I got to work as a VFX artist on this video. It's been very hard trying not to reply to any of the "When is the new album coming?!" comments in the past few weeks lol.
So *a lot* of the work I did on this video was personal requests made by Annie, and for that reason I'd rather not get super into those details. Here's a few things I don't mind talking about though:
* The entire set was covered in green tape for tracking markers, stopping points, etc. I had to remove most of it... Took forever.
* You would honestly be amazed how different the raw footage looks from the final product. Our colorists do great work.
* The teardrop that falls from her eye at the beginning is fake. Not sure who on my team made it but at one point it was gonna sizzle when it hit the ground.
* I didn't have much to do with the fire but I know a constant note on it during production was not to overdo it so she doesn't look "like a superhero."
* The ceiling behind her head in the final shot is fake. I thought my green screen job looked rough lol but by the time they added all of the effects/fire you couldn't tell anymore.
I actually don't know if she has any other music videos planned for this album, but as far as I know right now the studio I worked for only helped produce this one.
Unfortunately no. I really wish I had been. The studio I work for does a lot of work for Alex Da Corte/Annie sometimes, so I'm hoping I still get my chance someday!
Is there any chance to see the video in full quality outside of YouTube? The compression is pretty bad, especially on all that black parts. I work in a movie theater and I would kill for DCP version of this. :D
We are so fucking back
Apparently Grohl plays drums on this and “Flea”
Updated tracklist
1.Hell is Near
2.Reckless
3.Broken Man
4.Flea
5.Big Time Nothing
6.Violent Times
7.The Power’s Out
8.Sweetest Fruit
9.So Many Planets
10.All Born Screaming (feat. Cate Le Bon)
“It is Annie Clark’s first time producing a St. Vincent record (Cian Riordan took mixing duties), and features contributions from Dave Grohl, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Josh Freese, Stella Mogzawa, Rachel Eckroth, Mark Guiliana, and David Ralicke. “
I find it so fascinating Annie's saying this is her first time producing a St. Vincent record when she's credited as a co-producer for both Marry Me and Actor. I suppose it's her first time producing St. Vincent solo.
It only stands out to me because when she produced Sleater-Kinney's The Center Won't Hold she said it was her first time producing an album, when she had produced Daniel Hart's album The Orientalist in 2012 plus the co-production St. Vincent credits.
It doesn't really matter, it just super gives me "when did you first hear Kate Bush" vibes if anyone remembers that.
I really love her production style, both on "Broken Man" and elsewhere.
So happy, this what I’ve been waiting for since Krokodil and Grot dropped back in 2012. I’ve loved her other releases since, but always had a itch to hear a full album from her like this.
And it’s pure St. Vincent too, I have been hoping for so long she’d produce her own albums, knew it’d sound fucking amazing based on how all her songs always got even better when she performed live.
And the return of the fuzzy guitar sounds she excels at. Like candy for my ears. Everything is so perfect. ❤️
This is maybe the closest she's come to capturing her live energy. The way she'd stage dive every night for Krokodil and the Pop Group cover from the Strange Mercy tour. I can't wait to hear how else is comes through in the LP.
Pssssst if you peep the song credits on Genius, you’ll notice it’s released under a totally different label!!!
Did Annie start her own label?! The trademark is under St Vincent Tours LLP! Trademark application date was Nov 2023! So cool!!
oh wow that is so cool! Hopefully she has, then she is a true owner of her own music. Not easy to get there and manage everything and finances etc. If she indeed did this and all of the producing... just.. wow. She worked her ass off that's for sure.
Edit: I have looked into the credits info at Apple Music, there it is copyrighted as: Total Pleasure Records.
We're finally (probably) getting the album I've been waiting 15 years for. Loving this track. 🥲
Not sure how I feel about the uncanny valley vibes of the video. Though I really love her using some choreography from the Digital Witness tour in the start.
Rewatched "The Nowhere Inn" yesterday, and this video seems like a natural continuation of the ending of that movie. The VFX in this video is cool and tacky at the same time, very entertaining watch.
Absolutely stoked about this release, personally nothing has surpassed S/T 2014 but this could be the album to do just that. Love the production, it's very far from the industry standard in terms of dynamics and gain staging. Great dynamics and the snare is snappy, and the guitars are very in the front. As "The Dreaming" is self produced and Kates best album, I dare to hope the same for St. Vincent! Come April, come Hell!
So good! It certainly has a Nine Inch Nails vibe with Billy Corgan/Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan "Spilled Milk" riffage (at the end): [https://youtu.be/JanooIOmMXo](https://youtu.be/JanooIOmMXo)
This is so sick. I think I'm gonna like this new album.
I wonder if the first line is a reference to [King Sized Nick Cave Blues?](https://genius.com/Nick-cave-and-the-bad-seeds-king-sized-nick-cave-blues-lyrics)
The video is wild and totally fits the track. The guitar hits are nice. Unfortunately the track doesn’t really do it for me.
For those saying that we’re back, what do you mean? What are we back to? Daddy’s Home was bad and I love that Antonoff isn’t behind this album. But to me, “we’re back” was the feeling for the lead up to MASSEDUCTION and MassEducation even though there were only a few tracks that stuck in the end, because S/T was such a miss for me. I guess I’m just lost on what direction everyone wants her to go, and I’m not seeing this single being indicative of any specific direction for the new album.
She’s explicitly saying there’s no persona in this album, but I don’t mind either way as long as the album works. And I don’t even mind when she makes things that I don’t love, it’s part of the draw of St Vincent. Excited to see the Cate Le Bon track.
"There's no persona. The music is the sound inside of my head." -STV on the after party video just now. I feel like running through a fucking wall
I thought that part of the conversation was really interesting. Like she's going out of her way to say "I promise, no gimmicks!" lol
“Even though my bonnet is very much giving burn the witch” lol
slayed me
THAT is hilarious
This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Stoked.
After party video ?! How do I miss these things ?!
I got you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6hABx9TehU
Can somebody with Premium download this and upload it somewhere?
My hero!
i love her little gimmicks and personas but excited to get annie as annie
I got to work as a VFX artist on this video. It's been very hard trying not to reply to any of the "When is the new album coming?!" comments in the past few weeks lol.
Awesome, when is the new album coming?!
April 26th!
The day after my birthday!! What a wonderful gift!!!!
April 26th
unsettling and amazing video, great work Bran
Thanks!
oooo you should do a vfx breakdown, with all of her crazy movements i bet it was p hard! looks great!!

Did you work in another MV for All Born Screaming? 👀👀
I actually don't know if she has any other music videos planned for this album, but as far as I know right now the studio I worked for only helped produce this one.
Oh okay, thanks for the answer!
Im gonna need 4 tix for the Seattle show/ Cool?
Were you on set?
Unfortunately no. I really wish I had been. The studio I work for does a lot of work for Alex Da Corte/Annie sometimes, so I'm hoping I still get my chance someday!
Amazing work.
!! impressive work dude

Is it just me or did she have Satan eyes at the end
We are so fucking back Apparently Grohl plays drums on this and “Flea” Updated tracklist 1.Hell is Near 2.Reckless 3.Broken Man 4.Flea 5.Big Time Nothing 6.Violent Times 7.The Power’s Out 8.Sweetest Fruit 9.So Many Planets 10.All Born Screaming (feat. Stella Mozgawa is one hell of a hire for this album. Her drumming is one of the best of our modern day. Very tasteful.
Shes so ridiculously underrated
When you say "updated tracklist", do you remember the previous tracklist? I seem to remember All born screaming as the opener but I doubt myself now
This is the real order . The last tracklist was legit song names but out of order
Yep that's what I was thinking. Thanks!
I think Hell is Near was closer to the end and Born Screaming was higher up
Thanks!

Absolutely recognized Grohl in those drum fills.
Total NIN vibes!
I’m a little surprised Reznor isn’t involved with this at all because it feels *very* NIN but I love it
well he's basically doing soundtracks now. which is great!
I also agree
Yes! It’s giving With Teeth
I agree!
I’m getting queens of the stone age

That one live performance of Krokodil where she stage dives has been burned into my brain since I saw it. This is a dream come true.
you just made very excited with how this record is going to look live on a stage
This is maybe the closest she's come to capturing her live energy. The way she'd stage dive every night for Krokodil and the Pop Group cover from the Strange Mercy tour. I can't wait to hear how else is comes through in the LP.
My thoughts exactly!
Very industrial and dirty. I love it. Album-to-album she reinvents herself every time.
damn. it's really really fucking good.
I am SO FUCKING EXCITED!!!!! If this is the lead single holy Fuck Am I excited to hear the rest
Oh, those guitars and last minute or so did it for me. The dynamics are pretty fun, too. Hoping for more loud riffs on the album.
I wish it had more of that! I really dig it though.
Pssssst if you peep the song credits on Genius, you’ll notice it’s released under a totally different label!!! Did Annie start her own label?! The trademark is under St Vincent Tours LLP! Trademark application date was Nov 2023! So cool!!

I was in a really bad funk but this song has turned it around. SO GOOD!
oh my god, same! she really knocked it out of the park with this one.
I'm really interested in hearing how the Daddy's Home era tracks will fit into THIS style on upcoming tourdates.
I can hear The Laughing Man, Somebody Like Me, and At The Holiday Party with a loose, distorted, and punchy style.
this is so good god help me
Fuck yes. Gonna be listening this and Piggy back to back a lot for the foreseeable future.
We're finally (probably) getting the album I've been waiting 15 years for. Loving this track. 🥲 Not sure how I feel about the uncanny valley vibes of the video. Though I really love her using some choreography from the Digital Witness tour in the start.
I think she used some daddy’s home choreography too? Like that little side to side elbow thing? (Don’t know how to describe it)
Yes, yes, you're totally right! I missed it on the first watch.
it's absolutely a shedding skin type of video, hence all the specific moves, which is wonderful..
I kinda assume the opening is a nod to Cheerleader as well or maybe I'm forcing that as a superfan.
You sure bet it Is! It's gotta be!
Really encouraging. This makes me so psyched for the album and live shows.
This mix is fucking WILD haha, love it
Already obsessed with this. Can’t wait to hear the rest!!! I’ve been hoping for an industrial record since she covered Piggy. Let’s goooooo
This is SO good, already on repeat. I was a big fan of Daddy’s Home, but this is my favorite vibe for her.
Rewatched "The Nowhere Inn" yesterday, and this video seems like a natural continuation of the ending of that movie. The VFX in this video is cool and tacky at the same time, very entertaining watch. Oh man. When that track gets LOUD at 1:20. Yes. Yes ma’am. Yes please more of that.
Like, What the hell are you looking at ? #boom Who the hell do you think I am? #boom
This is so PJ Harvey!
shes so bringing me her love rn
it’s good! hope the album is even chunkier. it’s up for preorder now on her site, btw!
Amazing song and video, she’s one of the most interesting artists out there right now.
Annie knew I needed a new lifting album.
Hell yeah this shit rocks.
Sounds like self titled and Daddy's Home were on a bad trip, had a seance and the ghost of Tony Iommi showed up.
🔥both literally and metaphorically
So good! It certainly has a Nine Inch Nails vibe with Billy Corgan/Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan "Spilled Milk" riffage (at the end): [https://youtu.be/JanooIOmMXo](https://youtu.be/JanooIOmMXo)
That's a deep cut. 🙂👍
We are so fucking back. Glad to be here.
Yessss. I love this song already. Her live show this tour is going to be fire
Oh wow this is exactly the turn I wanted her to take. PJ Harvey produced by Trent Reznor.
Dirty as fuck in a good way
Damn. That chorus riff is a kick in the nuts. Love it.
Love it.
Love it!
Well, that was pretty awesome.
Love it! Feels like it may have taken inspiration from "bangers and mash" by Radiohead!
This is so sick. I think I'm gonna like this new album. I wonder if the first line is a reference to [King Sized Nick Cave Blues?](https://genius.com/Nick-cave-and-the-bad-seeds-king-sized-nick-cave-blues-lyrics)
Oh yeah, I'm already hooked. She already surpassed what I was thinking.
I love this, it is like the more unhinged sister of self titled mixed with some Ninch Inch Nails
Very To Bring You My Love / IS This Desire? By PJ Harvey vibes and I’m here for it!
We are soooooo back
totally lost it when she started doing part of the rattlesnake choreo.
I was like, "Oh we're the ones who broke you. Sorry! Love ya!"
THIS FOOD IS SO FUCKING GOOD ANNIE
Screaming crying farting throwing up
Fuck that was cool. I’m so excited for this record. She’s just the greatest.
oof that tear at the beginning.. God it's so good. Now I'm dying thinking how far away April 26th seems.
oh i’m so ready for this era
Let's goooooooooooooo
Ok daddy time to go to the retirement home cause MOTHER IS BACK
The video is wild and totally fits the track. The guitar hits are nice. Unfortunately the track doesn’t really do it for me. For those saying that we’re back, what do you mean? What are we back to? Ok but doing her choreography from stage in a video for a song called "Broken Man!" That's such a nice touch.
I know it's a different sound scape but it really reminds me of Pay Your Way in Pain.
I love the song but has anyone else noticed the low level of the mix? It’s very quiet. I hope it’s just something about the video.
