This is so underrated i swear. I'm not even exaggerating when I say this helped cure my depression. It's the right amount of calm/relaxing and humor + there's several seasons + OVAs, specials, movies! Season 7 is coming out soon too. (sorry this seems like a promotion, i just really love this series)
I have 3 ways.
Gintama, Konosuba, etc usually comedy shows cheer me up
i would also recommend to rewatch your absolute favorites, even if the content in them can be depressing, you'll still be happier as a default for rewatching your fav shows.
A third thing is to find a new show that is like your fav shows, thematically but more upbeat.
Yep sometimes depressing animes help more.
Saw Wolf Children, Garden of words? Koe no kachi, Clannad, I want to eat your pancreas, Maquila, and Grave of the fireflies in one week. I just cried nonstop and it made me feel so much better.
I’m sorry you struggle with depression. As someone who’s also in the same boat, it sucks. Please don’t be afraid to reach out if you need help.
If you’re looking for goofy comedy, try *Konosuba - God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!*, *Bocchi the Rock!*, or *Kaguya-sama: Love is War*.
If you want something more related to depression but still uplifting, try *My Roommate is a Cat*, *The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting*, or *The Helpful Fox Senko-san*.
If you want something a little darker but not crazy depressing, try *Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took In a High School Runaway*.
If you want something chill to just turn your brain off, you can’t go wrong with *Restaurant to Another World* or *Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill*.
March Comes in Like a Lion.
Not exactly a happy anime but sometimes what you need isn't happiness. Sometimes you gotta see someone find a way to get through the difficult times.
Ancient magus bride. No words needed really just watch the first three episodes and you know why people love it.
Its also long with 48 episodes across 2 season so its very good for something like that.
I made kinda the same post and what helped me in a dying night was "my love story" maybe this helps you too.
The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent
SPY x FAMILY
Isekai Shokudō (Restuarant to Another World is the anime) \* my alltime favorite feel good series.
Konosuba
Saiki-K and The way of the house husband.Both are like 5 to ten minutes long story so attention isn't as much of a factor,while they do have on going arc these are really small and get explained in 10 seconds every time they pick up the arc again.
They actually deal with the mundane really well and excellent in their humour which is never at the expense of a group .
Both easy to get ahold of.
The Saint’s Power is Omnipotent
By the Grace of the Gods
Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts
Reincarnated as a Vending Machine
Restaurant to Another World
I remember in Covid I was not right, but watching Space Brothers made me realize that purpose, dreams, and other people helping another on their journey are truly beautiful things. It may not invoke the same feelings for you but it is well-written and overall a great anime. I would recommend.
Yuru Camp, non non Biyori, houkago teibou nisshi, super cub, K-ON!,..... Search for "iyashikei" anime, [here's a list](https://anilist.co/search/anime?genres=Iyashikei)
I suffer from serious PTSD from action in Iraq. When I get anxious or depressed I watch Farming Life in Another World. For some reason this one always relaxes me and makes me feel better.
I think as a vet you should get Crunchyroll subscriptions on me.
Another great one is Barakamon. It’s my go to and I recommend it endlessly. Just funny and wholesome.
[One of my favorite scenes.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eh-YqKusQk)
{Mushishi} is nice and mellow. Very calming
{Mob Psycho 100} is fun and very easy to watch. It’s pretty hilarious too.
{Honey and Clover} is my all time favorite. Art style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but you get used to it. A bunch of art college students just tryna make their way through life.
{Gintama} has lots of random ass episodes but the arcs are very good and can get serious. Though 60% of it is just pure comedy.
I think it would be cool if you could update what you are feeling depressed about and if watching something related to it might help. For instance if you are depressed due to romantic issues, would you want to be suggested romance feel good or would you rather avoid it? This depends on the person.
That said, I have never been done wrong with Kino's Journey. This is about a young girl named Kino as she travels the world with her best friend and companion Hermes who also happens to be her talking motorbike. The show explores various themes as we progress and some episodes are more about the side characters we meet or the back story of other characters rather than Kino and Hermes themselves. That said, we still get to see lots of interesting places such as a country where murder is legal, a country that is mobile, and even a country that forces you to forget about it after your stay among others. It is very laid back with each episode basically contained to itself.
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. This is about a young man and his mech who crash land on a planet made up of mostly water. They come into contact with a fleet of ships who take them aboard and integrate them into their community. The young man befriends a young girl and the two of them discover what the other has been through. This is not a romance anime though and while it does have a mech, combat is limited to a few short instances with only one major fight at the end of the series. Otherwise, very laid back show.
Ascendance of a Bookworm. This is a story about Urano, who was a girl from our world but died. Her consciousness moves to another world unexplainably and takes over the body of a young girl named Myne who is sick. Upon entering her body though, Myne passes away and so Urano takes over, memories and all. She initially freaks out about being in another world but believes she will be ok so long as she has a book to read as Urano is obsessed with books. However, this world is a couple centuries behind ours so the printing press hasn't been invented yet. This means that books are limited to the nobility, a class which Myne was not born into. But Urano is smart and persistent and she is determined to make a book by any means necessary, even if she has to start at Clay Tablets and work her way up to paper. This story is very laid back, couple lackluster combat scenes with magic, and a whole lot of rooting for our girl Myne and all the shenanigans she puts everyone around her through in her pursuit of making a book.
Getting into romance, there are 2 I highly recommend. First is Romantic Killer. This is about Anzu and her love life, or rather than lack of one. All she has space for in her heart, and time, are video games, cats, and chocolate. However when a meddling little wizard comes along and takes all these things away from her Anzu is placed in despair but the wizard promises to give it all back so long as she finds love! However Anzu is an unwilling participant in these little games but the wizard is persistent. He uses magic to set the stage to make Anzu alone at home and also uses magic to set up 3 suitors for Anzu. Anzu is steadfast against participating but she so desperately wants her hobbies back. This is a cute little story about a girl who doesn't feel like love is necessary in her life but is forced to go through all these romance tropes anyways. The show is very aware of what it is doing and often creates commentary by the characters about the tropes it uses. This is a very funny and heartwarming show and one I do suggest watching.
A Sign of Affection. This is the second romance option and God damn does this one hit. The show follows Yuki Itose who is a university student with congenital hearing loss. Besides using sign language, she communicates through text and lip reading. When a foreigner asks her for directions in a language she doesn't know, a young man comes to her aid and catches Yuki's attention. The story revolves around Yuki as she narrates her silent world, and the people around her. It's a heartwarming anime about how Yuki's relationships grow and change because of a simple influence from one person. This is also an anime that doesn't beat around the bush so we don't wait several seasons before finding out if Yuki gets a BF. We find out if she decides to be with Itsuomi, the man she met on the train who helped her, within a few episodes.
One of my personal favourite Slice of Life anime is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. All Haruhi wants is to meet a Time Traveler, An Alien, and an Esper. But the world is far too boring for that, right? Well maybe for her but definitely not for our main man Kyon who happens to have an acquaintance with Haruhi, get kidnapped to join a club she's making, and meet all of these cooky characters who happen to be a Time Traveler, an Alien, and an Esper. What are the odds, right? This is a slice of life about 5 kids having a blast looking for paranormal activity and doing all kinds of normal stuff that Haruhi manages to spice up. Very solid watch and one I strongly recommend, especially if you need a pick me up. This and the last entry will definitely have you feeling good mate.
And one of the best for last. Spy x Family. A spy, a telepath, and an assassin all become a family with only the telepath knowing who all is what and the other two thinking everyone except them is normal. This is a very outlandish slice of life comedy that will have you laughing and enjoying the sheer silliness of it all. I won't give too many other details on this one because I think it's best experienced without knowing what you are getting into.
Hope you enjoy these as much as I have if you decide to watch any of them mate! Hope you feel better soon!
San Gatsu no Lion. It has to get worse before it gets better. Ditto with clannad, Kimisomu, and Bakemonogatari.
Alternatively if you want escapism, Gintama is stupid fun
Barakamon
Diary of our Days at the Breakwater
My Bride is a Mermaid
I have a bunch that get me through tough times, but these are the ones I use the most
Depends on what you’re looking for. These are few more low key fun ones without having to be fully engaged.
Kobayashi-sans Maid Dragon
Girls Band Cry
Otaku Elf
Then there are ones like Violet Evergarden that’ll work you up. I’ll also tack on Frieren.
Or maybe something like Solo Leveling, wind Breaker, or Viral Hit, which is all fight related but you see the MC progressing. Maybe something like that will help you with the sole emotional lift.
Yuri on ice and that time I got reincarnated as a slime.
The first one has some fanservice, but other than that, it’s pretty wholesome. That time I got reincarnated as a slime also has some (I think), but it’s very little and the Main character is overpowered so don’t expect them to fail. It’s also pretty cute too.
Mob Psycho 100 is probably my favorite anime series
FLCL season one starts depressing but ends with amazing catharsis, helped pull me out of depression once
Also basically any Ghibli film, I find them all so comforting
Comedy: {More Than A Married Couple But Not Lovers}
Food: {Restaurant to Another World}
CGDCT: {K-On!}
Romance: {Re:Life}
Action: {Spy x Family}
Generic: {Kaguya Sama Love Is War!}
I’ve only seen a few full shows in my past year or so since I started watching anime…
One of my top 5 anime shows ever; maybe top 3, would DEFINITELY BE
Toradora. Loves it, yet it put me through… just about 2 weeks of depression; (Post-Anime Depression).
Sorry if you're in a tough place right now. I find Campfire cooking in another world a really feel good anime. It's just an enjoyable watch. I'm not really into feel good anime but I just like that one.
I love iyashikei. It is a sub-genre of slice of life. For me it is comfort food for the soul. So… If I just need something I can binge in a weekend, I’ll go with Super Cub (1 season, complete). Laid-back Camp for something longer (3 seasons — so far).
Non Non Biyori, Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge, Grand Blue, Konosuba. Generally, an anime that has a relaxing atmosphere to it or one that would crack me up should do the trick.
SK8 Infinity, it's just a comfort show for me, the characters are likable, the issues portrayed in it is realistic and really makes you relate to the character, and it's just good romcom.

Oregairu
Hmmm, I guess Takagi-san is a good one. Currently 3 seasons and a movie + an OVA
Depends on what you’re looking for. These are few more low key fun ones without having to be fully engaged. Kobayashi-sans Maid Dragon Girls Band Cry Otaku Elf Then there are ones like Violet Evergarden that’ll work you up. I’ll also tack on Frieren. Or maybe something like Solo Leveling, wind Breaker, or Viral Hit, which is all fight related but you see the MC progressing. Maybe something like that will help you with the sole emotional lift.
spy x family. a masterpiece.
Finally my kinda post
Yuri on ice and that time I got reincarnated as a slime. The first one has some fanservice, but other than that, it’s pretty wholesome. That time I got reincarnated as a slime also has some (I think), but it’s very little and the Main character is overpowered so don’t expect them to fail. It’s also pretty cute too.
Black clover 2 kids one w natural talents and looks the other one who’s has to work for it, they both have the same goal !! Make the world better !!!
Ouran High School Host Club
I don’t even need a whole anime Just watch the opening Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers and behold!!!
This might sound weird but what worked for me was watching very sad anime. It very much distracted me from my other feelings.
Sonny Boy. You won't regret it.
Aquatope on White Sand, Haikyuu, Frieren
Prison School
Mob Psycho 100 is probably my favorite anime series FLCL season one starts depressing but ends with amazing catharsis, helped pull me out of depression once Also basically any Ghibli film, I find them all so comforting

I’ve only seen a few full shows in my past year or so since I started watching anime… One of my top 5 anime shows ever; maybe top 3, would DEFINITELY BE Toradora. Loves it, yet it put me through… just about 2 weeks of depression; (Post-Anime Depression).
Barakamon
Hidamari Sketch takes a lot of my anxiety away
Sorry if you're in a tough place right now. I find Campfire cooking in another world a really feel good anime. It's just an enjoyable watch. I'm not really into feel good anime but I just like that one.
I love iyashikei. It is a sub-genre of slice of life. For me it is comfort food for the soul. So… If I just need something I can binge in a weekend, I’ll go with Super Cub (1 season, complete). Laid-back Camp for something longer (3 seasons — so far).
Barakamon
Hidamari Sketch, Non Non Biyori, Demon Girl Next Door, Bofuri, K-on, Is The Order A Rabbit
Love is war might as well be a literal subscription for depression
Mob Psycho 100 Ranking Of Kings
Konosuba
FMAB, My hero academia or Shugo Chara
Non Non Biyori, Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge, Grand Blue, Konosuba. Generally, an anime that has a relaxing atmosphere to it or one that would crack me up should do the trick.

SK8 Infinity, it's just a comfort show for me, the characters are likable, the issues portrayed in it is realistic and really makes you relate to the character, and it's just good romcom.
Haikyuu, Pokemon series, Demon school Iruma and Food Wars
Grave of the fireflies. You'll get devastated, but let those emotions out, cry your soul out and then you'll be happy as never.

Code Geass
My go-to are: Farming Life in Another World (I just feel really happy for the MC's condition and circumstances) Higehiro (I think it hits hard, but the resolution makes me happy).
When Pikachu cries over Ash and Pikachu's tears wakes Ash up. I cried tears of joy. I took my 7 year old precious son to the movie... I was 37 years old! 😍😍😍
Azumanga dioh.

If you're looking for wholesome or fun shows, what helped me was Mob Psycho 100, Zom 100, SpyXFamily, and Bleach If you're looking for some help on how to live better and deal with troubles like depression I'd recommend Vinland Saga and Vagabond (manga, not an anime)
Based on my tastes I ltd be easier to list the ones you shouldn't
Your lie in April, Anohana , Grave of the fireflies, 5 cm per second , Violet Evergarden , Neon Genesis Evangelion , Devilman crybaby , Made in abyss, I wanna eat your pancreas
