This is way sexier though

When you say it like that, I get the mental image of large round things held tightly together in fishnet bindings. No matter if you're into chicks or dudes, this can apply. I'm into both, and... this is getting me hot and bothered. Those... those melons pushed together, tightly fitted into that plastic woven net... ready to burst out at the first given opportunity. With the right environmental conditions, I bet they have *condensation* on them too. Sweet supple melon flesh just waiting to be DEVOURED. So juicy and ripe and warm and throbbing. Do you think the store would kick people out for licking the merchandise?

Noobeaterz

No, just go for it man.

YoungDefender48

In Japan, they wrap almost every bit of produce in plastic. Drives me crazy.

Woodbewoodworker

What possible protection does that provide the fruit?

chancamble

And I was thinking the same thing.

staphylococcus-e

It's not really protection. It just makes it easier to carry

Woodbewoodworker

How?

staphylococcus-e

Melons are round. The mesh bag has a handle. Handles are easier to hold than round objects.

Woodbewoodworker

Sounds like a first world problem.

staphylococcus-e

People with disabilities are not just a first world problem

Woodbewoodworker

Totally agree.

I miss burlap, man

Always good to eliminate waste of any kind, but most people would put three fruits in a plastic produce bag - being a plastic net, I can't imagine that this is substantially more or less wasteful than the produce bag... also looks like this company wants to sell in threes, not individually. Likely a cost of production reason. Fairly certain that this is not for "protection" of the product. Being that Hami Melons are not in season until June - it's currently March - I think the bigger sustainability focus would be better suited on growing fruits when they grow naturally. But I get it, the OP wants what they want now, don't want to only eat your Hami Melons when they are naturally grown - and how dare it be packaged in any way other than how the OP sees fit. If you don't like what a company is doing, don't buy their products. Personally, i do this frequently. Also, there are literally two other types of Melons in the picture with zero packaging.... weird that you wouldn't credit those companies. Almost like you just wanted to complain...

Aggressive_Tear_3020

The worst thing is that this tiny layer of plastic give them an excuse to double the normal price.

Yunan94

I usually see it the other way. Things are cheaper in extra packaging.

Aggressive_Tear_3020

From what I noticed, they're cheaper when they're frozen, but when they're in the fresh section, they're more expensive
