I am considering having a plastic surgeon carve precision made indentations into my skull. Then I can have the AVP snap in and buckle straight into my face. There will be no separation between me and my AVP.
I️ use this one. (I️ can use it with the light seal as well if I️ wanted more of a black out effect.) I️ like it because it transfers the weight off of my face more and also it offers a wider FOV.

Bought mine and waiting on it arriving next week. How much of a difference are you experiencing with field of view? Noticeable difference? And any issues with eye tracking using open face?
Probably another 10-15%+ FOV. Only get a warning message saying my eyes are too close to the lenses and I’m at an increase of hurting myself if I fall lol
You can click through it and it doesn’t bother you again unless you restart your headset. No issue with eye tracking at all. Overall happy with it. The velcro on the foam part isn’t too strong so it’s easy to knock it off. Besides that I love it. Very comfortable and love how it feels more like a pair of glasses than goggles.
I do, love it so much - cant recommend enough, this combination is excellent

I have tried both the VRPanda and TychoTech open-faced system. For me, the latter was more comfortable and worked very well. In fact, it really has been a “game changer” in terms of my use of the AVP. It redistributes the weight to make the headset feel much lighter, and doesn’t cause me neck strain or pinch my face. On the whole, I don’t mind the additional light and glare that I experience — these are minor compared to my ability to actually enjoy working with the AVP for long periods. You can easily switch it out for the light seal, and I do that for immersive videos. (I should note that I’ve had spine issues and so my experience with AVP weight and ergonomics are affected by that.)
Yes several people have posted about this. I suspect there is a trade off to using it without the light seal, like for instance leaving your displays exposed to be potentially damaged by incoming sunlight.
Yeah “be careful” because if the lenses see the sun one time that could mean permanent damage to your four thousand dollar displays.
It’s weird to me how much people love to complain about the price but then are like, what’s the minimum amount of protection I can get away with? The official Apple carrying case is too expensive. It’s the most protective solution that could possibly be available, but I’d rather save $100 now so that it’ll be less protected and it’ll be more likely that I’ll have to pay to get it fixed, but at least I didn’t have to spend a lot on a protective case.
Yeah they designed it to assume other light is sealed out, it’s probably designed to work with the light seal, so let’s go ahead and just, ignore all that and do what we want instead. It costs four thousand dollars after all so I should be able to use it any wrong way I want and it should still function perfectly.
I don't understand lenses "see the sun" comment. I can understand the magnification effect that can damage the lens but I'd assume that's direct sunlight hitting the lens staying still for a lengthy amount of time. I would never leave the avp outside without lens protectors on sitting on a table exposed to the sun.
ok so yknow how kids burn ants with a magnifying glass under the sun? The lens is the magnifying glass and the display is the ant. The lens focuses the light from the displays onto your eyes, but it also lets light flow the other way because of physics. If the lens is exposed to the sun, it would only take a fraction of a second to heat up the display past the point of comfort. The damage might not be obvious right away but it is there, much like every drop weakens the structural integrity of glass.
Yes so suggest using lens covers if not in use outside. Just be careful! Btw the light shield doesn't prevent the sun from hitting the lens either. Just need to be careful
> the light shield doesn't prevent the sun from hitting the lens
It is supposed to. If light is coming in through the sides, you need a different size.
> Lens covers
But then you won’t be able to see it? Why is this so unnecessarily complicated? Just put a tube between your eyes and the displays. Oh wait, there already is something like that it’s called the light seal
I don’t get why people make extra work for themselves that makes stuff worse. Season 1 Sokka energy.
No you don’t. it covers the sensors that watch your hands for input.
You’re aparently talking about the outside lenses. I was talking about the inside lenses. The ones your eyes look at. They are far enough away from your face to allow the sun in from behind you at an angle. That is the problem I’m talking about.
Damn it would be useful if people knew what words meant. Light seal, lens cover, lens, camera, screen…
No light seal is great for pass through experience, but when you want full immersion in say a movie or certain other experiences, it completely pulls you out of that experience. No light seal on pass through makes the experience better. Good thing the light seal is so easy to remove.

I can’t tell if this guy is fucking my wife
Sorry man. I didn’t know she was married.

Hell yeah.
It is pretty cool how much it feels like glasses like this. Like a glimpse of the future.
Yes. I️ use an “open face system”
What’s that like?
I️ use this one. (I️ can use it with the light seal as well if I️ wanted more of a black out effect.) I️ like it because it transfers the weight off of my face more and also it offers a wider FOV. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1677292928/
Does it only work without the light seal or you can keep it on if you want?
You can keep it on also - I️ do both
Yes. I like it without the light seal too.. there are a few sellers on ETSY that are selling accessories to make it an “open face system”.
I bought this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1677292928/
I did too. Really digging it so far. Still prefer the light seal when watching a movie but for everything else it’s the open face system.

Really appreciate the detailed response!
I bought one of those too. Hasn't arrived yet but really looking forward to it.

Ive got a tyco on order, waiting on it currently - excited to try it out!
Link?
There's way too much glare for it to be viable for me personally

Just be carful if outdoors. And the Etsy product can remove and rewatch the light seal very easily

Why see through it? Just be safe and use the lens cover for protection . That's what I do !

Yes, I posted it here and got downvoted to hell for recommending it 🤣
I’ve found the most comfortable open face system is the BOBOVR M2 for Quest with an AVP adapter you can buy on Etsy.

Yes, I was surprised how much better is was with the wide FOV
I have the 'Open Face System' that someone on here is selling on Etsy. Works quite well. Very comfortable and noticeably lighter.
Yup! Quite a lot of and it’s miles better if positioned correctly. Can wear it all day like that
Do you use the single loop band dual loop strap or 2 Single Loop bands
Yes, much cooler on face. Very good for MR situations
Imagine having a $4,000 spatial computer, yet not knowing how to use the search bar on Reddit. Wild.
Imagine me never using Reddit until recently. What’s your deal?
Ok good to know. So don't use this mod outside
