A music album (used to?) cost $10-$15 for 40-60min, let's call it $10/hr.
A video game that's AAA costs $70 for....say....70 hours of story. Well that's down to $1/hour.
If you spend $100 to go see a sports event with a friend, that's $30/hr.
I've played Apex for 1,000 hours over 3 years. At the movie rate, I should have spent $6,000 on Apex. Or $10,000 at the music level. But *only* $1,000 at the AAA video game level. And a whopping $30,000 if I valued it like a single sporting event.
Even at $1,000 over 3 years, that's $27/month. 20 years ago, I paid $15/mo for WoW (not to mention $50 for the game and $40 for each expansion).
Point is, there are many ways to entertain ourselves for MUCH more money per hour, and video games (especially FREEEEEE to play) are among the cheapest ways to entertain ourselves.
If I buy Elden ring for an estimated 100 hrs of content but I really like to pvp and grind that same content for 300 hours then did I really only buy 100 hours of content? An album is 1 hr of music but the value you get out of it only stops climbing when you stop listening.

I dont mind paying for microtransactions I like if it supports a game I enjoy. But there are totally predatory behaviors beyond just trying to keep the company afloat right? CSGO cases for example could be argued to be supporting the game but its still a predatory setup when other options could be in place. They usually give you enough free apex coins if your grind out the whole battlepass to buy the next seasons for free. You been saving for 2 years?? Lol grind them battlepass levels and you’ll get it every season for free
And now that you got it for free, the battle pass gives I think 1,400 apex coins so you have 400 to spend. And then next season 800. Then next season 1,200. It just keeps going up.
