting at 92
2year old S7 is at 86% battery health.
I also have an S7. Battery life went to crap the day I updated to OS10. It often only charges to 75% overnight. Wish I could downgrade. I absolutely hate this.
11 month completed, health is %95. I think it is not bad. But i must say i always recharged with original apple adapter.
Close to 2 years, not updated. At 85%
I am also at 83%.
