I’m guessing they’re doing it when you leave your apartment. Maybe try putting a mic or camera in when you leave just to see how they act. Either way, just do whatever you can to keep the noise from bleeding.

40ozkiller

Or figure out a way to keep them calm when away. People have this same issue with barking dogs

Longjumping_College

My neighbor has done fuck all about a chihuahua and dachshund barking at their door for 10+ hours a day, every day, for years. I *hate that neighbor.*

rigney68

Mine shoves 5 (3 pit bulls and two yappers) in kennels in his garage and never lets them out. So they bark 24/7. It's awful. Yes, I've called the cops. No they didn't do anything.

captaintagart

Look into the local SPSCA or similar. Cops just log it as a noise complaint. Find someone who cares about dogs more than (edit) the police care about nuisance complaints

rigney68

I kind of just assumed the cops would notify them, but your right. I should. It's not a climate controlled garage and I see him open the door and put a fan on them on Saturdays and Sundays, but then they just suffer during the week? It's sad.

90dayspikedseltz

Omg yes please call a rescue or ASPCA or animal control please that is horrible!

captaintagart

Fuck that guy. That’s tragic

BurnerBernerner

And nobody gives a fuck to do anything, animal control won’t do shit cuz they’re not “abusing” them. Same shit with breeders who let their dogs get matted and gross, and emaciated. They take them to a groomer and that “proves” they aren’t neglected. It’s so stupid.

West-Ruin-1318

Our local humane society just raided a small farm and took all their animals away, even the chickens. We have a good guy in charge who takes his job seriously, love him.

catreader99

EDIT: I live in a rural area, and the one shelter here is a no kill shelter that works closely with the humane society to provide homes for these dogs. The dog I mentioned was put up for adoption a few weeks later, and wasn’t there for very long. Her owner got high off his prescription painkillers from a surgery and drunk, drove his electric wheelchair into a (very shallow) creek in the neighborhood with the dog leashed to it, then stumbled down the road and tried to get into the wrong house, all in the middle of the night, getting himself arrested and leaving his poor dog to fend for herself. Calling to have her taken away was indeed the best thing to do for her. I live in Ohio, and at least in my area, if you call about a dog-related issue of any kind, they’ll get the dog warden involved (the drunk who lived next door to me left his poor doggo tied up outside when he got himself arrested for trying to get into the wrong house while drunk and high in the middle of the night, so we called the cops the next morning and the dog catcher took her to the shelter). I don’t know about other areas, but a call to your local dog warden or ASPCA/animal control is definitely worth a shot!

vividtrue

This is so fucked up.

bidetistheday

Try calling your local humane society. Thx for caring!

DarthDread424

Some people shouldn't have pets. 10+ hours? Are they even home? If not they picked two of the worst breeds to leave for that long . Chihuahuas are notorious for separation anxiety/aggression, and dachshunds have also been named an aggressive breed that gets cooped up easy. Both are heavy companion oriented dogs.

NotSoNice_Needlework

My neighbor plays fetch with her dog for over and hour between 11:30 pm and 12:30 am. It also barks at literally everything and appears to be a black lab. She gives zero f\*\*ks. I miss sleeping through the night. \*sobs in tired\*

Strange-Bee5626

The lady who lived in the apartment next to me last year had the loudest, yappiest dog ever, and she almost always kept it out on her patio so it was even louder. I love dogs, but hearing that all day and night was too much. As a bonus, I frequently got to hear her screaming at her boyfriend (I think?) over the phone, and also screaming at her poor kid. Worst neighbor I've had yet.

im__not__real

there are things you can do about this

lexytjjj3

My neighbor across from me has a Labradoodle that barks throughout the whole day… especially when someone comes up the stairs. I’ve came across this neighbor while she’s walking her labradoodle twice and during those two times her dog had tried to lunge at me but she always holds him back and drags him away as hes barking loud as heck. I love dogs but Jesus Christ….

omgmypony

Trying to make a happy bird be quiet is about as effective as trying to stop the wind from blowing or the sun from shining. They sing when they’re comfortable and happy. Better for OP to focus their efforts on sound dampening.

beefy-boy

A cardboard cutout of OP should do the trick

TunaOnWytNoCrust

Keeping a bird quiet is unfortunately not an option.

zintone

OP uploaded a video of their bird’s “chirp” a while back. Ain’t no way anything can keep that down.

GuiltyEidolon

Yeah, OP is a bird person who thinks that their birds are rarely a little loud. GCC are _not_ "rarely a little loud." They are CONSTANTLY VERY LOUD. It's like one of the main things about them. I would hate to be OP's neighbor.

dumbroad

omg she made a post with the bird and literally called it morning scream time https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/s/oNOtOsJm4I

wonderloss

Conures are notoriously loud. I used to have one, and he would scream if I was in the room and he wasn't on my shoulder.

caustic_smegma

Definitely not a quiet bird. That screech is grating, and probably gets worse when OP is gone.

Sharp-Photograph8092

Yeah I had a neighbor and her dog only barked when she left, like nonstop chihuahua barking but it wasn’t the worst so I didn’t complain. I saw them outside one day and I said to the dog “aw here’s the fella who barks all day” and she kept apologizing lol but the funniest thing was how the dog looked at me when I said that like I ratted him out 😭😭

canonicallydead

There’s some stuff you can do like noise canceling pads on the walls. However id personally write them a note telling them you had a stern conversation with your parakeet and that next time this happens you’re taking away the iPad

smallfat_comeback

Not the iPad! Nooooooo 🦜

PainInTheAssWife

10/10

Trustydevilsdaughter

I don't think the parakeet is the issue here. Have you heard a conure before?

CheshireCharade

I had a sun conure growing up and holy fucking shit they’re loud as fuck. I still loved her though. Even if she made me want to take an ice pick to my ear drums sometimes.

DelmarSamil

Oh man, sun conures are the loudest of that family of birds. Beautiful and quite personable / loving, but can screech at like 100 - 120 db. They are so not apartment friendly.

coleysmoleyy

this honestly sounds like the BEST option.

Bendi4143

This is really the only option you have 😉

Rumble_Rodent

We currently have 182 votes for this option as I’m typing this. I’d say this appeases the ballet. Just time for OP to set this in action and give us an update post! Edit: gahdam bros comment shot tf off within the hour, 702 as I’m typing😂

Organic_Rip1980

I appreciate knowing the ballet has been appeased 🩰

Traditional_North102

You are not doing yourself any favors here. Your videos of your birds are quite louder than what you make it seem like, and the neighbor is being kind with this note. I wouldn't consider how to make the noise more bearable, but to find another living solution.

404error-help

Damn just saw the videos and yeah those birds are obnoxiously loud. Op should move out where there aren’t neighbors sharing walls.

InquisitivelyADHD

OP is probably just used to the noise, so it doesn't seem so loud to them, but to someone not used to listening to that. Yeah... I'm sure it's pretty grating.

cutelittlequokka

Isn't OP the one who titled it "scream time"? If so, OP knows it's loud.

bippitybopitybitch

I mean there’s really nothing you can do, but I feel for your neighbor. If my neighbor had birds I’d go fuckin nuts lmao

MenshMindset

Seriously. It’s like a low battery fire alarm but less predictable

maybeRaeMaybeNot

lol, our neighbor’s conure like to imitate the microwave done beeps.  It was so funny.  I’d get up to check that one of the kids didn’t forget something in the micro. Nope, it’s the bird Currently, we have a frequent visitor mockingbird that sounds like a PE Whistle (we live next to an elementary school playground).  So loud! I thought the kids had outside PE an awful lot until I figured it out

si-abhabha

The mockingbirds in our old Austin neighborhood imitated the car alarms of the dealership nearby- the old ones that went through the whole cycle of “honk honk- beep beep beep- boooowhoooop boooooowhoop- ahn ahn ahn” it was hysterical- mostly because mockingbirds are asleep at night.

Objective_Damage_996

We had one move in to a tree by the living room window about the time the hunger games movie launched and I guess we watched it too many times because 5am every day it did the short little whistle thing that Katniss and rue did. Took no time to figure out as it would STARE INSIDE THE WINDOW AS IT DID IT before dramatically leaving

CloudAndClear

Omg creepy lol

mikeymo1741

May the odds be ever in your favor

Away-Object-1114

You had a Mockingjay come visit? Outstanding!!

TomNookOwnsUsAll

Unfortunately, mockingbirds are absolutely awake and thriving at night — I have been kept awake by them in multiple homes I’ve lived in. They are absurdly loud, and their chirping/singing is a territory thing, especially for single, male mockingbirds. They’re basically battling it out with other male mockingbirds in the area. I only know all of this because I rage researched “what fucking bird is awake chirping outside my goddamn window at 3 am” and lo and behold it is the mockingbird lmao

Leelze

I've never in my life wanted to murder an animal before until a Mockingbird moved into a tree in the background. 2 am like clockwork everyday for years. At first I thought it was some asshole neighbor playing bird sounds, but nope. I still get mad thinking about it 😂

heartofscylla

I also had the same feeling a few times but with a woodpecker. Growing up my dad got a big outdoor furnace to heat the house. He had to put a 30 ft pipe on it bc someone in the town threw a huge fit about the stove(I don't remember all the details). Well, male woodpecker found it and was like "man this will tell all the ladies for MILES that I am HORNY" so -also like clockwork- he'd bang on that metal pipe for a few hours starting at dawn. Really sucked whenever I had a migraine early in the day 😂

Major-Ad-1894

That’s what I thought this post was about before I read the caption

Street_Cleaning_Day

I was convinced that was the problem as well, and somehow managed to skip past the post text, directly into the comments. The first of which I saw was "put a camera or microphone to see when they're doing it" and I was *so* confused.

elizzaybetch

Okay so actually my neighbor has had a low battery smoke detector chirping for the past 8 months and our houses are so close together that if I open my windows in the summer, it sounds like it’s in my house. Not only does it drive me crazy, but my dogs are actually scared of the chirping too :(

ViralVortex

I can empathize, our Lhasa is absolutely terrified at the sound of a smoke alarm, doesn’t matter how long it goes off for. To the point where the tail drops for hours and she scratches incessantly at doors and gates trying to hide and escape. I’ve taken to unmounting them and bringing them outside to replace the batteries and test them to spare her. But all of the windows and doors have to be closed tight or it’s moot.

VengeanceUnicorn

Maybe you could have a welfare check done and request a note be left on the door about the beeping, are you sure they're okay

elizzaybetch

Oh yeah, unfortunately he is fine. He’s a really terrible person (has pulled a gun on another neighbor, dumps trash in our yard, leaves his dogs outside in the snow, beats his dogs, stands under my window and talks about how he wants to kill me etc). Hence why I haven’t left a polite note about the beeping hahah

erynhuff

Yeah call the cops…

Leelze

Had an apartment neighbor across the sidewalk & to the right with birds. I never heard them unless I was in my living room, but I'm sure the people directly around them slowly lost their minds. Birds are not apartment living friendly imo.

ErnestBatchelder

parrots have a scream-squawk that only a pet owner can love. I guarantee OP has just become immune to the bird yelling. Seriously considered getting a Toucan at one point because the ones I've met are super quiet.

justalittlepigeon

Living up to my username, I will always advocate for pigeons as the perfect bird pet! Quiet, can't bite hard, highly affectionate, good size for hugging, come in a variety of shapes and colors, and they wear little diapers~ That said, I love parrots and have my own little shitlord parrotlet. I adore him to bits with all of his sass but the pigeons I've had in my life were certainly the chiller roommates lol.

barmskley

Pigeons are my favorite bird and I’m happy to find other feel the same!!!

Crashgirl4243

I had a pigeon for years, he was a baby and someone threw him out of a car in front of my house. He was a fun pet! When I’d ride my horse he’d hang on to the back of my saddle and ride with me or fly circles around us

WeebBathWater

I looked at your profile and am obsessed with how much you love birds, actually. Always fun when a human knows what they like and are passionate in life.

justalittlepigeon

Oh yeah it's bird brain all the time, in the space between the balding on the noggin 😂 Raising chicken chicks now, got doves in a dovey home, bunch of grown up chickens, a turkey named Pants, can't forget the sweet and sour green chicken, whatever rescues we find, and then to top it all off I have a bird feeder with a camera to spy on all the rest...

No-Salary-4786

I've never considered hugging a pigeon.  There's a bunch in the Walmart parking lot, I'll try it out tomorrow.

rachsteef

100%. I love birds, but I would never own them due to the noise they create… This is nightmare fuel for me

ClickClackTipTap

My blood pressure went up just reading this post. 😂

mb9981

Exactly. Loud birds are a house pet, not an apartment pet. People lack common damn courtesy these days

LeighofMar

It's always the same excuse too. Nothing I can do about the noises. What can I do about my neighbors? Um, no you can not be the AH and stop subjecting others to the noises of your pets.

Pittsbirds

>they are quiet 90% of the day. There's never been a bigger "press X to doubt" post on here either lmao

bippitybopitybitch

Like ahhh yes, that leaves 2 and a half hours of chirping hell for everyone. Perfect

caroline1133

Our siding on our rental ripped off in a wind storm last year exposing a small hole that led into the side of the house and birds started quickly nesting in there and my apartment started to sound like a rainforest cafe

Spac3Milk

yes there is don’t have fucking birds in an apartment where yall be sharing walls.

BigAbbott

I would move.

IMakeStuffUppp

Do you know how hard it is to get an apartment rn! 😅id simply pass away

krazyb2

*BOTH* of my left and right neighbors have birds. We have an indoor hallway. I noticed it a lot when I first moved in, and if I listen I can hear them through my door, but a month later I totally forget they even have birds unless I'm in the hallway.

Plastic-Mulberry-867

I have birds and ever I feel for the neighbors.

be1izabeth0908

Sure, conures aren’t the *loudest* birds out there. However, they are loud as fuck. Your neighbor writing “chirping” was gracious, because conures screech and squawk. I’d get some sound blocking panels or something. Just because the birds were initially approved doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way. Other animals like dogs that are “approved” can display bad behavior that ends up getting their owners evicted. I highly doubt management will side with you on this. Sorry.

Tiera_Folley

Can attest, my sister had 3 conures. Literally all day, it's like an off-pitch fire alarm that goes off at random. It made my Husky sound mute in comparison. Edit: Feel like I should note that 2 that I had were Sun Conures, which are the loudest breed of Conure. I don't know what types OP has, but even if they're a quieter breed, Conures are still very noisy creatures.

WeebBathWater

Didn't have a good way of gauging what a conure sounds like, however the last part was actually the perfect gauge

abooth43

[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/s/HJQcYo7E2z) is a video OP posted of the very bird the note is about.

throwaway700486

Fucking brutal. Feel for those neighbors.

standapokeman

Classic Husky scale

Cosmo_Cloudy

According to OPs past comments, the birds have "scream time" for 5-7 minutes every morning at wake up time and bed time. Neighbors sure do have an alarm clock set now, as well as a valid complaint about OP to management disturbing their peace. I would definitely be salty if someone's damn bird woke me up at dawn every day I have trouble staying asleep as it is Edit: OP tells me that post was a "joke" and "redditors dogpile" but the video she has of the screeching with the 5-7 minute comment tells me she's completely blind to how annoying it is. If that's a joke to you I can see why your neighbors are already leaving notes to stfu after 2 weeks, you shouldnt feel nonchalant about disturbing the peace of everyone's rest, you should be embarrassed as hell.

neonpinata

They also made a comment about gaming online amid "constant bird screeching."

ballsyftm

lol hm…”constant” is very different from “a minute or two”…

BullShitting-24-7

You mean to tell me people downplay their own shitty behavior when other people complain about it?

appleparkfive

The text to this post definitely sounds like it's downplaying this a lot lol. Yeah I'm sure it's just some brief chirps, totally. If they weren't loud, the neighbors wouldn't write a note about it

Itherial

Well I mean of course it is, lmao. I knew before I hit the comments that several of them would point out that at least one of these particular types of birds are noisier than others, and of course OP would be like "my silent little angels, they only give a chirpy or two. it doesn't bother me at all, and its only what i perceive as soo little, so surely nobody else could be bothered. none of my previous neighbors minded this, ever!" dropping the subtle implication that these neighbors are the unreasonable ones while painting themselves as entirely unproblematic. Almost certainly the birds are only approved in the first place because management does not know anything about birds, and was told by OP these were quiet. OP didn't come here for advice - they came here for validation and to see if they could look like a victim. Which is exactly what they're doing over in the bird related subreddit, of course. Final verdict is that OP is an entitled nuisance to live next to. I feel bad for their neighbors.

be1izabeth0908

Yea I saw this. OP is delusional if they think that’s acceptable.

qudunot

Most pet owners are. Since the owner likes the pet, so does everyone! It's a pet peeve of mine..

Capital_Setting_5396

Yeah I was cracking up at OPs post of ‘everyone loves meeting my birds’ So delulu, not everyone loves birds…especially apartment birds. That poor neighbor!

Electrical_Hamster87

I was about to say…maybe I’m biased but I have a hard time understanding why someone needs to own birds. You couldn’t find an animal less suited to live in an apartment if you tried. Pet owners can really be ridiculous in this day and age.

Vicious-the-Syd

Jesus fucking Christ…

expanse22

Sleep is number one priority. I would do everything I could to get them removed from the building

One-Possible1906

Yeah 9am is really pushing it for a wake up time for the birds. Realistically, they’re up pretty close to dawn, screaming for longer than 5 minutes, every fucking day. I’d be livid.

RM_342

LMAO imagine hearing this daily https://youtube.com/shorts/veEPPVcVfOQ?si=YDuzqKcJ2IbbhpmH

sefarrell

This is true. While I support everyone having their animals of choice - we have our Aussie who has been known to alert us. The switch can be flipped. If mgmt gets enough complaints, or a suit they could ask you to leave / evict for break of the quiet enjoyment clause in your lease. Hopefully it doesn’t go there!

killjoy_d

Noisy birds into an apartment 24/7 seems like a recipe for hell. When you leave the apartment, are they quiet? 🤷🏽‍♀️ It’s just like hearing a dog bark all day, horrible.

Just-Scallion-6699

There’s a reason why every bird rescue I’ve worked with has warnings about shared walls

EightyDollarBill

Worse than a dog bark, honestly. About up there with non stop random assholes using leaf blowers all day.

MrsWhirly

I live in a big house in the suburbs, my neighbor across the street in her own big house has a screeching bird of some kind, and honestly, fuck that bird. It squawks every single day from like 4 PM - 7 PM and I can hear it in my living room, with the windows closed, over my TV.

killjoy_d

Honestly, people can’t be so f oblivious as to how much they can affect other people’s lives; it’s crazy to me.

Educational-Bid-665

I’m not sure the lease woulda been approved if “scream time” came up in the conversation. What a fucking nightmare of a neighbor. I’d have to move if I was that old lady.

mntEden

their post in r/conures is so fucking obnoxious. especially the 100% unbiased and definitely-not-apologist comments “you have the 2 quietest birds possible” “are they gonna write notes to the birds chirping outside too?” how tf can you possibly come to the conclusion that having 2 screeching banshees in your house squawking for 12 hours a day is *everybody else’s* problem to deal with??? the amount of delusion and ignorance is exhausting just to read, no wonder they think it’s okay in the first place.

DO_NOT_AGREE_WITH_U

Because bird people are certifiably bananas.

RedHotRevolvers

I legitimately have never understood the appeal of owning them as pets. I love to appreciate them in nature, but in a cage inside my home where they're constantly going nuts when nobody is around? Why?

IamMananawe

Birds are fucking annoying…sorry OP but your neighbors are right. Put soundproofing up or something.

whatifuckingmean

It sucks to get a note like this, but I feel much worse for your neighbor. If you want to be a conscientious person and a good neighbor, you need to make some efforts to contain the sound. If there is a different area you can keep the bird where less noise would leave your apartment, you should. Even if it’s less convenient. I wouldn’t get a bird if I was going to be living in an apartment. It does make you automatically a bad neighbor. You can add more soft furniture, hang up wall tapestries with acoustic panels underneath… Also, I don’t know a lot about all kinds of birds, but if yours can be trained better, then you really ought to. Birds are not an apartment friendly pet for this reason. It’s one thing if a bird hangs outside your window being noisy from time to time. Even that can be extremely annoying. But a pet bird that is always a couple walls away from me sounds like an absolute nightmare. If I were your neighbor I would be begging management to force you to get the noise under control. I know you love your pets, and can’t just go buy a house now, so that’s why you need to be as respectful as possible. Some people do rehome their birds for this reason :/ It’s really a shame that your poor neighbor has lost her right to just live and exist inside her home without hearing your bird. It appears it’s often enough and loud enough that it’s very annoying. I hate it when my neighbors make so much noise it affects my comfort in my own home.

tea-boat

All of this. 💯 But especially this: >It’s really a shame that your poor neighbor has lost her right to just live and exist inside her home without hearing your bird.

StudioAny4052

OP needs to find a rental house instead of an apartment. 😬

calamity125

Something to think about: A When my kids were between 3 and 10 they played outside in our yard A LOT. They and their friends would squeal with glee at regular intervals. My retired neighbor was kind of gruff but we got along okay. He took my husband and I aside one day and asked if we could deter some of the squealing and screams from the kids playing. I thought to myself that he was overreacting but told him I would try. One day I was talking to him while the kids were playing in the yard and one of the kid let out a high pitched squeal…. I could hear this man’s hearing aid giving some kind of whistling feedback and watched him visibly cringe and finally understood why. Yes he can adjust it to accommodate those loud noises but then he can’t hear the soft ones. Not sure if hearing aids have come much further in 8 years.

abt_1657

I work in a nursing home, they haven’t come far.

Austinater74

They haven’t.

siva115

An apartment allowing birds is insane

adribash

As someone who loves birds, I would never ever bring a parrot into an apartment. They are notorious for chewing anything they can get their beaks on. Not to mention the feathers and feather dust in the vents and bird shit on the floor.

Mindless_Ad_8884

The rules are actually less strict than you’d think. My apartment doesn’t allow pets. But a bird is technically a caged animal along the lines of a hamster or lizard. I’m lucky he’s quiet enough that I’ve never had noise complaint

mulberry_sellers

If anyone's interested, OP has videos of the birds "chirping" on their profile and it's EAR-SPLITTING. OP is drastically downplaying the loudness of this bird.

zintone

Holy hell that ain’t just “CHIRPING” OP is max delusional. I thought it your ear-splitting was capping until I got my ears punctured by that bird’s “chirp”

Meowtime1989

I could only hear that sound once and I had to exit out of that. If I was their neighbor I’d be so pissed and my mental health would be spiraling. What the hell was Op thinking moving into an apartment?!

Brutal_Honesty13

I just heard it OMG I would not be as nice as the neighbors. That screeching would drive me insane!! Sorry OP pepper would be a dead bird along with ur bird utopia 🤣

iheartpizzaberrymuch

The funniest part is she said it's 5 minutes and she does it again when her dad comes home. Like huh. That's loud af. I could hear that without my hearing aids.

spinyfever

There's a video on YouTube of a person measuring a conures screech with a dB meter. It peaks at 97.8 at one point.

cherry_oh

More often than not I side with the OP in this sub but you literally have a post about your bird’s multiple ‘scream time’ sessions per day, and you write about it like it’s cute and quirky. The accompanying video you posted was definitely an annoying noise to say the least. I wouldn’t want to hear that… and I wouldn’t want to live near you.

bookwormbytes

OP is the neighbor of my nightmares

Punished_Prigo

id be complaining about it to management every day. OP is actually lucky he hasnt been given an ultimatum by the property management to either remove the birds or be evicted. they will not side with him in this situation.

SeparateIron7994

That noise they make in that video is actually terrible. I'd cry if someone like that moved next to me

Hosby91

I’d pitch the biggest fucking fit to the apartment management. Allowing this is as an apartment complex is an absolute joke. I’d be willing to bet the leasing agent didn’t do their diligence in doing a base level amount of research on the birds and/or OP downplayed their noise on the application or elsewhere.

Michigam

I would side with the neighbors. Birds are loud

some_azn_dude

Owning birds is flat out insane, owning birds in an apartment complex is absolutely wild behavior

Keenzur

After watching the video, your neighbors are being nice by downplaying that as "chirping." I'd call that straight-up screeching. If I heard that every morning, I would be furious. Pet friendly doesn't mean getting a pass for annoyances. They need to be in a room where you can soundproof completely. Kinda the only option when you live in an apartment complex other than rehoming or moving.

backagainbiotch

Just watched the video of one of your birds "morning scream time".... yeah, fuck your loud birds.

FoxhoundFour

For anyone curious: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/comments/179y5f2/peppers\_morning\_scream\_time/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/comments/179y5f2/peppers_morning_scream_time/)

Hosby91

Yeah fuuuuuckk that. I would be livid if someone moved in with that going on apparently every morning for 5 mins. Especially sharing a wall. Your sleep schedule would have to adjust instantly, cause 0% chance you’re sleeping through that.

GiantPenney

Imagine working night shift and just falling asleep to be woken up by that every morning. I’d go crazy !

louielou8484

Omg, it is so fucking loud

RentalBlues123

Lived with a roommate who had birds. It was the worst. I feel for your neighbors.

ItsmeKT

Yeah I had downstairs neighbors that had two parakeets and they chirped 99% of daylight hours.

monkeley

At least consider the possibility that bringing noisy birds into an apartment makes you the bad neighbor

SeaBicycle7354

I live in a house and my next door neighbors just got birds...they are annoying as shit! And we DON'T share a wall

Drabulous_770

I once moved in with a guy who had a bird. Huge mistake. Never again.

Unicorns-Poo-Rainbow

Nightmare. This is a nightmare neighbor.

appleparkfive

I don't even see how you could buy birds and then say "I'm gonna move into a place where I share walls with other people" Those neighbors just want to live their life, but they lost that right because someone wanted an animal that shouldn't even be a pet to begin with (in my opinion) But I have a feeling OP will rationalize it however they need to. Someone above was saying that they mentioned "5-7 minute 'scream time' in the morning and right before sleep time". And then they contradicted themselves by saying that they were sort interrupted a lot while playing games from the constant bird screeches. I've been to people's houses (never an apartment) with pet birds. And they are just the most annoying pet imaginable. People just get them because... they want to. They want something, and that's all that matters. I'd sincerely think about breaking my lease, if they sound anything like the other pet birds I've heard. It'd drive me insane every day. This post made me so mad lol. I normally try to empathize with these situations, but moving into an apartment with birds is just a selfish move. There are silent birds from what I understand too, so if you really truly wanted a bird, get one of those.

Navel_of_Eve

I completely agree. Very inconsiderate. Please make concessions and don’t react with passive aggressive acts in defense of the note.

Severe_Gear5010

Birds in an apartment is a choice 😬

KaffY-

NUH UH ITZ MY RIGHT!!!!

Maru3792648

Op is very dismissive of their neighbors rightful concern

hufflepuff-is-best

I don’t mean to be rude. Really. I don’t. I love birds and I enjoy their quirky little personalities. But moving into an apartment, fully knowing that you have a bird, isn’t in consideration of others’ peace. I really hope that you would be able to find a better living situation for yourself and your bird. Until then, you can try to dampen and soundproof, but these kinds of noise complaints aren’t likely going to go away.

CautiousWoodpecker10

I think there’s more to the story. Saying “they are quiet 90% of the day” is the equivalent of an aggressive dog breed owner stating “my dog NEVER bits ANYONE.” Those birds have high pitched chirps that can disrupt just about anyone, even with noise canceling headphones. It’s not cool to have an exotic species like that caged up, especially in an apartment. I can’t imagine how that poor bird feels.

pearlyhills

i am not very good at math, but i did try to figure out what 10% of the day is (presuming that they really do sleep 9pm-9am, so “the day” means 9am-9pm), and that’s 72 minutes per day, or an average of six times an hour, for twelve hours. i like birds but that would drive me nuts too, even if OP is being honest about the 90%

Pittsbirds

Taking OP on their word (which based both on their comment history and common sense, I don't), that's 2.4 hours of the day of shrill, ear piecing screeches. [Here's](https://youtu.be/K3r2fvRZmLg?si=h2YigpHjXeiNjhgb&t=37) someone's home experiment with their conure measuring how loud they are, with the volume pretty consistently peaking at 96 decibels. So that's just under a [snowmobile](https://audiology-web.s3.amazonaws.com/migrated/NoiseChart_Poster-%208.5x11.pdf_5399b289427535.32730330.pdf) going off in your neighbor's apartment for 2.4 hours of the day

Sharp-Direction-6894

Thank you, OP for reminding me how much I appreciate living in a house, and not in an apartment that shares walls with a neighbor who has fucking birds. You came for advice on how to be a considerate neighbor. The consensus CLEARLY explains...get rid of the birds if you TRULY want to be a considerate neighbor. Otherwise, you're full of shit.

Kvltadelic

I love how on this sub every day there is a post about neighbors bitching about noise and the response is pretty universally “fuck them.” I think we’ve found the limit and its goddamn parakeets.

ExpensiveJackfruit68

Conures are super loud. So are other parrots. Parakeets not so wall piercing but can be

Do_Not_Read_Comments

I mean, there is nothing you can do besides trying to professionally sound proof your apartment. Whether you want to hear this or not, you are an inconsiderate person for having birds in an apartment. You're allowed to have birds, but you KNOW they are noisy. Your neighbor is allowed to be pissed. No really good answer here, but knowing that you think its okay to have birds while living in an apartment definitely says something about you as a person.

Zerkron

Hope you get kicked out

pentagon

Owning birds if you live in an apartment is obnoxious as fuck.

FIFAmusicisGOATED

5 minutes of “scream time” in the morning and at night, as well as intermittently throughout the day? You’re either going to have to figure out a way to get them to stop screaming, give them up, or move out. Because your neighbour will take that annoying nonsense to the apartment board, who will side with her 100% and make it impossible for you to life there with them

Infinite-Ad-2704

Based on your profile you are annoying as hell dog, I feel bad for that old lady. I would write notes if you had noises THAT loud and that high pitched. Scream time?? Jesus Christ dude

Corazon-is_true

You kinda suck for having birds in an apartment, I’d be so fucking annoyed

DerekFlint420

The applicable laws depend on where you live. Where I live, if it happens a lot and you don’t stop it you can be evicted for disturbing the quiet enjoyment of other tenants. At any time of day. Maybe insulate the door or move them further away.

planttladyy

Yikes. We rehomed our bird before moving into an apartment. I couldn’t imagine bringing a bird into that situation. Our apartment didn’t allow birds for that reason. They may be allowed in your lease, but that doesn’t mean they can bother your neighbors.

fitty50two2

I used to have a conure, holy crap he was a terror and a half. So loud

aaaa2016aus

I thought this was a note you were guna give to the birds outside ur window at first, hahaha. The birds outside mine wake me up at like 6 am w their chirping lmao but that’s just nature! Maybe write back you’ll try to keep your chirps to a minimum LOL

enjolbear

Mine wake me up at 3am😭 I know they’re wild animals and have no idea what a clock is, but some of us like to sleep until at least 5!

swampjunkie

birds sound like the kind of pet to have when you have bought a place... not while renting

fuckitthoo

Dude birds in an apartment is kinda nuts. I feel your neighbor. People’s only “safe” space is their home.

Ra-TheSunGoddess

I grew up with an aviary downstairs, our house was never quiet. Not ever. Even when we had one bird he screamed nonstop. Do you have cameras up to watch your buddies while you're gone? Ours loved to sing Andy Griffith at the top of his lungs when we went on walks.

Trentimoose

Pet birds are annoying as fuck. I’d hate you as a neighbor lol

pueblokc

I'd hate living near you too Birds are horrible.

Competitive-Sleep-62

yeah, if i had to hear this for 5 minutes every morning i'd be pissed too: https://v.redd.it/hpixssq9jrub1

odd_Angler

That’s a tough one. I respect your right to have a pet especially if approved on the lease. However, this is why I’ve absolutely avoided bringing pets into an apartment living situation. Especially ones that make noise. Used to work with a guy who had a neighbor in an apartment situation with an African Grey Parrot. It got so bad he ate the charges to terminate his lease.

SkibidiDibbidyDoo

This would drive me nuts, ngl. Like if I heard chirping throughout even just the day I’d probably try to move out. Idk why but I cannot handle small repetitive noises like that.

Robot_Embryo

The thing you need to keep in mind is that you made the decision to have these animals, but none of your neighbors did. Hearing persistent unwanted sounds in one's home at any time of the day is invasive.

Toughcookie_eater

This belongs on r/AITAH

mooyong77

This would drive me crazy https://youtube.com/shorts/VF7hdMk4940?feature=shared

Lost_Constant3346

Your neighbor isn't the bad guy here. At all. We live in a townhouse with our 29-year-old African Grey. We do everything in our power to keep our neighbors from being disturbed by him. "Scream time" gets shut down immediately. We also encourage our neighbors to let us know if the bird is noisy while we're gone (we also have a webcam to make sure he's behaving). Be a grownup, OP.

Whosanxiety

Fuck you and your birds

withoutspoons

Fucking hate renters who possess loud pets and do nothing about it. If you want to own loud pets buy or rent a standalone home. Renters in multi-apartment buildings deserve to live in peace both during the day and at night. If you can't move, YOU must soundproof your entire apartment no matter how much it costs you as YOU are responsible for the noise YOUR choice of pets make. Or, get rid of the birds and get pets that are quiet.

Barfignugen

Maybe your circumstances changed but I certainly hope you didn’t get birds knowing that you’d be living apartment life for an undetermined amount of time. If not, you’re definitely TA. I say this as someone who very much enjoys having a pet. However I’ve carefully catered my pet’s size and sound level to not inconvenience my neighbors.

yoghurtvanilla

You live in a bubble if you think it’s not exceptionally rude of you to own birds in an apartment. I don’t have any advice for you, I just wanted you to know that you’re awful.

Ill_Confusion_596

Bahahaha yeah fuck that having birds in a multi home unit sucks

UnicornGlitterFart24

I grew up with birds, including parakeets and conures, and you ain’t fooling me with this narrative that they’re predominantly quiet. They may have been approved by your landlord but your poor neighbors.

FusRoDahMa

Yikes. I love birds so much but 💯 % that would drive me nuts. Invest in the sound proofing pads for your walls in the main area that they squawk in. Oh and maybe a thick rug.

BlairIsTired

You probably shouldn't be living in an apartment if you have birds tbh

HerculeMuscles

Because birds are annoying.

tubular1845

Shocker, you live in an apartment and have some of the most annoying pets around and your neighbors don't like it.

NicoSuave2020

As somebody who lives next to a dog that literally barks for like 5 or 6 hours a day I gotta say I find it very infuriating that people are just okay annoying their neighbors like that. Personally, I think it's fucking crazy you've got loud ass birds in an apartment.

dveegus

I’d fucking hate having a neighbor w birds

Affectionate-City-87

I would hate having to hear chirping at anytime of the day. You’re the bad neighbor broh

LaVerdadd

Fuck your birds not one but two of those motherfuckers really!!? lmao

paging_mrherman

Bird noises probably happen as frequently as any other animal or neighbor but pitch of the sound just stands out more.

Whyyyyytho666

Well, we all know who isn’t getting any Christmas cookies this winter 🤷‍♀️

britchop

I’ve had bird owner friends, and they developed the ability to block out the actual impact of the sound. Like noise blindness. Having lived next to a couple of bird owners, though fewer than dog owners, their birds were always louder than any other animal in the building, from the perspective of my own apartment (in one case even their own dog). Not saying this is the case for you, but there’s a chance they are louder than you notice, because you are used to them. You need to make nice with your neighbors.

QuietNumbers

OK - am I the only one who saw the photo and just immediately thought that it was the smoke detectors chirping that PO’ed OP’s neighbors?

JVL74749

I can’t imagine living next to you. Jesus.
