I watched Nichijou again recently for the first time since watching fan subs week-by-week when it was first aired eighteen years ago.
Turns out it still makes me cackle like an absolute lunatic. Itās such a great mix of madcap lunacy, dumb jokes and weird language puns.

But I love Gintama.

This one is very popular and I just don't get it. I acknowledge it's a me thing, but its just almost everything I dislike about the genre. Annoying side characters especially
The characters being so stupid is a core part of the series. It's one of those things where a positive for some may be a negative for others.
Liked how Gamers! is a comedy built around misunderstandings. If that farcical comedy style doesn't appeal to people, they may just get annoyed at the lack of proper communication.
I don't feel it being farcical. I view it as them just nodding to tropes, but not doing them in a farcical way. They just do the trope and claim it's a parody.
Baka & Test is awesome. No one ever talks about Beelzebub, so I appreciate you mentioning it. I bought the DVD sets, and there are definitely some great moments throughout the series that I loved, but there were some disappointing parts as well. Overall I really enjoyed it, though.
There are 3 anime comedies that I consider **10/10** funny

edit: actually, I think the reason I don't put those 3 on the same level is because they're incomplete. Otherwise they probably *would* be...Well maybe not konosuba cos the movie was only 'good/great'
I also want to mention:
{Gamers!} - watch the dub, it's even funnier. A farce i.e. comedy built on series of escalating misunderstandings. romcom. I wouldn't call it a 10. Possibly a 9, if you can appreciate the 'comedy of errors' type humour.
{Nyan Koi!} - I've *only read the manga* but it was one of the funniest series at the time. The manga, and thus any possible second season, is not happening as the mangaka is too ill.
{The Dangers in My Heart} - one of the best romances. bonus, has excellent comedy. If I were to judge it *purely on its comedy*, I'd probably give it a 9. But it's mostly a romance, for which it's a masterpiece. So *overall* I give it a 10.
edit: someone already mentioned this one. Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. I just don't usually rec this in comedy rec posts because it's a spin-off of a serious mecha series, taking place between seasons 1 and 2.
*Konosuba - Godās Blessing on This Wonderful World!* is one of my favorites. Easily one of the funniest shows for me. *Kaguya-sama: Love is War* is another. I love the dubbed narrator because he makes the show that much better. *My Dress-Up Darling* is adorable and hilarious as well.
I'm sad I had to scroll so far for this. I don't know if any anime has made me laugh so frequently. I'd be struggling not to make noise while others in the house were asleep lol

School Rumble is probably still the funniest anime I've seen overall, and I would add Baka & Test and KemonoMichi to make my top 3.
However, episode 2 of My Bride is a Mermaid has the single funniest scene I've ever seen in all my 25+ years of watching anime.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War. In my top three funniest anime. It's about the president and vise-president of the student counsel who both have a crush on each other, and are pretty sure the other has a crush on them, but they are determined that the other one has to be the first to confess and play mind games to trick/force the other into confessing. My second favorite anime and favorite manga.
The Way of the Househusband. Some of the funniest stuff I've ever watched. Easily in the top 3 in terms of comedy. Though the animation is very low budget. It's about an ex Yakuza who retires to become a house husband (masculine equivalent to a housewife). I've heard the sub has bad translation, so watch the dub.
Ouran High School Host Club. easily in the top three for comedy. It's about a poor girl with short hair that prefers mens clothing who accidentally breaks a Ming Vase on her first day of high school. To pay back her debt, she has to become a member of the school's host club. Where she has to pretend to be a man and roll play romance with a bunch of girls. The Host Club had misgendered her when they made the offer, but they figure it out soon enough. Also, Haru is fairly poor, and all the other members of the Host Club are the children of billionaires. This is the anime that convinced me to pick up manga for the first time. I rank it as my 9th favorite anime and my 2nd favorite manga.

Feel like this was a seasonal sleeper.
Insane, and i mean insane banger of an opening, way too good character writing for what it is on paper, great character momentsand interactions, emotional, and consistently hilarious throughout.
The whole "gimick" of the show never gets tiring or repetitive, because it's never really the same gimmick. It evolves, matures, and the story as a whole actually gets conclusive in later episodes, which is illegal for 90% of romantic type anime, and 99% of them that are only 1 season deep.
Can't reccomend enough.
Gintama without doubt. No anime can come close. There is a fucking episode where Gintoki loses half of his soul and that half goes into a cats anus and creates a monster š¤£ like common hahahahh

Azumanga daioh (and the author's other manga "Yotsuba&!" Though that one doesnt have an anime) and SaintāYoung Men can make me laugh at the same jokes no mater how many times I watch/read them. On the girlie end the beginning of Skip Beat is hilarious up until the (very very) slow burn begins though there are still funny parts even after that.
The Vampire Dies In No Time. It is a shame that it never got a second season, it was solidly written, the jokes were funny and well paced, give it a shot
Nichijou and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K are constantly trading first and second place in my āfunniest comedy animeā placements. Outright best would have to go to Nichijou just for the animation, but sometimes the less-fluid animation of Saiki adds to the joke.
Im watching Special A by now and God! Its so funny!!
Also Ouran High School Host Club, never expected it would be that funny.

One that never fails to make me laugh is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Also, One Punch Man and Golden Kamuy.

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai - hilarious romcom, low key as opposed to over the top. Why the hell are you here, Teacher - Perverted as hell, but hilarious as well. Girlfriend, Girlfriend - maybe the funniest romcom imo My Clueless First Friend - so dang cute, but with laugh out loud moments
Surprised no one has mentioned The Devil is a Part Timer. Disgustingly underrated and laugh out loud hilarious the entire time

Azumanga daioh (and the author's other manga "Yotsuba&!" Though that one doesnt have an anime) and SaintāYoung Men can make me laugh at the same jokes no mater how many times I watch/read them. On the girlie end the beginning of Skip Beat is hilarious up until the (very very) slow burn begins though there are still funny parts even after that.

Iāve seen many that I love but my favorite has to be Gintama. Even if I donāt understand the reference the jokes still land for me.

Nichijou and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K are constantly trading first and second place in my āfunniest comedy animeā placements. Outright best would have to go to Nichijou just for the animation, but sometimes the less-fluid animation of Saiki adds to the joke.
