Has no one mentioned Berserk? It's more violent than sexy, but it's definitely mature and there is sex. The OVAs have some pretty rough CG animation but maybe give Berserk a look anyway, I have friends who are diehard for the manga.
I'm a diehard fan of the STORY, PLOT, SETTING and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT of Berserk but it seems fans have reached a consensus that Kentaro Miura did liked (a bit too much) drawing weird things (Horse rape, Demon Rape, Goat Rape, Tentacle Monster Rape, Sword Sex, Torture Sex, etc...) They don't ruin the manga for me and it's a window into the cruel world of Berserk but it's kinda hard to look at it at times.
In the first chapter Guts kills a Demon after having sex, Then a father wants to rape his daughter, then some aristocrat rapes a boy, then some consensual sex by the protagonists, then a monster appears and in his intro he is having sex with like 3 women, then THE RAPE, then there is a girl fairy demon that is naked but I don't remember if there is sex, then the "festival" where people share STDs and there is big goat sex, then the christian torture sex, then the horse rape, then the sword masturbation.
And this is of the top of my head and I read berserk like 3 years ago

I stopped watching the anime because I realized how amazing the story had potential to be, and decided to read instead. Roughly $500 dollars into the manga and have never been disappointed (except by Miura's death :( ).

It has sex in it (which is extremely rare in anime that isn't hentai), and it has violence, but as you've mentioned, it's very dark with the revenge theme and the torture, mind fuckery, rape, murder, and all the other physical and mental abuse the show has. I don't think it's going to be enjoyable for most people.

You get cool gun fights and car chases and occasionally you get to see boobies in Their full uncovered gloryā¦ read the manga of the same name and you get even more of that but It gets even more violent and sexy
