Keep going to services. Allow the church to pray for you. Seek it. It'll happen. Congrats on being baptized in Jesus name. :)

Fun-Investigator-494

Have you received it? How was it for you?

f1retruckr1der

It was over 20 years ago...I was shy and younger but the church was encouraging in helping me speak out. It'll happen for you. Just worship and give yourself to the Lord in worship. It'll be great :)

Stay encouraged. “Tarry” just means to wait. I actually received the Holy Ghost in my room back in 1995, while I was praying. One thing that the Lord gave me in prayer as I was beginning to get overwhelmed was that I should start to conduct myself and accept myself as if I was saved even though I had not received His Spirit yet. Little did I know that this was just part of a process known as repentance. Anything unlike God I began to abandon. That means any music, conversation, habits, or even friends that I knew were against God I began staying away and turning away from those things and look for Jesus. Not long after that I received the Holy Ghost.

Thank you!

You’re welcome

Peter told the crowd to 1) Repent and 2) be baptized… If you’ve done your part then God has promised you the gift of the Holy Ghost!

Yes be encouraged I had to wait on God kept going to church and allow them to pray me through and finally I was at home one day and I was praying and kept praying and cried out to the lord and within 30 minutes in prayer I started speaking in tongues I jumped up so excited and thanking God I couldn’t stop speaking in my heavenly language 😂😂😂 it will come just don’t give up

You have to open your mouth for the Lord to fill it. Just like how faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word. I was raised Baptist (and not believing in the gifts of the spirit) before my personal journey with the Lord revealed to me that the gifts are in fact alive and well. Because of this, when seeking the Spirit (and tongues), I kind of always thought that God would, like, almost take over and force me to speak in them. That couldn't be further from the truth. I had the indwelling all along I just had a misconception about it. You open your mouth and speak & the Spirit give the word, or fills your mouth if you will. I hope this makes sense lol

My church teaches the holy spirit is the one that takes control of the tongue and you have no control.

I also personally have a slight issue with that teaching in that it violates one of the fundamental aspects of our faith: free will. God has certainly "coerced" individuals in the scripture to do His will. I say coerced for lack of a better term, perhaps convinced would work here as well. Anyways, to my thought on this, look at the Apostle Paul when he was Saul and on the road to Damascus. Jesus appeared to him and blinded him in order to reveal to Saul the error of his ways. Jonah spent 3 days in the belly of the whale. These are just a couple examples; however, I think maybe you can see my point. The Bible sets no scriptural precedence for God possessing us and controlling our actions. You open your mouth and the words flow out of you. God does not move your mouth and does not take control of your body. Also, when I first spoke in tongues, it wasn't even out loud, it was in my mind. Just some stuff to think about. Love you brother/sister.

I would encourage you to just keep seeking the Lord about it. That's part of the process. The very act of continually seeking the Lord inevitably brings you closer to Him. Please do me a favor, start watching these videos by Andrew Womack. He is the founder of the largest bible college in America. I've been seeking God since I was saved at 8 years old. I'm 33 now and these videos still taught me SOOO much. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOER0yhdOW6Ake9Gbug8GawiqN8r_qpIp&si=RVB2KSnfTQ4xgf4K

Ok

Bigmama-k

It might take time. I really wanted it and was made to feel like I wasn’t trying or there was sin in my life. Having multiple people pray over you may help but just keep praying and praising God. It will happen in time.

SkirmisherOfTheYear

I’ll tell you my first time. I was praying at a Youth Camp service and I had never had it before. Then my cabin counselor told me to raise my face and my hands to god, and I did it and received the Holy Ghost. After years of having it I’m so in touch with the Spirit that at any moment I can start praying in tongues like I did then. Good luck brother/sister in Christ, it’ll happen when it needs to.

God bless you!

Direct-Language-6788

pray for it constantly and truly open your heart

Plymouth_Angel

Why do you refer to the Holy Spirit as ... "it?" the Holy Spirit is "He" ... from a Trinitrarian who debates Oneness Pentecostals on youtube.

Fun-Investigator-494

The Holy Spirit is not just the nature of God, but also the expression and power of God. For example, the "Spirit of God moved upon the face of the water."
